Haha, yes, we are the awe-faced n00bs of Fundamental Immunology (PMI 126). I think I'd appreciate the classroom even more if it wasn't so early in the morning. Lymphocytes would definitely be more captivating in a beer commercial....

YES! Not to mention the car-wreck/blood splatter analogy for electron collision and and silhouette production via x-ray photons.... amazing that he made that work. I'll NEVER forget it now 😀.

p.s. for anyone concerned about class size/not getting enough individual instruction in a class of 130+ students, our lab today consisted of 9 of us getting an hour long lecture, then doing some radiology case studies and finally taking radiographs of a horse. I <3 Davis.

Yes! I can only be early on the mornings when I can pull myself out of bed at six in the morning and go to pilates before class. I'm trying to find inventive ways to stay awake in class--any suggestions?
 
3 weeks everybody, for interview invites! Is anyone else going out of their mind?
I need a distraction, and sadly the classes I'm in aren't enough. I feel like a zombie for vet school..instead of brains all I think about it getting into vet school. Ha ha. Zombies terrify me, I have dreams that zombies are chasing me. I must be so annoying to everyone around me right now!
 
I'm anxiously waiting. I'm OOS though so it'll probably be bad news...🙁

I chew gum! keeps me moving a little? doesn't work on the worst days, though. I became a coffee-drinker when I started having to get up early, too.

I think I mentioned somewhere earlier in this thread (or maybe it was last year's thread idk..) that they interviewed about 25 OOS applicants a couple of years ago.

But hey, welcome to the elite club of people who get to start the line for a school on a rejection/interview/acceptance list. The rejection from Illinois is my claim to fame this year, I was a close runner up for Ohio too.

Don't worry you're not alone! I got an email too. Also out of state. I'm a little suprised I didn't get an interview but overall okay with it. Now I don't have to worry about last minute flights and trying to make it to the workshop! Onwards and upwards 🙂
 
I wonder if they're sending out all the rejection emails now?

I'm actually very glad that they did, because I couldn't plan my trips to go see my birdies in CO until I heard back from Davis! I think it was very considerate of them for telling me now. Also I would've become very jaded had I gotten an interview, spent a grand to make a trip out there, and THEN got rejected! Now I don't have to worry as much about choosing a school with high tuition because I won't have the super cheap IS Davis tuition staring me in the face (esp when I absolutely despise California)!

Anyhoos, good luck for everyone who's in-state, and even more so for those waiting oos! :luck:

P.S. I love how they tack on the "Please be assured that your application received a fair and careful evaluation in comparing your qualifications with other applicants to our program." as though people should be suspicious. How very typical UC of them! Reminds me exactly why I bolted out of state as soon as I had the chance for college.
 
I'm pretty sure that my post-interview rejection had that same sentence in it.

Sorry to hear about the rejection, Minnerbelle, even if you hate it here. 😉

aww thanks nyan! i'm really not very bummed about it at all so no worries though. i tend to be a champion rejection taker! my attitude toward rejections is "well i'm too damn good for you anyway f***ers!" :meanie:

now, if Davis doesn't take YOU this year... i might have to make a trip out there just to punch someone in the nose!

I just got my rejection email (OOS). Oh well. I'm glad I got it now rather than later.
 
I'm sorry to hear about those of you that didn't get good news 🙁 I can't say that I understand a whole lot about the application process even after going through it.
For those of you still waiting - good luck!!! :luck: I know our class is starting to get really excited to see you guys come through and visit/interview! I'll be at the Interview Workshop and I'm excited to see everyone and then to get a "little sib" once acceptances go out 😀

Feel free to PM me, I just don't go on SDN that often right now due to lack of activity since interview offers seem to have not gone out yet and Winter quarter being the hardest one of the year. That reminds me - if we all look a little dazed when you guys come for the interview workshop it's just bc winter quarter is draining, but we REALLY DO LOVE IT here!!! 😍😍😍

Im working on my stream line caffine invention, but until then I keep myself awake and my ADD somewhat in line by alternating between my notes and the dumb games I play on facebook. On really bad class I started making my flash cards while my professor is going through the slides (I use an online flashcard program)
 
For some reason, I thought Davis invites were next week. Bah! 🙁

Just looked back and it looks like I got my invite on the 11th last year. That's less than a week away! 😀

The 2013ers might be a bit quiet around here for the next few days because we are all about to take (errm ROCK) our dreaded and infamous cardio final. But good luck everyone!!!!:luck::xf:
 
Just finished watching the interview workshop webcast, and it made me very excited! Anyone know what the paperwork they collected at the end was? A survey?

nyanko i totally saw your pink hair walking into scrubs about 2 days ago, but i was far away, and with a gang of rowdy boys, so wasn't able to say hi or anything. ohhhhhhh well.

ps several of the rowdy boys are on the interview workshop panel, as well as my housemate. and i will be around helping in some capacity on the day of. this is going to be hi-larious. oh and at least one other sdn'er is on the panel, but i'll let her reveal herself if she wants to.😉

$20 says they start sending out invites on Friday (...not that I have $20 to bet)

There are quite a few of us SDNers involved in the interview workshop panel - kinda funny! We'll have a lot of fun and hopefully see all of you there!

I know! I decided about a month and a half ago that I wasn't going to shave my legs until I heard from Davis. Well, that ended this morning. I couldn't take it anymore! I figure that my fate has already been determined anyway, so running around with hairy legs won't help (not really sure why I thought it would in the first place, just a distraction perhaps).
It would be cool to meet some SDNers there! Nyanko are you going? I take it you will be easy to spot! I will be the one there in a chicken suit, so y'all can say 'hi' if you want. 😉

If I get an interview, I will go to the workshop and orientation. If I don't, I will probably skip the workshop as I have to fly out to Ames the next day for a Ph.D. fellowship interview.



Oh yeah, Pomona/starlene, I'm housemates with someone from the class of 2013, too. Good luck on your cardio final - I'm surprised so many of you first years are posting! 😉

(If you don't get an interview I think the rest of us should protest at the workshop, we can all wear shirts with your picture on them and carry signs, not sure yet what they would say)
 
Does anyone know if they will be conducting interviews on Saturdays and Sundays, or just weekdays between Feb. 22 and March 12? I'm an in state student, but flying from St. Louis, so I'm starting to think about plans pre-emptively . . .
 
Isn't this a three day weekend because of presidents day? So when davis says we will hear the week of February 15th do they really mean starting tuesday?
