Type of research?

I am a current P1 looking to get into research as soon as possible to build up my CV. What types of research look good on your CV for residency programs? I've heard of terms like MUE and PT research but looking them up doesn't give me too much info.

Also I am going to talk to a clinical faculty for research. Is that the best way to get into it?

Yes, definitely talk to clinical faculty about it. Most will be working on some sort of research project and will probably have ideas for other projects as well. Also ask upperclassmen what they did.
