I just got an interview invite, time was 5:04pm EST. I can't wait to visit Cali! VA girl do you think its worth flying out to CA twice to attend the orientation? It sounds like a great day (and an advantage). Many thanks to the 1st years for putting it together.

when you guys call to schedule your interviews tomorrow, you should try to ask the lady if she knows how many more invites are going out! So stressful!!! Congrats though to everyone! Looks like a bunch of invites went out today!

Yay! Just got home and found an invite in my inbox!!! 😀

Good luck to everyone who hasn't heard yet. :luck::xf:
This process is seriously like a rollercoaster ride.

By the way, in case anyone is interested or trying to anticipate scheduling issues, this is what the first part of the letter says:

"Interviews are a critical component of our evaluation process and are required of all applicants being considered for admission to our DVM program. This year, we received 1135 applications for admission to the Class of 2013. Approximately 220 of the most competitive applicants will interview for one of the 131 positions available

Interviews will begin Monday, February 23 and will end Friday, March 13. Interviews will be held Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m."

Good luck!

I don't know...it was a really good session, but flying out twice is pricey. I'd just try to schedule your interview on the first day they're interviewing, which is the Monday right after the Saturday info session. The only real down side to that is it means you have to wait a whole month after interviewing to hear the outcome.

I just got home to an invite as well. What a relief.

:luck::luck::luck::luck: for the peeps still waiting.

Joining the UCD Interview Gang!!

Unfortunately I will be in Chicago preparing for my UIUC interview on the 21st so I will be missing orientation, but I have some 1st year friends and I'm hoping they can answer all my questions and give me the dirt on Davis Vet Med 😀.

Good luck everyone!

Still nothing...🙁😡+pity+

got an interview today too! congrats to everyone and good luck to everyone still waiting to hear.🤣

i'm nervous for the interview now...

Alright!!! Congratulations and good luck with your interviews everyone!

I'm also willing to help with any questions about Davis in general or anything, can't answer as much about the vet school curriculum itself like VAGirl can, but I've lived here since Sept 2007, have worked in the VMTH and currently work with a professor in the SVM for my MS, and Davis is awesome. 😀

Also, the orientation was really cool last year, if it's at all possible for you to make it, I highly recommend going!

Yay! An interview! I was bummed this morning when I got waitlisted at Iowa but now I'm excited 😀 For those of you who can't make the orientation day, it appears like they can accommodate tours on your interview day, but only by request. I may live in CA (I even have family in Sacramento) but I've never toured their facilities. I think it really matters how the school "feels" to you (it doesn't hurt to imagine yourself in the surgery suite, either)!

I also got an interview! Hooray! Congrats to everyone else who got an invite today and good luck to those still waiting to hear!

got my interview invite today! never thought this day would come! congrats to everyone else! 😀

I think I will try to schedule my interview right near the last available date so I don't have to wait as long to learn the outcome. Can anyone think of a reason that would be a bad idea?

i second that 🙂 i just want to know one way or the other at this point! sooo stressful. seems ike a TON of them went out today, i'll be surprised if there are any more going out. but, here's hoping :-/

congrats to everyone! and i agree with what vagirl and nyanko said...the orientation is REALLY worth it if at all possible. it did a wonderful job of showcasing the school (and is probably why i'm so bummed that now it doesn't seem like i'm going to have the chance to go there!).

If they are interviewing 220 people and they send out the invites over 10 business days, they may send out 20 per day. Today it just so happened that a lot of SDN'ers happened to be in the group of 20 that got invites. They'll be sending out invites for 7 more business days. Don't give up yet.:luck:

OMG! I got an interview too! I cannot believe it!

I attended last year's "interview workshop," which was not limited to interviewees, and I thought it had good information. I really would like to go this year to hear about the interviewee only part, but I am on the same boat with starlene45.....I will be flying to Illinois early morning on 2/22, so it's not really feasible or economically wise to go to Davis right beforehand. If some of you are going, please share the info with the rest of us who can't go! Thanks!

