Congrats!!!👍

So, now the big question is: will those accepted attend or choose elsewhere?? hmmm.....😕

trust me, i have A LOT of pressure on my shoulders and a deposit down at another touro...
my parents think nyc is crime-ridden (yea, they're stuck in the 70s), cold, and expensive (well...yea!).
my heart says, nyc and urban medicine...
my brain says, but what if you want to stay in CA in the long run? (and heck, it'd be cheaper! though i figure not having a car will save me at least $15K not to mention all my vehicular follies lately)...
Man...Oh man......
All I know is, I'm happy:laugh: that I can choose...It will be a long night!
New thread...Choices thread.

PS: HAVE faith, they will not be numbers mongers for those who haven't gotten the secondary yet...They WILL give you consideration for accomplishments. Promise. Also, for whoever had the female DO and Polish Phd, they are really cool (just seem tough at first during the conversation, but they're both sweet)...

Go with your heart. Whatever you choose will be right. That is a hard decision, though. CA and NY are both great places to go to school and for residency.

Now see, didn't I tell you that you would get accepted! 😛

Congrats guys.
I was also accepted.👍

How do you feel about a new school vs an established school?
pros & cons.

i'm a big touro gangsta it appears.
they like me i like them, it works out ;-)
i have faith they will give you serious consideration😎

I got accepted today too! HOLLA!! 5 days after my interview ... That's a pretty quick turn-around. This is my first med school acceptance as well so I am SO HAPPY!

I'm still waiting on the results of my interview with Drexel (going on week 9 at this point), but I REALLY want to be in NYC and Touro needs to know soon, so I'm 90% sure I'll be going there.

CONGRATS to everyone else who got in. I hope this is as glorious a moment for you as it is for me!

Wow! So, was anyone rejected yet?? They are filling up that class fast.

How long did it take for you guys to get an interview invitation after being complete?

Secondaries sent in Jan 1st. Received interview email Jan 24. REceived email confirmation of interview Jan 30 for Feb 14 interview.

wow :wow::wow::wow:that was really fast, congratulations:clap: 🙂 👍 to all who got accepted.
I sure hope they get back to me that quickly, I am interviewing this week, and I really want to go to this school. well it is definetly going to be interesting to see how you guys decide where to go.

How did you guys find out about your acceptance, Phone call? e-mail? snail mail?

Congrats to all accepted!!I can say this much, if accepted by Tourocom I will definetely leave LA and head for the City.

Pros:
1. A school in the heart of a great urban environment dedicated to working with underserved populations.👍
2. Being the FIRST class of the school(aka. pioneer or guinea pig-take ur pick)with the potential to mold the school in a particular direction.
3. Brand new facilities!!Not having to rub your skin on years and years of accumulated sweat and dead skin cells on the OMM lab tables.
4. Having a HUGE population base to treat--with all types of patients and conditions, im sure clinically there will rarely be a dull moment.
5. Living in one of the greatest cities in the world😍

Cons:
1. Living in the Y for a year! (Actually I have done it in the past, and it really isnt that bad--you get very close with your fellow Y ers)
2. Cost of living NYC(?) Well LA isnt exactly cheapo living either
3. First class of school--no matter how nice being a 'pioneer' sounds, pioneers frequently ended up dead and discarded as they attempted to blaze the trails--aka guinea pigs.

Thats all for now--will fill in as I am inspired--feel free to add to the list.

As for me, barring failure of getting IN to the school, I do hope to soon be TOUROCOM class of 2011.

Congrats to all accepted!
I wonder if anybody knows if it is going to be possible to defer for a year in case you are accepted?

Just got accepted also!!! Congrats to everyone.

exactly whats going on in my head right now.

Tuition, location, size of the class, close to home (for me), new facilities.. they all seem too good but the true weighing factor is our future..
what does pioneer really mean for us?
Will the professors teach well for us to pass the comlex?
residency placements?

either way.. Congrats to everyone!

To those who are accepted when did you interview. I interviewed on the 31st and I havent heard from them. Starting to get worried that Im rejected.

you know that they are really backed up w/ paperwork. give them few more days. Perhaps they are still making their decision! Remember unless you have a rejection letter in your hand, there is still hope!

wish you luck.

Can you guys that got interviewed and/or accepted post your stats please? 😀 Touro doesn't seem to like me 🙁

wow congrats you guys who got an acceptance. Which almost makes me wonder, anyone who got interviewed get a rejection letter? This is very good stats...whats that like 7/7 interviewed and accepted. I can't wait to hear from them!! An interview that is 😳

no, all of us that interviewed haven't gotten an acceptance yet. i think the people that haven't heard yet are still waiting...and hoping!

Somath,

I just got your message upon my return home. It's a very great experience and I am definitely having second thoughts about where to go now... The interview day is great and they provide you with breakfast and lunch. Enjoy yourself and good luck! :luck:

I have an interview on the 7th. G-ProteinStar-
I am also stoked about the location. I am leaning toward M.I. campus as well. PM me if you're going to be hanging out through the 7th.

