Just going out on a limb here. I have my bachelors and have completed allllll of my science pre-reqs at a 4 year university EXCEPT for biochem, which I haven't taken yet but is a requirement at Tufts. I'm currently enrolled at a community college that offers biochem this spring, but the Tufts website says"Community college coursework is not accepted."

Has anyone out there petitioned or somehow persuaded Tufts to accept just one community college course, or know someone who did? (Obviously, I'm being optimistic that I would even be accepted, but I gotta cover my bases!)

I ask coz I'm trying to save money and also the state schools around me (very few) have very, very small biochem lectures that look like they will fill up pretty fast before I get my nondegree student apps processed at their schools and am granted permission to enroll... my last-resort option would be to take biochem at any school over the first summer session before matriculating, pay $$$$ just to take this one course, but I'd rather avoid that if possible. Anyone out there who knows what I should do?

I dont have biochem. Does this seriously mean I cant get in?

Correspondence/on line course Utah State - they offer just about anything you need, affordably. Utah State correspondence is pretty respected and apparently gets coursework to people all over earth (I've heard that mostly missionaries take the classes but there are no restrictions). However, they follow a calendar very close to the regular semester. If money is no object then check out the University of Maryland online.

I think you can still be admitted, you're just expected to have taken it before matriculating.

I took one course (bio 1 at a community college) and they were willing to accept that. You should definitely call the admissions office and ask (they'll probably tell you to take it at a 4 year university). They may be willing to make an exception for you. I think the only reason they let me by was because I have lots of other upper level biology courses to make up for it? :luck:

Has anyone even heard from Tufts yet??

I do not see why there would be any problem as long as the course is Biochem in the BIO department or CHEM department. I know that there is an introductory biochem and organic class for nursing majors at most community colleges and even some 4 year universities, so you might make sure you are taking the correct course.

Tufts does not take community college courses period. They may make exceptions on a case by case basis, but it is best to call them and check before you waste your money on application fees and interview fees only to have them tell you that you have to retake the course at a 4 year university.

I sent an email to their admissions office last night, explaining my situation... here's hoping they're willing to be lenient! 😱
