hello everyone

just a few hours after my previous post I got the conditional acceptance email! I am so excited that I will be going somewhere ! I have a friend who is doing his undergrad at UNLV and he lives in Henderson and I visited the city once and it looks like an awesome place to stay. Now just to wait for the mail to come in :D - so as I wait for more schools TUN sounds like a great option for me

For those who are applying: according to PTCAS if your app meets all the pre-reqs you should receive a supplemental application to fill out and return back to TUN.

Congrats. How long did it take for TUN to send you the supplemental application? I submitted my verified PTCAS but have yet to receive any email from them. It seems like they are sending out acceptances, I hope there is still some spots left.

Not too sure. I got mine within a few days but now since it is peak time for apps they may have a slower response rate. The admissions counselor was out of his office all week last week so he may have some catching up to do.

Congratz on finally getting your acceptance!! It feels so awesome to know you'll be going somewhere for sure, huh? It sure does for me!

Earlier today I actually got an acceptance letter to the Bay Shore campus at Touro College in New York. I'm still choosing TUN over the NY school, because it makes much more sense for me, but feels good to finally be getting acceptances as a re-applicant!

Congrats on everything! How long did it take you to hear from Touro NY from getting the email that your application had been forwarded to the admissions committee for a formal review?

Hey I just got accepted to TUN I am coming from NY to go to school there. Is anyone on this post attending school for the 2017 cohort?

I'm seeing a lot of acceptances for TUN... Anyone know how many spots are still left?????

@BrokenDancer - I received the first email on 10/1 and received my acceptance on 10/24.

@247834 - I'm about 95% sure that I'll be attending TUN. It all just depends on a couple schools I applied to in California, but I don't think I have the best shot at those, especially because they accept mostly in-state applicants. I'll be coming from Ohio, so at least I won't be the furthest one away! It should be an interesting move. Did you send in your deposit?

@dcscott325 - Their class size is around 40 students. I believe they send out many acceptances and keep a relatively deep wait-list because many students use TUN as a safety school. While it's still a great and accredited program, I feel like many students choose to stay closer to home over moving to Las Vegas if they are given the opportunity.

@hmmmatt:

That's what I'm hoping for. TUN isn't a "safety school" for me... I live less than 10 mins away for there so it's a "convenience school". Especially since I can't move for school. I can only go either there or UNLV due to my husband's job.

Guess I'll just have to remain patient and wait and see.

That's great! I'm actually really excited to go there. Do you live in Henderson then? I'm trying to get a good idea of where I should be looking for an apartment, or where I should NOT be looking for an apartment. If you have any recommendations on certain areas or even certain apartment complexes please let me know! From looking at the apartment complexes online, many of them in the Las Vegas look like resorts! They look really amazing, especially for the lower rent.

@hmmmatt:

Henderson is really nice. It's broken up into different towns by the casinos/main roads that are in them. I have no idea what rent prices are like in any of them (we own our house) but here are some really nice areas to look at. I've listed them by order of closeness to TUN:
Green Valley (north or south)-- TUN is in this area
Whitney Ranch
Sunset
Silverado Ranch (I think this is technically Las Vegas)
The above are all outward from TUN towards the Strip. If you went the other direction you could try:
Downtown Henderson
Black Mountain
Boulder City

Most areas here are nice, but I would avoid the following if possible:
Paradise (UNLV is here. Despite its name, I don't trust any area where your home requires security bars on all of the windows)
North Las Vegas (waaaay on the other side of town anyway)

Out of all of the places I listed, I like Green Valley the best. Then again I may be biased because I live here : )

Good luck on your apartment hunt! Don't know much about the complexes themselves but the areas are amazing!

Hey guys!

I am expecting to receive the formal e-mail from TUN shortly. The admissions coordinator informed me that the mail was sent out earlier today.

Have any of you gotten a chance to tour TUN? I know they host open tours every thursday afternoon but unfortunately I will not be able to tour the campus with my family until late december / early january as I still in the process of finishing up my last semester of my undergrad.

Like I said in a previous post in September I had a chance to visit my friend's house around Whitney Ranch close to TUN and I must say it is a quiet neighborhood on its own. It's much different from the current city I live in (LA). A new scene of change is a good thing right?

Hey guys! Just found this forum and thought I'd join in.

