I recently graduated from UC Berkeley with Biology major and am trying to apply for 2010

I have really really low gpa (2.4🙁) due to family issues during my soph/junior years but explained reasons on my personal statement.

Do you think I have a chance of getting into a pharmacy school?

where should I apply????

I don't think even the upstart Pharmacy schools will look at you with a 2.4

Furthermore, I thought you couldn't apply for your Bachelor's from a UC with a GPA <2.5.

OH I CAN'T EVEN APPLY??? 😱
WHAT IF I TAKE A COUPLE CLASSES DURING THE SUMMER AND APPLY DURING AUGUST OR SEPTEMBER....?

look into schools with academic forgiveness - you will need to retake classes

you should contact pharmcas and specific schools about your situation.

I retro-dropped a couple classes.

Should I still put those classes on PharmCAS website?

Whatever is on your UCB transcript should be entered into pharmcas. Ds, Fs, and Ws.

Some of these schools get 1000+ applicants and seeing that the average GPA for the incoming class is almost always above a 3.0, you may want think about raising your GPA before applying this cycle.

I can't speak for non-PharmCAS schools but I have yet to see a pharmacy school with a minimum GPA requirement below a 2.5.

Really? I never heard that and I graduated from a UC. I was told that you needed to meet all the required classes with a grade of at least a C. Maybe they changed it since I graduated?

I thought you only need a 2.0 GPA in order to graduate and earn at least a C in all required classes for your major?
*******
Anyhow to the OP, I would retake the classes at a CC (strive for A's) and maybe look into schools that offer academic forgiveness. I don't know if a couple of classes will make a difference in your GPA, but I personally would want to spend a year retaking as many classes as I can. I notice that there are a number of people who have gotten accepted with a GPA of 2.8-2.9, but with a high PCAT score.

You guys are right, it's 2.0, my mistake. I could be snide and say I never had to pay that close attention to it because my lowest grade at UCD was a single B, but I wouldn't do that.

To the OP, a CC is probably your best bet, especially here in California. There are some excellent CCs in the bay area, if you're staying around there. Also, though, there is CSU North Bay, if you want to try to complete a 2nd Bachelor's degree or something of that nature.

It's going to be a really, really, really long road. With in the neighborhood of ~200 credit hours, even multiple semesters of 4.00 GPAs will barely dent that 2.4. That said, if you can get it to 2.6 or 2.7 (Play with GPA calculators) and have a 3.5+ sGPA, you should be... okay-er. Were you an A/B student before and after those two harsh years due to family problems?

Keep in mind that if you're applying to CA schools, undergraduate GPA is a strong metric that is used for determining admission, as the PCAT is not a required exam for entrance to any of our schools.

Much luck...

Your GPA will need work - and please - do not explain your low GPA in your personal statement - there are other places on the application to explain things.

Your personal statement is your introduction to the ADCOM - it is the first thing we read about you. Telling us all of your worst attributes up front is akin to: Picking up a girl at a bar, and at the same time sharing your comicbook collection of 10000+ and your room plastered with posters etc... This is something you may want to hold off telling right away.

Spend sometime on SDN doing some research. Definitely look at the FAQ and older threads discussing low GPA.

Actually, the Molecular Cell Biology department at Berkeley will accept as low as a D- for any classes, as long as your overall GPA and MCB GPA is above a 2.0 (otherwise you're on probation). I'm not sure how it is at other UC's, but that's how it is for Berkeley.

OP, were you MCB or IB?