Hey everyone-

I applied December 20, got the secondary early January, but didn't have it in my possession until January 13th when I got back to school. I didn't mail it in until February 5. Anyone think my long delay before sending it in could negatively affect my application? Will my MCAT be able to counter my subpar GPA? I applied to like 10 schools EARLY summer and no interview invites.

GPA: 3.05
MCAT: 33O

are you instate or out of state? did you apply to other osteopahic schools?

Out of state (Texas), applied to TCOM and Kirksville, but applied to Kirksville in October. Has Touro-NY said anything about in-state preference?

Just from reading all these articles, seems like TOUROCOM is really into recruiting minorities. My question is, who are considered minorities? does that mean that those who are not, will be at a disadvantage?

Just about every medical school has something to say about recruiting minorities. I would really not focus on that, from my interview I got the sense that they are looking for highly qualified applicants, since this would be their first class, and they are looking to make a statement with high board exam scores etc. Giving back to the harlem community, and training physicians to work in underserved communities is one of the missions of the school, but then again almost every medical school makes a statement about giving back to their community and training doctors to work in underserved communities. I assure/guarantee you that not being a minority is a disadvantage, you are at a disadvantage with low m-cat's and low GPA, and applying late, just like with any other school.

Would any of the accepted students mind sharing how much the deposit will be to hold a place in the class?

Many thanks!!!🙂

an outrageous $2000 within 14days.

it will definately filter out those who really want to go and those who are hesitant

Yowza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info. 🙂

WOW $2000? i thought other schools were crazy for having a $1000 deposit!

i dont blame them for doing this.
the demand is high yet they want to make sure those who get accepted will indeed go in order to fill their first graduating class.

Out of state (Texas), applied to TCOM and Kirksville, but applied to Kirksville in October. Has Touro-NY said anything about in-state preference?

They don't have a preference. I'm from the West Coast and my stats (at least my MCAT) are not in your ballpark. As far as medical schools are considered, I'm an "over-represented" applicant. However, I do have lots of medical experience with underserved communities and teaching experience (two things that parallel their focus). At my interview, there were people from all over the country. Definitely not the same approach as NYCOM (which requires higher stats from out-of-staters and only after in-staters have been considered), though yes, they (TouroCOM) seem to want to recruit people who WILL STAY in the area-
naturally, that often tends to be people who are ALREADY FROM the area! Though I don't think that's who they're recruiting at the moment (at least not this year since it's so late in the cycle, they're giving fair consideration to all).

(this was my post in another thread)

All jokes aside, the *Oprah and Dr. Oz subject* came up during the research department development portion of their presentation (so yea, I was subconsciously snoozing), but I believe their potential involvement encompasses mainly funding, and of course, publicity, i.e. encouraging under-represented students to apply. though i think that's more their external campaign, it seems like they were interviewing applicants from all sorts of backgrounds, not just minority applicants. i think they ideally prefer people who are at the end of the day, genuinely committed to to serving urban populations and have demonstrated that committment-
rather than admitting strictly minorities (which is how some people interpreted tourocom-ny's mission statement ).
not a big fan of research, but i got the impression one of their main goals is to pioneer the association of *research school* with *osteopathic medical school* and during my interview they emphasized incorporating mandatory research units in the curriculum. in the end, i think it's easier to get funding as a research-oriented school...
which is an angle that most other DO schools (correct me if I'm wrong) have not capitalized on. i think the research angle also gives greater prestige/credibility to a school's reputation

an outrageous $2000 within 14days.

All the Touro schools ask $2000 within 14 days. Mare Island is strict about receiving it within that time-frame (it's CA and they're in demand, plus they're old and established and not necessarily willing to be flexible with that).
Las Vegas will let you extend that time frame if you let them know your situation.
I got the impression Harlem will also be willing to wait longer if you can't come up with the $$ in 14 days (I thought they said something at my interview about this).
Bottom line, a lot of people will apply because it's NYC...To make a decision that is rational, you have to consider EVERYTHING, including the cost of life in the city. I think the $2K deposit DOES function to filter out serious from fantasy.

I'll first say that I love everything I'm hearing about Touro and really hope I get in!

I need advice. I called Obed last Friday to make sure my file was complete, and when he mentioned that it was, he said that I should be getting an email anyday now for an interview.....a whole week has gone by and I'm going crazy! I'm not exactly sure when my file was "complete" since I have letters/trascripts going in from different schools, but my minimal stuff should've been there for at least a couple of weeks (I think). I've been patient all week, but no email. Do you think I should email him or just hold out? The anticipation is killing me lol.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Call him,
He's cool as hell and understands our mounting anticipation. He'll give you the latest update and you'll be able to breathe.

Just got the secondary today!!!!!!

🙂 🙂 🙂

Hey dont worry. I called last week to check on my status as well, and Obed told me that I'd be getting an email soon from a Miss Copeland. I was getting a bit angsty and low and behold, I got an invite email from Touro. I swear I had the best feeling I've had in ages reading that email. This is my first interview invite and I hope to God that I make the best impression. Don't worry, that email will be coming in shortly. Don't lose hope :luck:

do u guys think it will be possible for me to get an interview invite with a 3.39overall, 3.35 non-science, 3.43 science and 23O MCAT, i've been complete since last monday?

will be interviewing either on 27th or 28th. Anybody else?
