Touro University - CA Fall 2011 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
hey fellow touro applicants,

I submitted my Touro PharmCAS designation in early december and I got an email today that I didn't get invited to the supplemental app. Do you guys what I did wrong. I am planning to get my degree by mid August and have 3.65 cum PharmCAS GPA and 3.57 sci PharmCAS GPA. Any suggestions.

I think you need to get your degree before mid Aug. which the school needs your degree before class start..... i am invited to supp application with less GPA than yours... if this helps

on my academic update I planned to mention that my bachelor degree was to be completed in July since my courses were completed this semester but I got an email response before i could submit my academic update. Is there any chance i could talk to them about this?

Anything trying is not a bad idea.. at least try to find out why you haven't been invited to the second application since your GPA looks great... good luck

I think you should contact Mr. Davis about your problem-- he's really nice. I'm pretty sure you'll get it all situated out 👍 There's no reason why they should deny you a supplemental invitation since you will be getting a degree.

congrats for your acceptance to Touro and Western. I am still waiting for my Western and will have interview with Touro on January 13th. Which one are you going to enroll?
Would you tell me about your Touro interview? What were the questions? and what was your essay topic? Have a great weekend🙂

Does anyone know the deadline for submitting supplemental application?

I submitted my PharmCAS kindof late. It was one week before Nov 1st. Haven't heard anything from them. I'm a bit worried cuz I know they are rolling admission. Does anyone who submitted PharmCAS late as me got anything back from them? Thanks~

Email Mr. Steven Davis and ask him about the status of your application. Make sure you provide your PharmCAS ID number so he knows what file to look for.

Touro placed me in Alternate. What I should do?

When i asked her about the supplemental deadline this is what she said:

"We do not have a deadline for the supplemental application as we are on rolling admissions. The sooner you submit your application the better."

I cant wait till we start classes 🙂 Touro was my #1 choice since its soo close to home. I feel so honored and blessed to be given this opportunity to be a member of this wonderful University. I'm still new to some of the facebook functions, but I hope someone creates a group profile for the pharmacy class of 2015, since I noticed there is one up for class of 2014. 😉

I was invited to an interview within two weeks of mailing my secondary app.

I got an email the other day from Touro CA and they thanked me for remaining patient and stated that they were still very interested in my application and that they hoped to interview me in the future. They also stated that it looked like they'd be interviewing into late May and to remain calm. Has anyone ever received an email from Touro or anyone else like this? All of the other schools responded with either interview invites or rejection letters. Touro seems like they're just putting me on hold :corny: but I guess it's better than a rejection!

As far as a 2.5 GPA getting into Medical School, it seems extremely low and you should try to raise it by taking some additionally classes and make sure you get all A's!!! Also, try to beef up your resume in other areas such as Medical experience (shadowing or employment), community service, and extracurriculars.

Best of luck to all!!! :luck:

Just received an e-mail today from Mr. Davis designating me as Medium Alternate. Disappointed for sure, but does anyone know how many people (if any) got in last year after getting placed on this part of the waitlist? Thanks and good luck to everyone.

On the interview day, I remember Mr. Davis mentioning that there were a few people who were picked off the medium alternate list over those on the high alternate list only when it got really close to the first day of class. This is because some medium alternate people were closer in proximity to the school, so therefore, they were more likely to attend the first day of class as opposed to those who lived further away.

But it really all depends on how many people are on the high alternate list and whether or not those who are accepted or on the high alternate list choose to attend other schools.

Got my unofficial acceptance today via email around 4:30. What a relief!

congrats, guys! out of curiosity, is touro your top choice so far?

Touro and UOP are my top choices since they're a relatively short distance from my home. Touro was the first one to respond with an acceptance letter, so I"ll probably end up attending Touro.

Can someone please tell me if there are any more interview sections coming up???

I am placed on High Alternate. I am having mix feelings about this, because I thought I would get rejected since I didn't do well at the interview, so I am happy on one hand. However, on the other hand, I am still waitlisted, that means I have to wait for another 5 months to find out if I will get accepted or not. Kind of stressful, since Touro is the only Pharmacy School I applied to this year. I really want to get in. Wish me luck!! :xf:

GOOD LUCK! UOP was the only school I applied to this cycle. :xf:

hey,
I got interviewed on Feb 9th and I was put in high alternate. I wonder what is my chance of getting into the school???
Can any one give the idea?

