Hello All,

I was just curious if anyone knew any details regarding the MPH program at Tufts University School of Medicine. I am contemplating on applying to this program since I am currently working in the Boston area in the public health field and I desire to further my education in this area. Has anyone on this forum attended the program and would like share any insight? Has anyone applied to this program and is planning on attending?

Thanks!

hello,
i'm currently in this program so allow me to offer you my insight. i got accepted into all 8 schools/programs of public health i applied to, turning down in-state tuition and scholarships because of tufts reputation and affiliation with the medical school. biggest mistake of my life. the administration is awful, way too disjointed, no communication, stretched too thin and not responsible for paperwork. for funding, priority goes to the medical students in all aspects.

if you want my advice, go somewhere with state school tuition. the mph, as a stand alone degree, will only get you entry level jobs anyway, unless you get into harvard or johns hopkins. i had the option of going to a state school and doing the masters international and paid $10,000 for the degree. instead, i'm stuck with $70,000+ in loans and treated like crap at this university.

good luck, i hope you choose better than i did

Oh, wow... I am sorry to hear that. Thank you for your insight. I really was not expecting that response but thank you for your opinion. I guess I have a lot to think about.

Once again I am sorry to hear that your experience is not what you would have hoped for.

Hello Ktw387,

I know you are not to fond of the MPH program at Tufts but do you mind sharing which concentration you are in? Are you a full time or part time student? What made you choose Tufts initially? How would you describe the course load?

I am thinking about working full time and attending a MPH program part-time. If you can share anymore insight on the program that would be great.

Is there anyone else who have applied or attended the MPH program that would also like to offer their opinion. This is one of the schools I am applying to but is not talked about on this forum too much so I am trying to gather some information on it.

Thanks,

I applied to Tufts for the MPH Nutrition because you can cross register between the Medical School and Friedman School of Nutrition, which has a great reputation in the field. I applied because of the reputation of the school and the curriculum, which looks amazing, but I'm concerned by what ktw387 says as well...🙁

I was only referring to the MPH Program. The MS at the Friedman School of Nutrition is different and much, much better, I think ranked top 3 in the field. The Friedman School of Nutrition is separate from the School of Medicine (despite being right across the street and sharing classrooms), so the aims, fundings and priorities are different. You can definitely cross register; I'm taking an elective now at the nutrition school. Do the MPH at your own risk though, of the five or six MS/MPH students in my MPH classes, I know at least one individual who dropped the MPH segment. However, the dual degree does have it's advantages because you pay by semester, not by credits (MPH-only students pay by the credit).
