Ill probably be moving in early August. I have to figure out the situation with my gf moving in with me and getting a car and where ill be. Theres a good chance ill be in deming, but if I can move uptown, that would be awesome. Lets all get a little SDN group together for Tulane 🙂Hello Fellow Classmates....
I was acepted to Tulane last month, but it has taken my awhile to get on here and post. Obviously from my screen name I am a girl and I am from Texas. Does anyone know if we are supposed to do anything besides send in a check and wait for the aceptance packet?
Also, the group consensus is live in uptown which is fine, but are most people living in houses or apartments? What about roomates?
Also, I currently live in a College town and we whine when we have too long of a walk from the parking lot...how is the parking situtation near the medical center and the commute from uptown?
Last question for right now... when is everyone moving to NO?
I hope to meet yall soon!
Im not sure, most of us here were accepted off the bat so Im not sure if we can speak about the waitlists. Ask samoa. and check in the pre-allo forums under Tulane Acceptance Range thread on page 3-4 somewhere (search for it). Waitlists typically dont move until May 15th and later. It didnt move alot in the past because generally the people accepted to Tulane stayed there, but who knows what it might be this year given the slow progress of government involvement in NO.I know this is for students but......... does anyone know it there's any wait list movement this year? I'm on the acceptance range and I'm dying to get in!!
During my visit, I found no problems with parking. There are several garages close to the buildings. I remember hearing some students mention it was $80/mo. but I'm not positive.Hello Fellow Classmates....

bonsai-
where in cali? i'm in the bay area until july.
Just curious on the avg weekend of someone at tulane, what do most of you guys do on the weekends (schedule wise)
did anyone have to choose between a state school and tulane? what made you give up in-state tuition and being close to home?
One reason why I plan to do residency in a whole other part of the country 🙂
Hey veg, where/wat are you doing your residency in? During the interviews did they express that they liked tulane students (ive always heard this when it comes match time)
Can you elaborate on some of the other, more pertinent reasons as to why you are making an exodus from the Big Uneasy for residency?
If you think your state school is best for you, awesome, go for it. But if it's only edging out other places b/c of the pricetag and you don't have extenuating circumstances (kids etc) I'd be careful about letting that be your deciding factor. Pricetag doesn't mean a whole lot if you aren't happy for a long 4 years.
Thanks. On a side note, anyone concerned about the high murder rate in N.O.?
Honestly no. It's like any other big city - avoid hanging with the rough crowd (generally I recommend no drug dealing), go out in groups at night downtown, and just use common sense.
The city's getting a lot of bad press lately b/c it makes for good news. I've never felt unsafe and feel that the crime here is just what comes with being in a city...
Does anyone know if the administration has decided whether to keep the P/F grading system for this year's incoming T1's? In my interview, I was told that they had yet to vote on whether they would keep it or not.
I'm going to chime in to second this.. while violent crime rates have gone up, the important point is that they haven't really spread. There are a few new locations that people have to stay clear of, but for the most part crime is confined to the same areas that had problems previously. The unsafe areas are pretty easy to recognize. I don't feel any less safe than I did pre-katrina, and I certainly don't feel any less safe than I would in any other big city.
There is a site that another SDner told me- www.somforum.comusually Tulane has a site with a message board for accepted students, does anyone know if that is up again this year?
...hit-and-runs are rites of passage, if you even get caught at all.

yea i contacted him already he said he would but he hasnt had a chance to yet since he just got back from vacation. Is there an administration affiliated one that we can access?
On the weekends I would: eat/drink/play poker at Harrah's (especially lucrative when conventions are in town)/play rugby/play anything at all/ride my bike up the levee/drink/eat/eat/eat/drink/go listen to music while drinking shortly after eating/etc.
1st and 2nd year I'd study on Sundays with football on in the background, with more studying and less screwing around during Step 1 season. 3rd year during inpt rotations your style gets pretty cramped, but there's still plenty of room for various shenanigans. And 4th year is every bit the glorious bastion of laziness it's made out to be.
Hey quick Q- Im going to obviously need to purchase a car next year- did you guys buy one in new orleans? How did you finance for one?
I dont know about financing but from what I've seen here this isnt the best place to buy a car....![]()
Oh I just mean that from browsing the paper I havent seen the best deals (nothing like those gigantic dealerships in places like houston)...and as far as buying used cars here I'd be really worried about rust! I dont know, maybe its just me.