Now that I have an interview invitation, I don't know when I want to be interviewed.....Not that there would be a lot of time slots left when I call; I have a full-day's work tomorrow, so I won't be able to schedule my interview until Friday.....I don't want to be interviewed early because I am a chicken, but being interviewed last doesn't sound optimistic, either....
Oh, the dieimma.

Just so you know...when I called to schedule today, it sounded like they had virtually EVERYTHING open! Just the first two days had interviews scheduled. So I'm NOT convinced that most of the interview invites went out.

Congratulations everybody!

It shouldn't matter what day you interview - if you want to go later, go later. Also, if you can't make the workshop/orientation thing, be sure to look at the video links on the web page (sorry, don't have the link handy right now).

They probably haven't sent all the invites out yet. We're rooting for those still waiting too - good luck! :luck:

Hey all! I'm a newbie here but I've been reading the posts here esp the Davis ones. (I'm really grateful for this forum btw, tho I don't know if it's contributing to my anxiety 😕) I applied to CSU but got rejected and now I'm waiting and hoping to hear back from Davis. Good luck to those of us who haven't heard yet and Congratulations (and good luck!) to those who have interviews!👍:xf::luck::clap::bow::claps:

JustCats, I don't know if being one of the last to go is advantageous or not. Does anyone know if the same people are conducting the interviews? They might be tired/exhausted at the end of the week. Plus, you might be compared to everyone else who has interviewed before you. Could go either way.

Good luck to those of you who are still waiting. I've been there before, twice.

They're obviously just saving the best for last. 🙂

haha, there you go...i'll just keep telling myself that 🙂

i told the group of deaf students that i sit with for meals at dinner tonight what was going on with all of this and how if i don't get an interview, that means i don't get accepted so i am really nervous. one of them emphatically replied, "seriously? that's stupid! they should let you in. it would have been stupid for you if you went to vet school last year, it's better that you're here this year!" hopefully the adcomm will see it the same way, haha. oh children 🙂

Good point shelterURIgirl (and what a great screen name!).

Have you actually interviewed at Davis twice, or you've applied twice?

Thanks! JustCats.

I was rejected both years without an interview. I'm so excited b/c even if I get rejected this year, at least I made progress, ha! 🤣

Both years I had some classmates/friends get through so I was able to hear their experiences. Its all speculation and rumor though. Who knows. I think as scientists we tend to over-think these type of things...

Pupsforseeing, you sound like a really nice person! I hope you hear something soon!

I got my interview invitation yesterday. My interview is on 3/2 at 9:30. Can't wait Ill be flying in directly from my Minnesota interview so it'll be one heck of a weekend.

Just chiming in to say that my girlfriend got her interview invite from Davis in 2/11. I'm very proud of her!

uh oh.. does it seem like they're nearing the end of their invites even though they're technically until the 20th?

I don't think so. I got an interview last year during the last week, so I think they are still going out. Good luck!

To anyone who has been before, what is appropriate attire for the Davis interview orientation? Can I save the one suit I own for the interview? : )

Yes. Business casual is sufficient.

I called to schedule my interview just a minute ago, and most time slots are already taken...at least for the first two weeks of interview. I really wanted to get an interview on 3/6 the Friday, but unfortunately they had only the very last spot left--4:00 pm. Same goes for the Wed and Thur of that week. "You can't be very selective here," as the lady told me over the phone, I decided to schedule my interview during the last week.

Gosh, I really wish I sneaked a phone call during work yesterday!
People, if you haven't scheduled your interview (like me 🙁 ), do it now!

When is Davis interviewing?? I just want to know so if I dont get an email by then I can assume rejection 🙁

Invites go out Feb 9-20 and Interviews are Feb 23 - March 13

Does that mean they are pretty much done with invites?

