I just wanted to start a thread about the Tufts University program because I haven't seen one yet. I received an acceptance on Feb. 15, anyone else considering this school? I also want to know if there are any current students on the forum who could share some of your experience. How do you like the program so far? Thanks!!

Yes, I've been accepted as well and I am considering going there!

I am still waiting on a decision from Tufts, Did you receive an email on your acceptance letter? As well as when did you apply to the program?

The admissions coordinator called students individually. I was just sent my acceptance email yesterday to make it official. I also applied at the beginning of January!

Hi everyone! I also received an acceptance February 15th. I am still waiting on two other schools but I think I will be attending!!

My daughter graduated from Tufts Boston School of Occupational Therapy a little over a year ago. She was very pleased with the program. And she had the opportunity to travel abroad to Oxford,UK through Tufts for a semester. Also, a 2 week program in China sponsored by the school. Her experience at Tufts prepared her well. She passed the NBCOT exam with flying colors and has been working at a pediatric therapy center locally for the last several months. She also did her second Fieldwork ll there. Her first one was in Providence, RI.

We live on the West Coast and she really wanted to attend grad school back East. She was impressed with the very personal and thorough tour at Tufts and the school in general. She was fortunate to find an awesome house to share with four other grad students within walking distance to school. She enjoyed her time in and around Boston for those 2+ years. And she liked her professors and cohort. It was well worth the student loans, she said.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to send me a message.

Hey! I was accepted earlier in Feb and I am pretty sure I will be attending! I just got waitlisted at my other top choice school and Tufts was already edging them out anyways so I figure I should just commit already!

The admissions director has been SO helpful and willing to answer my questions (and I've had a lot of questions!), and that level of support really helped sway me (in addition to it being a great program).

Hopefully I'll see some of you in Boston!

Was admitted earlier too, but I am struggling with making a decision between NYU and Tufts. What questions did you ask? if you don't mind sharing some of the informations you got. it seems tufts has replaced their ms program information to the new OTD program.

I'll try to summarize as best as I can! I actually also got admitted to NYU as well but the cost of living in Manhattan was going to be too much for me so I didn't bother doing a lot to compare the two programs.

I asked for a copy of the course sequence and she was able to provide that to me since it's no longer on the website, which was helpful to review against the course descriptions online. I asked about the possibility of taking electives, and Tufts does have room in the schedule to take a couple elective classes. You can also pursue a certificate, so potential to graduate with a specialization in something.

Since they're transitioning to the OTD, she also told me that when Masters students are approaching their graduation, they will have the option to apply to stay for one more year to get their OTD. She talked a lot about how much you'd be able to work with your advisor to determine if that's the right path for you.

Along those lines, she said you start working with your advisor as early as first semester to start finding fieldwork II placements (and in some cases if you get at least one of those set early enough, they can place you there for one of your level I's which is helpful to get you familiar with the place). In talking about level I fieldwork, I liked that level I placements happened while taking the classes related to that area, and that you could get exposure to other settings and populations through service learning opportunities.

It sounds like Tufts has connections all over, which was important to me as I'm not sure about whether I want to stay in Boston after graduation, so being able to do a fieldwork II back in my home state is helpful. She also said that faculty are always willing to help out grads of the program, using an example of someone looking to transition into a new area and reaching out to a staff member with a professional connection to someone working in that area.

I was just so impressed with how willing the admissions director has been to take extra time to talk to me. I'd highly encourage you to reach out with questions if you have them, and she can also put you in touch with current students too.

Hope that helps!

Oh wow. So Level II's can be completed outside of Boston? I thought they had the be at the same sites as our level I's.

Looking at the website it now says: "When applicable, occupational therapy practice course Level I experience may utilize a Same Site Model (Evenson, Barnes, and Cohn, AJOT 2002) wherein students are placed for Level I experience at their future Level II fieldwork site."

I think the website/program has been changing a lot. For example, I can't find the study abroad experience now. Anyone else notice this?

I emailed the coordinator for the curriculum and the study abroad information. She did replied me with a lot of helpful attachments. On the curriculum doc it says "*Note: If awarded study abroad in Spring of second year – likely will need to take OTS 226 and other courses TBD in subsequent Fall and do second Level II fieldwork April-June." I guess that there is an application for study abroad before the spring of the second year. Study abroad opportunity in this program is a huge plus for me!
I can forward you her email if you want it.

From my conversation with the admissions director, the Same Site model only applies if you have already gotten your Level II fieldwork arranged prior to Level I. In those cases, if it works out, they like to place you at the same Level I site where you will eventually do your Level II. But it sounds like it's not a requirement if it doesn't work out.

Awesome! I'll go ahead and contact her since I have a few other questions to ask as well. Thanks!

My daughter did her first Fieldwork ll placement in Providence, RI and her second placement right here in the county where she’s from. She was able to coordinate that with her Fieldwork director at Tufts and the pediatric facility. She was hired there after her 3 month Fieldwork was over.

My daughter absolutely LOVED studying abroad through the program. She spent time after the semester traveling around Europe, as well as traveling during Spring break with classmates/dorm mates she met. She made friends while at Oxford-Brooke’s University and they’ve visited her later at home. She did have to take another class or two that she couldn’t take overseas, but it was well worth the experience of studying abroad. And since her airfare and boarding was paid for, she just paid for the semester, food and miscellaneous.
