Hey guys!

I have been thinking of applying to the Tufts Adventure in Vet Med or the MSU Prevet Summer Enrichment program. I searched and didn't find a real "review" of either - especially not the MSU program. I was wondering if anyone had done either of these and could give me an idea on how helpful they were, what you did, what you liked about it/didn't like etc? The websites have info on them, but I'd love it if I could get an inside perspective!

I lovedddd AVM...did it back in high school.

I guess I don't have specific questions.. I was just kind of looking for what kinds of things people learned and what they thought they got out of it. I find the concept really intriguing and I was just looking for a personal view, I guess? Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like too many people have done the programs on these forums.

Really? I'm still friends with people from my AVM group...and that was back in...uhh 2004??

You basically get to go to some tutorials, get chats on the admissions process, and what it's like to be a vet student, few first year lectures, go on field trips to the zoo and aquarium, spend a few days on specialties you are interested in. It's pretty much a glimpse into vet school plus some added fun time. I highly recommend them if you are considering applying or are on the fence.

Pretty sure Tufts has it on their app asking if you attended.

I did AVM this past summer (and then applied this cycle). It was a lot of fun. As an Animal Science major, some of the material was a little monotonous, but there were a lot of animal handling experiences that were beneficial. The meetings with admission definitely helped with the application process, and overall things I learned during the program helped during vet school interviews. I decided not to apply to Tufts, but I have also heard that your chances of gaining admittance there increase if you do AVM. The cons to the program are the cost, and since housing isn't supplied for college students, you need to pay for a hotel as well. Hope this helped- feel free to PM me if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the replies! They are all really helpful. I didn't know the bit about Tufts asking on their application - since I do plan to apply to Tufts (which is how I found AVM), that's definitely a bonus. And learning more about the admissions process is always a bonus, especially interview help.. Because I have no idea what to expect. Sounds like I'll be applying! I figure that anything I can do to put myself out there is great, and I'm glad I've only heard positive things about the program.

I didn't know about the SGU program.. Another to add into the mix! I could definitely use a caribbean vacation, now that you mention it. 😛
