(As a disclaimer, after searching on here, the last post about UC Davis students was from 5 years ago). 🙂

Any current UC Davis pre vet students out there? I will be transferring in as a junior this fall. :soexcited:

I will be starting vet school there this fall 🙂

Our first day is August 12th. We start a lot earlier than you guys! >.>

Are you super excited? 😀 Was Davis your first choice? Have you thought about where you will live?

Given UC Davis' new set-up as far as criteria and evaluation of grades go, I'll probably be applying here in a couple years.

What is everyone's living situation at Davis going to be?

Sorry if I'm hijacking. Feel free to tell me to buzz off. 😛

Just joined SDN - woot woot! I'm going to be starting at Davis this August and wanted to get a thread going for all the incoming students. Looks like I found one here 🙂

Anyway, speaking of living situations, I'll be commuting from the Contra Costa area (have to coordinate with my soon to be husband who is a resident physician in Oakland but will be commuting to Stanford for Fellowship in 2014). Anyone else have a lengthier commute? Bonus if you live in my area and we can carpool!

So excited to meet you all!

I haven't found a place to live yet. One possible room mate is meeting with somebody next week, and if that doesn't work out then I get a chance at her open room. No guarantees though : /

I'm looking for a place in Davis (preferably west Davis), and I don't care if it's in an apartment, house, condo, whatever. In the end I can't be picky though, so who knows, I may end up being a commuter too Ablake 🙂

I had considered commuting from the Santa Cruz area, but one of the techs from my work did that (she did undergrad at Davis) and said it burned her out quick. Granted it's a 3 hour drive, assuming there's no traffic. 😛 Not sure how far it is from Oakland area...?

If you are looking at commuting, try Dixon. It's cheaper than Davis and really pretty. At least the little bit that I saw when we visited at Christmas. 🙂

I don't go to Davis but I've been there many times. I would say if you can't find a place in the Davis area (it's higher there anyway) your best bet would be Dixon, Rancho Cordova, Loomis or the Sacramento area in general. If you live in sac/rancho Cordova you can always take the light rail to the train and it drops you off in Davis.

Oh and there's a bus that takes you around campus although I'm not sure if it goes to the vet school... Probably have to check on that.

Wow! And I thought Pleasant Hill was far enough 😱

My commute will be about 45 mins each way so not TOO bad (great time to catch up on my podcasts!). Anyone thinking of moving to, or already living in, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Concord or Martinez - let's chat carpooling!

Also, anyone happen to know if we get free parking access as vet students? Or if there's a particular parking structure we're supposed to use?

Aaaaaand, in the interest of getting all my questions off my chest, anyone have insight into our supposed daily schedules? Heard someone mention classes should start at 8am and end around 2pm...?

Just FYI, you will absolutely need to move closer when you start clinics. You're on call quite a bit, and you cannot live further than 15-20 minutes away. And 45 minutes is going to feel really terrible some days, especially when you factor in traffic. That being said, I do recommend living somewhere other than Davis. I save over $200/month AND have literally twice as much space + washer/dryer in unit by living in Sacramento over Davis. And I lived in one of the cheapest apartments I could find in Davis. College town = Jack up the prices. Dixon and Woodland are also good options.

We do not get free parking. There are multiple parking lots around the school and hospital, but a parking pass is ~$400 for the year.

I can't answer your questions about the daily schedule, since the curriculum has been completely overhauled.

$400, ouch! Is that for vet med only, or does it apply for undergrad students as well?

Nothing is free at UC Davis. Nothing. Well, maybe the blows to the self esteem. They don't charge money for those, just part of your soul.

Yup, figured as much but thanks for the FYI. I asked that question during the MMIs and was told a good rule of thumb for 4th year is a 15min radius although it's not required. I'll probably have to rent a room for 4th year to stay in during the week/weekends I'm on call (something I'm considering doing 1-3rd year as well just in case the commute gets crazy).

Did anyone apply for the barn residency program?

.

Does anyone know the questions they asked from last years UC Davis supplemental app?

I saw that Washbucket responded to your question in the other thread Cuabbo, and she's right. The supplemental is really easy 🙂

I've found a place to live, with 2 other vet students in west Davis. Nice to finally have that done!
I need to get proof of my TdaP sent out, and I need to buy a parking permit. Other than that I'm basically good to go.

Supposedly our computers are supposed to be coming in soon. I can't wait to get mine!

When is everyone else planning on moving in? I'm tentatively aiming for wednesday the 7th, so that I'll have a couple days to settle in before classes start.

I am one of the residents at the swine facility. PM me if you have questions.
