Hey guys. Im a dual citizen of Canada and america. Im a 4th student who created a new profile for this question. I had a bit of a stupid situation at a hotel a few days ago in Canada and the cops were called. Anyway I got along quite well with the officer, and he decided to just give me a trespassing warning, which I had to sign. I wasn't arrested, wasn't charged, didnt pay a fine. Etc. He wrote a police report and just escorted me off the property and said to not come back. He said I was lucky things worked out the way they did and what happened does not show up on anything and won't affect my future. Eras was obviously already submitted on sep 15. Im not applying to any canadian programs. I can't go back and look at the criminal related questions on eras, I tried. I'm assuming all the questions were something like have you ever been "arrested" "convicted" or "charged"? All these are no in my situation. Anyway am I just freaking out here? Is this something I have to disclose to anyone or check a yes box for anything in the future like after I match? When I need a license? Etc does this count as yes for misdemeanor?

If you had commited a first degree murder the day after your app was submitted, the answer there would still be no. Of course, when you didn't show up for your interview because you were in jail, that might have become an issue (which actually happened at my program with a faculty candidate).

As to whether you need to disclose this, I'm going to start by saying that IANAL and you should retain competent legal representation (an oxymoron if ever there was one) to truly answer the question.

That said, it sounds like you got the equivalent of a speeding ticket, basically a "being a drunk pain in the ass" ticket. You don't report that. It won't ever matter.

I really want to hear the back story. Unless it's wedding-related, in which case I'll pass.

If she is over the age of 25, there is a >90% chance it is wedding related (or at a minimum, boyfriend/fiancee-related). If she is over the age of 30, it's a 100% chance.

You weren't arrested or charged, so I don't think its necessary to disclose it. However, I, like everyone, am curious to hear the whole story. How did you get caught trespassing at a hotel? :corny:

Hell, I want to hear @gutonc 's story about the faculty candidate!!
Since you asked....

Disease site senior faculty candidate (I'm an oncologist, we get sub-divided by disease site) from a big place you've heard of in Monkey Butt, TX. Multiple interviews, loved by all, offer letter sent...no response...follow up phone calls...no response...follow up certified letters...no response. Finally get a letter back from her attorney stating that she won't be able to accept the position since she's currently on house arrest, out on bail on charges of attempted murder. Apparently tried to poison her fiance who she thought was having an affair (also a co-worker).

Offer retracted.

Ah yes, I remember that story. One of my best friends did her Surg Onc fellowship in Monkey Butt and knew her (and was not surprised). Apparently just went to trial a couple of weeks ago.

Given that two mods are in on the discussion, I figure it's not outside the TOS to post a link to the quite clearly described story GutOnc and WS are referencing: http://www.chron.com/news/texas/article/Houston-doctor-charged-with-poisoning-her-lover-5755627.php
Thanks for the link. The details I had at the time were 3rd hand (my research mentor was on the search committee) and it's been awhile so I was afraid I was being hyperbolic. Apparently not.

Incidentally, that position remains unfilled. A little shell shock on the part of the department leadership I think.

I can understand why leadership is wary about interviewing again.
She was officially convicted on Friday; she hasn't been sentenced yet.

Hell hath no fury...

She's obviously got issues but the guy shouldn't have been messing around on his GF.

Yeah I was gonna say...both parties to this snafu sound like idiots.
