Hi everyone,

I just received a letter from University of Missouri. The letter states that for Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Hawaii candidates, the avg GPA is 3.0 and DAT AA avg of 16 in order for consider for an interview.

For all other states, GPA of 3.0 and DAT AA of 20 in order to consider for an interview.

I only have a 18 on my DAT AA. Does that mean I will not get an interview and which implies that I am automatically rejected? Does anyone know anything about it? I am really worried.

omg... i got that letter too! i don't have a 20, but they still asked for money!!

I got the same letter last year and was rejected. I think it pretty much means they won't consider your application unless you retake the DAT and score at least a 20AA. Don't sweat it though, there are plenty of schools who take applicants with less than 20AA.

I got the same letter as well...(very poorly written I might add)

I left Dr. Killip a message so I'm expecting a call back. I only have an 18AA, so I'll let you know what he says.

I have a cousin attending there currently so I'm hoping that I can at least get a foot in the door with the family tie, but out of state acceptance is tough. There are only 3 out of state students in the 2010 class and my cousin is one of them.

The deal w/ umkc is that it has some sort of deal w/ those states to accept so many people from each one. So, that doesnt leave very many spots (not sure how much, could be as lil as 1 or 2 spots?) open, and therefore you have to be very competitive to even be considered. However, i dont think it doesnt mean they wont atleast look at your application.

that sucks! i dont think i will pay the fee since i will get rejected anyways. might as well save the money. 🙁....maybe i should retake my DAT?

There's two people from Hawaii there in that year...so your cousin is the only other out of stater? That seems odd since UMKC is supposed to give preference to those other states as well.

Maybe he meant that there are only three from other states besides the preferred states of: Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Hawaii? He is a resident of Idaho, I'll see if I can find out more info from him.

I just got off the phone with Dr. Killip. I called to ask about the minimum requirement of 20-AA, but he really didn't answer me. Instead he asked me what state I claimed residency in and I told him Utah. He then acted like our conversation was over when he said, "Well we will only be interviewing applicants from the states of Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Hawaii. As for the application fee, I'm not allowed to give advise as to whether it would be a waste of money for you."
Gee thanks, I'm writing out the check as we speak...👎
In a last minute plea I told him I wasn't aware of the 5 state bias, but was interested in the school because I had heard very good things from my cousin who was currently attending there. He knew my cousin well and understood where I was coming from, but essentially said "sorry, you're out of luck." My cousin must have caught the admissions committee on a really good day. He did have a 22-AA though.
So this is a warning to all of you who applied from the other 45 states. I wouldn't bother sending the application fee if I were you. Hopefully the other schools we applied to will actually look over our application and not determine our fate by which state our parents chose to live.

ooh man. thanks for the news. wish us all of luck at other schools, since doesnt seem like i will have a chance at missouri 🙁
