when i was at the interview they told me it would take 3 weeks to hear a reply. Almost 7 weeks later, i get a reply. they are really really slow this year. hang in there. is anyone who got in actually going?

I am instate for Maryland too and my application was complete in mid-October. I know they have been taking their time, but I know of some people whose LORs got there after mine and they have already been invited for interview. This process is interesting....🙁

Yes, exactly my point!

I was complete 10/20.. Boo Maryland... 🙁

They are interviewing through March, so they will be sending out invites through Feb. I heard they lost some important office people and are running unusually slow, even for them. But still - I have a competative application, am in-state.. thought they'd love to have me.. I guess you really cant expect anything in this process.

haha oops... yeah i am being ignored by maryland too and i don't really understand it. oh well. i could send them a letter of interest but i'm not willing to send them any kind of letter of intent to get an interview. it seems silly that i would have to do that for my state school anyways! who isn't interested in in-state tuition?

Well... I sent them an email saying that I would love to go to UMD and am looking forward to interviewing, and 10 days later, I got an invite.
I'm not sure my email worked or not, but at least it didn't hurt me. 😀

I mailed out a letter of interest yesterday.. here's to hoping for an interview..

bumpety bump

In state complete 10/20.. got in touch w/Maryland today. Apparently I was in line to be invited for an interview, but somehow it never happened.. so they are going to fix that soon (Monday I guess?)

I did send an update email - Someone else had luck with that too.. so for those of you still waiting to hear anything, its worth a shot! GL!

That's great news, KaraKiz. Did they say when you would have your interview?

no, they havent sent the email yet with all of the scheduling info, but I know they interview through the end of March.

did anyone else (post-interview) get a letter today from maryland saying that they "are not able to make a final decision at this time" and that "your application will continue to be reviewed periodically until a final deicison is made"? any idea if this is bad news, or just "we know it's been forever since you've interviewed, so just chill"?

Hey y,

I haven't gotten one yet (as I haven't interviewed yet) but I did get one of those last year. The letter means that you've been placed on the waitlist. Sorry about that 🙁 In May, you should hear where you are in general on the waitlist (top half or bottom half). Not that many were pulled off the waitlist, maybe two or three that I know of from SDN.

Just wondering if there has been any recent Maryland activity. I interviewed this week, and am hoping to find out about a decision in early/mid-March.

:luck:

so i sent a letter of interest sometime last week and i got the interview invite this morning. it's about time.

I also got an invite this morning for Feb 26. Yay! 🙂 IS, complete 10/20. I sent an update out two weeks ago.

Well MininMD, to be honest, I don't know if I'm comfortable meeting someone I met on the internet... lol j/k! Congrats on the invite! I'm pretty excited. Are you also a UMCP person btw?

See you on the 26th! 🙂

Nope - I'm up in Boston at Tufts.

I figure some folks who check the UMD thread are UMCP ppl, so all I wanted to say was F*ck Duke! 😀

Man, they are REALLY behind this year - last year I got an invite to interview on March 1st at the end of January. Congrats you guys on the interviews! I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for one as well.

Scratch my previous post - I just got an interview invite as well! Mine is for 3/7. Anyone else going on that day? Good luck to everyone! :luck:

So ive been reading the interview feedback for MD. It sounds pretty laid back. Anyone who already interviewed have any suggestions/tips on what to expect? I know a few of us with upcoming interviews would really appreciate it.. =)

For those of you that sent them...what do you write in the update/intent letters? and do you send them by email or regular mail??

Email Dr Foxwell or the admissions office. Keep the letter very brief. Say you havent heard anything, and you really want to go to Maryland and are looking forward to interviewing there. You can toss in a few lines about updates, but keep the whole thing short. If they are going to interview you, it seems like its about a 10 d to 2 week turn around time for an invite. But get your email out ASAP! They stop sending out invites at the end of Feb I think. GL! Let us know how it turns out!:luck:

i snail mailed a letter that basically said i'm still doing well in school, and that i was very interested in maryland and would like the chance to interview there.

i mailed the letter last tuesday and got the invite today so that's a pretty quick turn around.

Awesome. I sent a letter like that early lastweek and I'm hoping to get an invite this week. 🙂 I'm OOS and was complete in late October if that means anything.

Has anyone with a January or February interview received a decision recently? I interviewed early February. Just wondering how long it's been taking.

Was anyone else really surprised at their interview? I knew Maryland was a good school but I was pretty impressed.

MiniMD - I def recognized you on Monday! You were the only Tufts person there.. lol - I was the girl in the black suit with a green shirt and black hair who talks too much..

I totally agree. Their hospital and facilities were awesome. I was really surprised too (especially when we saw a headless cadaver in the anatomy lab), and the stairs in the library were amazingly loooooooooooooong.

Their interview day is quite laid back. They give you a big packet of stuff, and then they give you a map which will guide you to where you interviews are. This is the only downside, because Maryland is HUGE, and if I didn't have a lady in the admissions office guide me to my first one, I'm sure I would have been late. After that, then you have a financial aid talk by a nice lady, a talk with Dr. Foxwell and current students, then a tour with the students.

