Types of Exams

This is probably an ignorant question, but what are these types of exams that I hear about different schools having? Shelf exam? Block exam? ....

I have no idea what types of exams there are. Anybody know what the differences are?

One has to do with scheduling the other deals with the source.

Block exams schedules will have x amount of weeks of classes and then a 'block' of exams in all of those classes

Shelf exams, I believe, are standardized exams (multpile choice) that are given at many different schools and cover a standard block of material, not nexessarly everything that may/maynot have been covered in lectures

I have not had any experiences with a bock exam schedule nor shelf exams.