I just got my acceptance to TUN and am extremely excited because last cycle did not go well for me. My letter should be arriving later on this week as I got an email today confirming some sort of delay. I plan on taking a trip out there in a month or two and touring the campus a bit. I still have some other schools to here back from but plan on sending my deposit in as soon as the letter arrives.

Congrats to all of you that have heard from TUN thus far and good luck to those who are still waiting!

To anyone whose already received an acceptance to TUN...

How long did it take to get your acceptance from the time that PTCAS mailed your app??

And what are your stats (if you don't mind), please?

Eagerly awaiting... This is killing me!

Hey dscott!

It took TUN a few days for them to send me the supplemental app. According to PTCAS receipt of the supplemental app indicates that your pre-reqs meet TUN's requirements. Since it is peak season for PTCAS it really depends on when PTCAS will mail out the app so I cannot predict how long it would take for TUN to send the supplemental app.

Once you complete the supplemental app, it took them 2 days or so for them to notify me that my admission went under formal review. I was notified I would receive notice within 28 days and I received notice on day 28.

You can look at the sticky on the forum to see everyone's states and their journeys or you can dig through this thread :D

wish you luck!

I just received an email from TUN and they put me on the waitlist. :(
Are my chances slim, because they confirmed the submission last week and gave me a quick response about the waitlist.

I bet you have a pretty good shot. They keep a pretty deep wait-list, and you'll likely be pulled off as people receive acceptances from schools that are higher up on their choice list. Remember that it's still very early in the application cycle. Many schools haven't even reached their deadline yet, so acceptance letters are still a ways away. You're the first person I've seen on here that was wait-listed, so I bet you're at the top of the wait-list, which gives you a really good shot at an acceptance. What are your stats? Good luck!

Hi everyone! I am just filling out my supp app. and this is a pretty general question. But did you check summer or fall term for 2014 just because if starts in July. I can't find anywhere on the website. Thanks! And congrats on your acceptances!

hey! you can go ahead and put summer 2014 in the supplemental application.

I just put my deposit in so I am good to go. Is there a facebook group or anything for the class?

Hey guys! Yeah I'm pretty sure I put summer on my app too. I also sent in my deposit a few weeks ago! I'm about 95% sure that I'm going to be going to Touro. There are a few other schools I'm waiting on hearing back from, but I don't think I'll get into them. I am really excited to attend Touro and really the only reason I'm applying to any others is because of location. Henderson seems like an awesome place to live, but some other schools are just closer to family and whatnot. Anyways, good luck applicants!

I'm declining my acceptance...hope that makes someone else's dreams a reality!

Are there multiple terms for the program? Because I think I put fall.

No there is only one class per year, so I bet it's fine if you put fall, they will understand. If you want, it might help to email Mr. Wilson and let him know that you were applying for the 2014 cohort. He's pretty good at getting back to you quickly, and I've found him very helpful in general throughout this whole process.

Thank you for the help! I submitted it on Friday, I hope it's not too late!

hey guys!

I just submitted my TUN deposit.

Does anyone want to start up an informal facebook page until the page for the final cohort is established? If so. private message me :D

Just got the email from TUN saying I've been wait listed... Called the school and they said the wait list is actually ordered by stats ranking, not first-come first-served...anyone else that's been wait listed as nervous as I am???

Hey dcscott325,

yeah, I just received an email also that says that I'm wait listed. Pretty bummed at the moment, but I know there's still hope for getting accepted. What are some of the stats for people that got wait listed if you all don't mind?

Here's mine....

Cumulative GPA: 3.23
Pre-Req GPA: 3.61
Science GPA: 3.08
Post-Bacc GPA: 4.00

GRE: 153 V, 159 Q, 3.0 AW

@Wadezo...

Yea, I'm kind of bummed too. It's not an all-hope-is-lost feeling though, more like "I wish I had at least one acceptance right now to ease my nerves" kind of thing. Trying not to get too worked up over it right now though. When I spoke to the director, he said the majority of last year's class was actually from the wait list. A lot of students decline come spring once they get their acceptances from other schools.

Here's my stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.69
Cumulative GPA: 3.59
1500 observation hours (in and out patient, peds, geriatrics, orthopedics, sports, neuro, cardio-pulmonary)
GRE: 157 V, 149 Q, 5.0 AW

Dcscott, relax! You'll get in somewhere with those kind of numbers, as long as you applied to a few schools!

