What's the best way to prepare for a 1-on-1 interview? I've been reviewing my primary and secondary app. I've been recording myself answering "why medicine", "tell me about yourself", "why this school." I have been recording myself in order to make sure I'm speaking with proper eye contact, hand gestures and so that I can eliminate any "umms" and other nervous ticks.

Anything else I should be doing ? Also, I've been answering "tell me about yourself" w/o addressing "why medicine", because I've heard from Dr Ryan Gray and others that it's best to just talk about hobbies family etc, since the interviewer will undoubtedly ask you "why medicine." Is it fine to just talk about your non-academic life when answering "tell me about yourself"?

That's pretty good prep. I have a rough outline for what I want to talk about when someone asks "tell me about yourself", but I haven't been asked that in a single interview yet! I think it would be a good idea to relate it to medicine at some point. Talk about hobbies and your life growing up, but give little pearls that point to why you are there.

I made it a point during my interviews to pretty much only talk about things that I knew I could elaborate on. You feel really prepared if you know for a fact that every response you give comes from a place of knowledge/security, whether it's being able to speak deeply about yourself, medicine, or (select) random tangents that you and the interviewer can bond over.

Doesn't your school help with interviews?