I liked maryland initially because it was in my home state, but after my interview, I LOVED IT. The facilites are great (especially shock trauma), their teachers are amazing (I interviewed with the professor of urology), their students are happy, their schedule is amazing (lecture for 2 hours, and all lectures are video recorded and put online), etc. If things work out that I can go to UMD, I'll be there in a heart beat, even if it had to drop more highly ranked schools (I don't) over them. Its just a great school.

i was impressed by maryland too.. both of my interviewers were extremely nice and the facilities were great. actually, i think what impressed me the most, is that maryland was the only school to have an interviewer tell me about a fellowship that i could do in medical school that is pretty much perfect for me - and this was my 7th interview. the profs there really seem to be focused on helping the students get what they want out of their education.

Lol.. it's those long library stairs that sold me.. I just stood there and gaped at them.

LOL. I know. I"m so lame. After the tour when everything was done. I walked back to the library, lied to the guard at the desk in order to get in, and sat down in one of the chairs up stairs. Its funny though, because by this time next year, I will probably hate the library, and those bloody long stairs.

Cakebaker, i interviewed end of jan, got decision late feb, so maybe soon?

and yes i was very impressed w/ maryland
jay, u will be going there?
karakiz too - any news?
sorry i don't post often, i'm one of those selfish ones that just read read read

Hey didn't you desert us somewhere in the middle? in the other forum I mean.. i thought you said you decided against Maryland.. are you back in the winners wagon 😉?
Are you looking for housing yet?.. I'm too lazy and I'm starting to feel like I'm late

Thanks drkox11, and congrats on the acceptance! 👍 Maybe I'll find out today or tomorrow (I heard from another SDNer that the committee meets every Monday).

No news here DrKox. My interview was two weeks ago, so I figure I've still got some waiting to do. Congratulations on your acceptance!! I'll def post when I find out.

GL to everyone waiting to hear back!! :luck:

I had my interview on 2/21, and I got one of those letters saying that they "are not able to make a final decision at this time" and that "your application will continue to be reviewed periodically until a final deicison is made" last saturday (3/10).
It was originally mailed out on last thursday (3/8).
So they are really working quickly lately.
I guess I'm semi-waitlisted and I have to wait until late may.
Oh well, I guess I need to consider reapplying now, since maryland was my last hope.
Anyway, good luck for the rest of you, and I hope my case somewhat cleared up about post-interview decision timeline. =)

Well, with my fiancee interviewing at HU SOM, I have a renewed hope that I may come to UMD. We scouted out some places midway b/w UMD and HU but we haven't look for real. I think real efforts will take place in late april or may.

oh yeah everyone. Maryland is truly have some personel troubles. Their director for recruitment went to hopkins, another person in the office is on life support at the hospital for pneumonia, and dr. foxwell had to go to the hospital for a spell because he was having heart problems; also the lady right under dr. foxwell just recently died from liver cancer (or some type of cancer). I'm not sure how many of these people have been replaced yet, but I can definetly see how this would slow down the process. Continue to have faith!!!

Check out Howard County - Columbia was built on the concept that a lot of couples / families have one person working in DC and the other in Baltimore.

Is anyone else on the post-interview list that "no decision has been made at this time?.... No acceptance, waitlist or rejection"?

What does this mean? Has anyone gotten an acceptance after this letter?
thanks

Invites are definitely not done at maryland. i just got an interview invitation for wed, march 28th. i got the email invite on march 17th i think. man, i
'm really happy to have the chance to interview at maryland, but at the same time, i realize that this is a really late interview. i had a few questions that i was wondering if anyone could help me out with:

1.) is the class at maryland full by this time and are late interviews for the waitlist only? i was just wondering since it's at the dead end of the cycle.

2.) is there a realistic chance of getting off the waitlist at maryland if you are in the upper half?

thanks in advance for your help! good luck to everyone 😳)

I had a classmate interview with Maryland at the last minute last year and she was still accepted. Most schools don't specifically interview for waitlist spots. That is a waste of their time and resources. You still have a shot of getting in.

Good luck!!!!

thanks for your advice, and yay to you for quoting gandhi! you rock 😳)

So I interviewed on January 31st and still have not heard back. I called a week ago and they told me I should get the decision within the next two weeks so I am just waiting until the end of next week. But I was wondering if anyone else that interviewed that day or later has heard back yet?

Interviewed 2/26 and the large envelope came today (though I haven't seen it yet - it came to my parents house in Baltimore County and they opened it for me).

I finally got the envelope today!!
Interviewed on 1/29 and got into the MD/MPH program! 😀
just wanted to thank all of you who replied to my previous message!!

also, did you guys get financial aid information (ie. scholarships) with the acceptance letter or did it come later??

thanks again 😀

Anyone who interviewed in March recall the timeline they mentioned with respect as to when we would hear back? Thanks in advance.