It's really hard to say. Of course being placed on the high alternate wait list gives you a higher chance than those on the lower end of the wait list but it's hard to give a definite answer. It really depends on how many people give up their seats and how many people they actually place on the high alternate list. I do remember that they reevaluate each candidate in the high alternate pool after all the interviews are over. So it does depend also on how all those alternates stack up against each other.

Thanks. It is kind of depressing though 🙁

Awww don't be sad! Turn that frown upside down! 🙂 The wait is definitely terrible but you have to stay positive and be patient. If you have new classes that you have taken or an update resume or new pharmacy experiences, it wouldn't hurt to send that to Touro so they can update your application.

Hello everyone,

I'm new here, submitted my pharmCAS on 2/15 and just recieved my supplemental invitation on 3/1. I also applied separately for the MPH at Touro and got accepted. YaY!!! I hope this will facilitate my entry into Touro COP. I applied pretty late so I only applied to Touro and Northstate.

Here my stats:
Pharmcas GPA: 3.57
GPA 3.56
B.S. Chemistry Cum Laude
UC Davis PHD chem (drop out)

Hey guys, do you think mentioning my short time in my PhD would hurt or help my application? I would like to mention it because I think it would distinguish me from other applicants. I just worry that it would affect my application negatively. I dropped out because PHD level work just wasnt for me. Thanks for the advice

It's somewhat hard to tell how they will take this, especially since chemistry is relevant to pharmacy. I personally think that if you worked on research that has been published and you were given credit on the paper, then its worth mentioning, otherwise I don't think I would. If you were involved in research as an undergrad or as a job, it might be better to mention that instead.

And if you do decide to mention that you were in a phd program, I would definitely be prepared to answer why you decided it wasn't for you, what you learned from the experience, why you chose pharmacy, and what makes you believe you can be successful in pharmacy school.

Hope some of those ideas help, and good luck with your applications! 🙂

If anyone here from Sacramento got accepted and is planning to commute daily, PM me cuz we could start up a carpool 🙂

I live in Citrus Heights to be more specific.

To those of you who got accepted...

Congrats! What are you guys doing for housing? I live in SoCal so I have to rely on the internet to do my apartment hunting, but it's a bit overwhelming! Are most students living in Vallejo? I've heard people say Benicia is a good place too, but isn't the commute ~ 20 min? I have 2 small dogs and most of the apartments I've looked at only allow max one dog. I know it's only March, but I'm leaving in June for 5 weeks and I won't have enough time before school starts to find an apartment when I get back the last week of July.

Hi everyone! I got an e-mail saying the school received my supplemental application on 2/18, but I haven't heard anything yet. How long does it normally take to hear from them? Should I email and ask about my status? Or is it too soon?

I think you should give it some time since it is on a rolling basis. It's only been ~3 weeks for you. I also believe that Touro has interviews all the way until the end of April (I forget the exact date) so you should be fine. But if you're really anxious then I don't think it would hurt to send an email.

I've been looking for places on craigslist and hope to find something before June (MPH begins on June 1). I've been looking for places on MAre Island, but there isn't a variety

Just out of curiosity, when did you submit your supplemental application, and how many days do they give you to prepare for the interivew?

Thanks in advance!

Submitted supplemental Jan 31st, and got invite a week later. They give you two weeks to respond (call) to set up an interview day. I called by Feb 16, and then choose the March 10th interview date. So that is a good 3-4 week preparation.

Submitted my Supplemental for Touro on 3/6 and they've received it and said my application is complete. I'm super anxious about getting an interview; this is my first PharmD application and Touro is my first choice. I just love this school for some reason!!!!
I feel kinda confident because I've done work with in Public Health and Pharmacy with global organizations in developing countries; I also got accepted into Touro's MPH program (I included my acceptance letter in my COP supplemental application).

It depends when the committee decides to meet. But from what I remember, I think it's every 2 weeks on a Wednesday. So depending on when your interview falls, you may wait between 1-2 weeks.

It seems like you and me are on the very same boat 😀 I've been waiting since 3/3 after they emailed me saying my app is now completed... hopefully we will get the invite soon :luck:

Does anyone have interview scheduled on late March or April?
