I found out that I was in the middle 1/3 in Mid-May, but a rejection followed shortly after that. I am OOS. That could be why though.

Yes, that's very odd. I interviewed in early November, so I guess that's considered early. But, I mean from the middle 1/3 to a rejection seems a bit strange to me. I agree the process is so random.

hey guys, i know someone who recently withdrew, good news for the middle 1/3 🙂
 
i wish they would at least tell us where in the list we are so that we can somewhat follow along and know when to expect a call...

i just checked my status page and started to freak out cuz it said no action while just a few days ago it said waitlist... i thought i had been rejected too!! but i went back and read the whole status page and realized that they loaded a new application for the new app cycle...

very much relieved...

Man, these threads are going to be so helpful for the people on next year's waitlist.
 
I wonder if anyone knows how the final ranking is determined? Does it have anything to do with your GPA and MCAT score? I heard that the comittee gives a score to you based your interview, that is the final ranking. It sounds like your GPA and MCAT do not play any role at all in the final ranking and once people are invited to the interview, everyone is at the same level. Is that true??? Thanks for your reply in advance!
 
Did anyone know the waitlist movement from other first tier school? Is that why UB waitlist so slow this year? Anybody followed last year waitlist thread? How is this year's progress compare to last years?

UB had 25% more applications this year. Is that the case for most schools that there is an increase in applications to med school in general or is it just UB?

i actually chose UB over a higher ranked school because I liked UB alot better when I interviewed, and also because of the tuition. maybe because alot of other med schools are hiking up tuition to ridiculous amounts, people are choosing UB? total speculation here
 
no news? yet--i keep hoping to hear some chatter on this forum.

i think they are waiting until they get a group of folks to call and offer acceptances to (i don't think it is a tuesday thing...just a random more than two people thing)

it is not even july --just keep that in mind if there is no news posted today.
 
I am applying for 2008 cycle but have been following yall's thread for a few days know. I think its great how all the movement is kept track of. Good luck to everyone and hopefully there is a repeat of last Tuesday.
 
Our thread has been very silent for the past few days... they must be on 4th of July vacation 🙄 It's so hard to wait these days... what are you guys doing to pass the time?

Same here... I have tear stains on my MCAT books :laugh: saaaaadddddd. WERE IN JULY!!! I've been checking the facebook group everyday to see if the number of members increase!

i just talked to jeff and they are open this week, just closed on wednesday. i asked him how the movement was going. he said its been alternating between really slow to steady, and that there has been movement today. so we just haven't seen it on sdn.

humm...question is how much movement. I really do hope they get to all the middle 1/3 and at least some of the bottom third. I just cant seem to get myself to study for the MCATs again. How are you guys doing it. IE. whats your motivation?

good luck to you too...with me, I open up my mcat books, and I have written all over them. i have done all the practice tests on my books. I felt really prepared first time I took it, but I guess not. I really dont know what I can do to improve my score. I also don't like that feeling...
 
yeah i'm getting pretty discouraged by not seeing any progress. i took the mcat 3 times so i don't think i'll be taking it again, just reapplying. i don't know if i could face that test even once more. good luck toxicgate!
 
Well, I just retook the exam in June. I guess it helped to focus on retaking the exam rather than thinking about the wait list, so I guess my motivation was distraction, as well as worrying about getting off the wait list. Now I am just wondering when I should start to reapply because I don't want to spend all that money and get accepted, but I also don't want to wait too long to reapply.

Any advice on that?

I'm in the same boat. I really don't have the money to toss at AMCAS right now until I know that I haven't gotten in. So I'm going to take my chances and wait until August 6th, then reapply. In any case, taking the mcat, reapplying and working a full time job isn't something I think I can realistically deal with all at once at the moment.
 
Drgeorge, submit AMCAS with one school so that it is verified within a month, we should all know about buffalo within in that time and once its verified, add other schools. It wont take long for those secondaries to come along since you have been verified with the primary. That's what I'm doing. I'm going to submit AMCAS on July 5th. With that, I would assume it would be complete sometime in early August and then I'll add more schools after that.

Thanks!! That's really good advice. I forgot that it takes forever to verify. Guess I should work on rewriting a personal statement!! Good luck to everyone retaking the MCATS....btw, I prefer the computerized version (not that it matters cause it's staying), anyone else like the upgrade? Just curious and looking for conversation 🙂.
 
I'm rooting for you guys so don't give up hope and best of luck on the MCAT's for anyone re-taking!

Guess its not =/. Hopefully after the holiday we'll see some movement.
 
we cant loose hope now. We still have 5 weeks left for movement on SDN to occur (there is supposed movement though, im guessing we are just close together on the waitlist). It's not like there has been no movement this past week. In fact, what's happening is that they are getting days with very little movement (like 1 or 2 a day) and then there are other days where there is a whole lot movement. I like how there are actually still days where there is a lot of movement. On a side note, when i called before (such as last week and the week before) they would not even mention anything about the bottom 1/3, BUT now, they said that we are in the middle 1/3, and we haven't approached the bottom 1/3. I find that a good sign being as though they are starting to talk about the bottom 1/3. Take it as you want, but i'm sure as hell not giving up hope (not until the 2nd day of classes that is) but not anytime soon. 🙂

Just wondering for all of the "bottom-third moved to middle third" people. Is anyone on this list people who moved up in Nov, Dec or Jan (when the list was still not even close to being done yet). Just wondering if I should get my hopes up.

I got moved up sometime in the last month or so before the list was finalized. I also interviewed in September. I don't know if it means anything!

Well another week has gone by...Its now been three weeks in the middle third. Let's hope that next week is our week.

Hope more good news will come your way soon....it's crazy how i'm so excited to go back to school. always hated school but after working several years, I find school a much better option. Looks like they are moving deeper and deeper so let's wait for more calls to come. surely more people will drop out and open more spots! GOOD LUCK :luck:

Haha, I'm alternating between excitement, dread, and horrible unending anxiety that gets into my dreams and sleep.

Seriously, I used to be a pretty good sleeper that could sleep 9 hours regularly, and more than that if I'd been up for a while.

This last week or so it's been like 6 hours, 7 hours, 12 hours (I was reaaally exhausted from the gym), 4 hours, 7 hours...and I've been having the most idiotic nightmares.

One of my nightmares involved that there was a pre-requisite for medical school of a golf class, and I had blew off the golf class since I figured I could just pass the golf exam and be fine. Turns out I had missed the golf exam and now I was going to flunk golfing and not be able to go to med school.

Then last night I think my dream largely consisted of me planning out how to move to Buffalo until the anxiety built so much I just woke up. Ugh.
