I am a 4th year who is still a little bit on the fence about what I want to do, although I've been planning on applying to internal medicine and becoming a hospitalist. There are a couple of other specialties that I haven't explored yet, including EM--I have my required EM rotation just before the end of interview season this year.
Given that November may find me still unsure, I am considering doing an unlinked transitional year internship to explore my options a little more.
If I end up discovering that EM is the right direction for me too late to make a go of it this match year, is it reasonable to plan on doing a TY as a back door? Are there pgy-2 positions out there for people coming out of a TY that you don't have to apply for in your 4th year of medical school? Or is an unlinked TY a major dead end if one decides they want to train in EM?
Thanks in advance for any input👍
