For those that just got that email & an interview soon after...do you mind giving your stats? I just got that email too & I'm anxiously waiting for a definitive response at this point...good or bad I just need closure
🙂
Three questions:
1) How does TUCOM-CA go about requesting for interviews? I'm guessing it's done via email.
2) At their website, it mentions "Typically, successful candidates earn Science and Cumulative GPA's of 3.0 or greater and have obtained a minimum combined MCAT score of 23, though the Admissions and Standards Committee will, on a case by case basis, look below these figures." Are these numbers outdated? And, are these numbers minimum academic requirements for successful admission, or minimum academic requirements for a secondary? Since it is written after the Admission Deadline paragraph, I'm assuming these stats apply to those admitted to the school.
3) Anyone (or know of anyone) here been accepted by TUCOM with these (or similar) numbers?
For those of you that have put down a deposit for a spot in the class, have you received anything else besides the email entitled "TUCOM CA Deposit Received"?
I hope this isn't a sign of what to expect at Touro...they'll mail you a few letters too stating that you need to get your shots in, mail your transcripts, etc....
This thread is deadI hope this isn't a sign of what to expect at Touro...
What's up guys! How's it going? Where's everybody from? When do you all plan on moving up? Who's doing the DO/MPH? etc haha
And I as well! YAY Interview!!
Does anyone know when TUCOM CA's Phase 2 interview cycle begin?
Hi all,
I have a quick question about admission requirements. On the website, Touro says it requires 2 behavioral science courses. Would a sociology course count or is that more social sciences? I've already taken intro psych- just trying to figure out how to meet this last requirement.
Thanks,
Fay
i just found out i've gotten into western u. what do you guys think of western? would you choose it over touro-ca?
I interviewed at both western and touro-ca, and ill give you my two cents:
I didn't like Western. A lot of the staff seemed disinterested in 'pitching' the school to us, the place had a very high-school like vibe, and they would never get back to me when they said they would (although this isn't uncommon among schools). My interview went well, but nothing about the school really jumped out at me. During the morning introduction with the dean, the focus seemed to be on how great the school's reputation was, and that rubbed me the wrong way too. I tend not to like it when people use prestige as a selling point.
Pomona's also an absolute pit, even though most students commute from nearby places like Chino Hills or West Covina.
I liked Touro-CA, although it wasn't without its problems. From the get-go, they were honest, enthusiastic, and they really made an effort to answer our questions about the school instead of just dangling pamphlets in our face. The school is a little decrepit, as its located on a former naval base, but the setting is absolutely gorgeous. Students were happy, friendly, and I really liked the fact that you get to dissect cadavers as part of gross anatomy instead of having them prosected. The campus is small, but views of the bay and the well-groomed grounds more than make up for that. If I had to comment on one thing (problems with rotations aside), it'd be that I felt a little isolated there. There is a single paved bridge from Mare Island to the mainland, and it really is the only drag in and out of there if you're going to be commuting (which is what most do).
I'd choose Touro over western because i think I'm a better fit. Check their match list too. Although it isn't as impressive as Western's, it sure as hell ain't bad at all, especially for a school that new.

Congrats!!!
Congrats on the interview. It was a pretty low-key day with a lot of presentations from the Admissions Director, Donald Haight, who is awesome... and a few other people. The main thing to be aware of is the group format of the interview: 4 - 6 students and 3 AdComs (including one student). They basically go from person to person asking questions that are very specific to your application and history. I don't remember too many (if any) broad questions like "how would you fix the health care system"... more like, "explain your shadowing experience in the surgery center" type stuff. There was a bit more "grilling" here than I've experienced at other interviews, but not in a combative way... just challenging. My advice is to keep it succinct and, of course, stay calm.
I'm interviewing on the 18th next week and getting more excited, but still a tad bit nervous for the "grilling" portion of the interview...
for those of you that have recently interviewed, has the Admissions Director mentioned if they had moved into the second phase of interviews yet?

what do you guys mean by first phase and second phase? i'm interviewing on the 25th, which phase will i be in??I just had an interview today and there was no "grilling" involved. They just asked normal questions with 5 of us in the room. You just need to keep your head and not babble and you'll do fine.
Also the Dean said they are still in the first phase of interviews so anyone interviewing this week and next week will still be a part of the first phase.
Hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions. good luck![]()

thanks for the info! For you? The Third phase...
lol, j/k, Anyway, in the first phase, the admission board does not have a limit on how many people they can take in an interview group. If they interview 5 people and they like them all, they have a choice to accept them all. In the second phase, you'll be fighting for a spot. The interviewer are told that they can only take a certain amount of students per interview, if it happens to be 2 spot, then out of the 5 people they are interviewing, they have to decide which 2 to take.
As far as which phase you're in, that's determined by the amount of accepted people. If in the next few weeks all the people they interviewed turns out to be psychopath or lethargic individuals, then they chose to accept none of them, then when you interview it'll still be first phase cause they haven't fill enough spots to move into second phase. However, the reverse could be said. But don't quote me on this, as the only person who really knows how many people had been accepted and when to move into second phase is Dr. Haight and he will let you know on your interview date if you're in the second or first phase so you'll know if you need to put your game face on (I think you should always put your game face on).
btw, which airport did you guys fly into? im coming from new york and i dont know whether i should land in san francisco or oakland
thanks!I did San Francisco. Both are near each other and that shuttle service Touro recommends goes to both. Go with whatever is cheaper.
I've been complete since July and never even got their update e-mails... maybe I'll e-mail them for an update and give them an update of my own. I just want an interview invite for an excuse to go to norcal and visit some friends![]()
Send Lynn an email about how you still want to interview there, and of course update her with whatever new info you have. I feel like I got my interview because I stayed in touch with her.
Ya, I'll send her an e-mail tomorrow when I'm not at work. We'll see what happens. I can't really picture myself turning away from the 1000 dollar deposit and feeling I got from AZCOM barring Touro really blowing me away though. Plus I'll be back in Cali in two years anyway.
What do you mean by "AZCOM barring Touro"?
Poor grammar and phrasing. I'm at work so I was writing quickly. Basically I'm saying that unless Touro absolutely blows me away I couldn't see myself walking away from $1000 deposit from AZCOM. Fixed.
