I just received my official orders and first post assignment. Hopefully there is someone here that can help walk me through this summer with moving, OBLC and getting to post b/c my recruiter is zero help and this seems out of Ms. Flores' jurisdiction.

1. Where can I get a copy of my DEERS form to get on a waiting list for housing? Is there a way I can get a copy from my AKO account and if so, where?

2. With my orders in how do I make arrangements to get a flight to OBLC on June 12th?

3. How do I hire a moving company? What do I need to get one? There is nothing about this in my orders but a website address that is no longer functioning. http://www.hqda.army.mil/acsim/relocate.shtml

Any help from anyone who has made this transition would be really helpful. Thank you.

Most of those things you mentioned can be taken care of at any military base (doesn't have to be Army) that is close by. If no active duty military base is close by I would recommend calling your recruiter (even though he is no help) and asking how he coordinates his moves.

You should also have a sponsor assigned for you at your new location you will be going to. Contacting the DENTAC Commander there now and introducing yourself is a good way to get that started.

1) I've never heard of needing a DEERS form. Once you are in the military (when you started HPSP) all DEERS information on your family should have been put into the system and can be pulled up at any base. Usually the housing office needs you to personally be present with a copy of your orders in order to get on the list. Here is a website I found that may help as well.

2) You can do this at a military base or you can google search and find a phone number for any Carlson Wagonlit office at a military base (something about this or a phone number may be included in your orders). They will make your reservations and you will need to fax them a copy of your orders.

3) You do not hire a moving company, the govt has contracts already in place. You need to call the nearest military base and get ahold of transportation office. They will let you know what you need to do.
