Hi all,
I'm new to SDN and hoping this post gets to the right audience!

I am currently in my 3rd term of veterinary school at SGU, class of 2024. We spent our entire first year online and finally got to the island this August. However, we have recently resumed back online. Although they say it's temporary, I am very concerned with how this online learning is going to ultimately impact my career. I do not feel like I am getting the best education I could and for this reason, I am seriously looking into transferring. I am mostly looking into UGA, however, I would probably be open to transfer to any school that accepted me. From what I understand, if I were to apply to transfer now (as a 3rd term student) I would be most likely applying to enter the fall or spring class of 2025, forcing me to redo my second year. I was wondering if anyone had experience with this. I read the credentials and it says I need to write a cover letter stating the reason for transferring. Does anyone have advice on how to construct this?

I have no idea how many students apply to transfer or if I even have a chance at getting in. I got a 3.22 in term 1 and a 3.68 in term 2, so my cumulative GPA is a 3.46, which I have no idea if that is considered "above average" or not. I have experience galore (small animals, aquatic animals, exotic animals) and strong leadership credentials. I think grades are what prevented me from getting into UGA when I initially applied to veterinary schools.

Basically, I'm desperate to relocate veterinary schools and any advice would help.

Hey! So it's best to reach out to the schools you are interested in to see what requirements they need from you for transferring. Transferring is very variable depending on if the school even has spots available to fit you into their class. I know some of my classmates have transferred to various schools and no matter what you will most likely have to repeat classes to accommodate their credits. I believe you can also reach out to DOS to get advice on transferring as well. In regards to the cover letter you may be able to find examples online, but it's mainly the school wanting to know what reasons you are wanting to leave one school for another (ex. Financial constraints, family issues, mental wellbeing).

I am At Ross and we have had students transfer to ISU, Illinois CVM, LSU… it’s very doable. Most schools have a 3.0 gpa requirement and will usually bump an islander back to 2nd year because the curriculums just don’t match up so they drop you back to where you’d be missing something they taught in 2nd year. The schools also are more likely to take transfers in the fall over spring semester- and of course dependent if they have an open seat or not.

I feel you for the online environment, it sucks. We are still all online for lectures but at least we got in person labs back. I looked Into transferring for the same reason but didn’t want to be set back a year.