I didn't get one....🙁

Good luck to all that are interviewing.

hey everybody, SDN stalker here. also got my interview invite on 2/11 at 1:55pm! very excited to have made it this far, as i was rejected w/out an interview last year. i called and made my appointment yesterday, and as others have said, there are not a ton of spots left so it's probably take what you can get at this point. i'm local to the bay area so i ended up with a thursday mid-day, but i am so thrilled - if they told me my interview time was at 3am on a tuesday, i'd start switching over my sleep schedule tonight. 🙂

does anyone know the breakdown on how many IS vs OOS that they're interviewing? i'm also surprised that the entering class has gotten larger - seems to be going up by a handful of seats every year. that's good news for all of us i guess, gives us slightly better odds! 🙂 anyway, congratulations and good luck to everyone else!

🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂 Just got home from work. Checked my e-mail and I got my interview invitation (1:35 P.M.)!!! This is my second time applying. I actually got interviewed last year and was denied, got a file review, worked on everything they recommended, and it all paid off. I applied for the optional supplemental VMOP as well, so I have 2 interviews! Good luck to everyone. :luck:

Yay for the shelter people! I used to feel so lonely, its nice to see more of us popping up in the field! Congratulations!

Hey all,

Was it just instate who have received invites so far? I haven't heard anything, but I am an out of stateer. Did you guys get letters or emails? Of Phone Calls?

Thanks,

Karlee

I'm a shelter person as well! 😀

Speaking of which...on the Interview Questionnaire thing that we are supposed to fill out for Davis. I'm not sure what to write for "Area of Interest in Veterinary Medicine" because I am just not sure to be honest. I think I'm stuck somewhere between Shelter Medicine and Zoo Medicine (but leaning more towards shelter).

Any ideas on how to communicate this on the Questionnaire?

Sigh... It's Friday the 13th (oooohhhh) and I still haven't heard anything. All I've been doing is checking my e-mail and reading SDN--it seems like it's all I can think about. Seeing how most of the interview slots are being taken up (at least for the first 2 weeks), I'm becoming less optimistic about my chances of getting an interview. 🙁 I really, really want to believe that I could still receive an invite for an interview, but I have to be realistic and accept the possibility that I may not get one. Waiting is so hard... :scared:

I know exactly what you are feeling, since I too havent gotten an invite either. Are you IS or OOS? I keep telling myself that perhaps this situation will be similar to what happened w me and WSU.. I had extremely late notice of the interview (as compared to everyone else) and I interviewed on the 2nd to last day...Considering I feel as tho I fudged that interview i was REALLY hoping to get one at UCD but who knows what will happen...

To all of you who have gotten an invite.. esp you "geequed" BEST OF LUCK:luck:
To all of us who havent received any invites... good luck and happy stalking of email inboxes this next week :luck::luck::xf:

i'm also surprised that the entering class has gotten larger - seems to be going up by a handful of seats every year.

Someone posted their interview invite email, which said they'll have 131 seats in the class of 2013. If that's the right number, then it hasn't gone up at all. We have 131 in our class, too.

does anyone know the breakdown on how many IS vs OOS that they're interviewing?

EDIT: Okay, I looked it up. Last year they interviewed 15 OOSers (not including the OOSers who interviewed through VSTP, offered admission to 10, and 5 matriculated. There was speculation (though not confirmed) that the previous year they may have interviewed 25-30 OOSers. Someone posted before that they're interviewing approx. 220 students this year, so from previous years that makes it sound like maybe 200 of them might be IS.

for some reason, i was under the impression that the class was around 110. maybe that info was way out of date. 🙂

Hello! I'm out of state, and received an offer to interview on the 11th through email. I've been accepted by my in-state school, so I chose to decline the interview. Good luck!

I am wondering how many people requested for a student host? I cannot make up my mind whether or not I want to talk to a current vet student.
I graduated from UCD, so I know the school. I would like to hear more about questions asked during the interview, but I had opportunities to talk to vet students about that when I was at school. I am the type of person that doesn't like to get my hopes up, so I don't know if I really want to know the specifics of a vet student's life before I get in.
Most importantly, I get a little stressed when talking to people I don't know over the phone....Maybe I should just rely on you guys on SDN😳

::fingers crossed:: that this week will be a good week for everyone!

tomorrow's a holiday for UCdavis right?? So we can't expect to hear from them till Tue?

😕

Hm...we don't have classes. So that sounds like safe bet. I don't know for sure, though.