The Touro deadline is 2/3/14 so I think you are good. Apply away. I'm still writing my supplemental essay and I"m still gonna apply afterward.

Hi, can you guys share the essay question(s) of the supplemental application so i can start working on it?! I'm planning to submit my application within a week or so but prefer to have supp. app. essay ready too.

The supplemental application does not have any other essays/short answer questions.

Good luck with your applications!

Does Touro do interviews? I need to expand my options even though it is kind of late and seems like they have already accepted a good bit of applicants.

Yea DCscott I think you're gonna be strait, I applied to Touro and got in but declined my acceptance because u got into my Florida school. Your stats are better then mine but I applied August first. Good luck

Thanks for the encouragement! I know my stats are good but I stress because I could only apply to the 2 schools here in Las Vegas. I can't move just for school because I have to stay where my husband's job keeps him (its how we're paying for all of this after all!) it really reduces my chances when I don't have a dozen schools to choose from : (

Hi guys! To all of those who applied and received a supplemental app after, do you guys remember how long it took to get the application following mailing date? My application was mailed on 11/28 and till today I still haven't got the supplemental application ( I do meet all the requirement for admission).. Thank you for the replies in advance :)

end508: I received the supplemental application a week after my application was mailed through PTCAS. You should be receiving it via email within the next few days. If you do not, I would recommend emailing them.

Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that some of the current DPT students along with Touro have created a Facebook page for the School of Physical Therapy. It is relatively new, but, we hope it will be a way for you all to learn more about the program and see some of the current students in action. Pictures of the facilities are coming soon so stay tuned! https://www.facebook.com/TouroDPT

Also, being a current student, please don't hesitate to PM me any questions you have.

As a current student, can you give us a Better idea about "30% of the program is online". What are the online classes like?! And how many online classes are usually taken per semester.

I'm not sure where you got the 30% online. Since I have been at Touro we have had 3 classes online and 1 was because the teacher moved to teach at another school in Ohio and finished the remainder of her contract. The other two courses that were online were Pharmacology and Neurological Conditions. The course is streamed live through adobe connect and can be recorded for future viewing. You can ask questions real time as well. Honestly, there really is no difference between the online classes and normal class. It all depends on the teacher. Those classes were online because the school had outside faculty members from others schools teach. They are experts in their respective fields so we get top quality teachers teaching those classes. When the 17's start class it could be all different. I think Touro is still trying to hire another full time faculty that may pick up those classes.

Thank you so much for your insight on the online classes.. "The 30% online classes" was from Touro"s page on the PTCAS website.. Thank you again, that was very helpfully.

I received my "4 weeks" email a few days ago. I can't handle the uncertainty of the application process anymore, so I'm proceeding with life as though I weren't going to PT school. Just controlling what I can control right now. Here are my stats:

Drexel University, B.S. psychology
New York University, M.A. English Education
Overall GPA: 3.13 (PTCAS)
Prereq GPA: 3.26 (PTCAS)
GRE: 161V, 149Q, 3.5AW

Almost all of my subpar grades are around 18-20 years old, which I think they should take into consideration. I was wait listed by several schools last cycle, so I've come to view the wait list as a pipe dream. This may not be true in the case of TUN. Who knows? Nobody except the TUN Admissions Committee. I have 248 hours of observation, split between a private clinic and an acute rehab ward in a hospital. This is my attempt at a second career after being a high school teacher.

Does anyone know if they ranked the waitlist yet?

For you Touro guys (and girls :)), am I reading their website correctly - is it really $30,000 a year? I was reading about their program today and considering adding it to my list to apply to next year, but not if it's truly 30k a year..

Hey Guys!
I have a low GPA... but initially when applying I was pretty naive and applied to a lot of reach schools. Then, I realized my mistake and added some schools that consider highest grade when calculating GPA, have lower requirements, etc. Now, I've recently decided I should have focused on schools with lower avg GPA's accepted. As you all know, it is late in the application cycle, but Touro's deadline has not passed. Is it even worth applying, or do you think it's just way too late in the cycle? I definitely value Touro as a school, but at the same time I don't want to waste money on something that isn't even a possibility. Thank you!!
