Figured we needed a place to figure out how much money we're going to be spending!! Though there is a tuition graph on AACOM's website, the cost of living can greatly affect how much students need to take out in loans. I was hoping people would post about the suggested/average budget various schools have (some schools make them easily available but some do not).

I haven't seen another thread like this, but if one already exists sorry!!

Thanks!!

I think it be easier just list the schools websites with this information. The only bad thing is this information will change every year so it might not be a good idea to compile a list if its changing so often. Plus the majority of schools all cost the same, saving grace some of the instate/out of state schools. Even then the OOS is on par with the avg DO school I think.

yes, i understand that, but schools such as PCOM do not have this information readily available. AZCOM and CCOM have them, but I can't seem to access them/download them. I know how hard it can be to navigate the websites, so i was just trying to help.

Ahah, now you're interested in my question about financial aid (ie: how much students take out in general, how much does the gov't aid usually) and tuition/fee (recent). I was the spark, the catalyst to your reaction.. muahaha!~

Anyways, yeah, the PCOM website is outdated as it states ~34k is the tuition/fees but according to a current PCOM student, it's ~39k. So I'm curious whether PCOM students take out ~60k/yr in loans.

this might be a great place to hear from actual students about cost of living (rent, utilities, food, transportation, ect) because we can get the tuition from the websites, but in my experience living expenses are just averages or best estimates.

Thanks!

How much do students work, if at all, during medical school? Anyone know anyone with a job and going to med school at the same time?

Here is the budget for DCOM. Obviously it is subject to change. The nice thing about the area is that housing and real estate taxes are pretty cheap, along with most other things. Overall, the budget is average for osteopathic schools in the country.

I don't know of any students (except for maybe one) who work during school b/c, quite honestly, there is just no time. So pretty much your only source of income is your student loans.

As for rental amounts, they vary from about $600 to $900 per month, depending on location, the house, and who you are renting it from. I've seen new, nice houses for cheaper than older homes, so it is kinda variable. But the spread above it pretty generous, so average $750 or so. As for food, whatever you typically pay for fast food is what you'll pay around here. Groceries can vary depending on where you shop. For example, in one store I bought a gallon of milk for $7 (I about fell over when I realized that) and just down the road I got a gallon for $4.50. But overall, at least compared to Chicago, prices are typically a bit cheaper. Gas is pretty cheap as well, about $2.70 the last I check for regular. That is about all I can think of right now. My brain has officially taken off the last 24 hours or so since our 2nd round of exams finished yesterday. Thank God those are over and I don't have to worry about them for another 4 weeks!!!
