REJECTED.... Got the email today. I'm out of state, long shot so not to big of a disappointment. I only applied because both of my parents are vets and went to davis and my lil sis swims for them right now so I thought it's be fun to interview... oh well...🙄

Does Davis only look at 3 of the eLORs? If so, if you are given an interview can you ask if they will read the 4th? or how can you nicely bring it up so that maybe they will look at it?
Thank you in advance!

Any OOSers heard nothing yet? Not a peep. I applied, right? :ninja:

I am waiting...impatiently. I want my rejection email (if not solely for the amusement of being rejected by EMAIL...how cruel!). It is the last school I am waiting to hear from so I am eager to close the book!

I hope interviews are going well!! Good luck everyone!! :luck:

Have you decided where you'll be going yet? Just curious. ^^

omg, since i have obviously been rejected, as i received no interview invite, why don't you just tell me?! at least then i can schedule a file review 🙁

I too recieved my rejection email today. Since I was out of state I am not too suprised since I knew the competition would be tough. Congrats to everyone who got an interview. And good luck!

And there it is 😎

STILL waiting for the closure....and i'm IS. i mean at least show some mercy!

what is this order that they're sending us our rejections? i feel like if it's by email, it wouldn't be that hard to mass us together, i think we figured it out when we weren't extended an invitation to interview... but does anyone know why its trickling the way it is too??

*bump*

no interview invite, not a peep at all. what's going on over there?

also, wouldn't it be nice (and more convenient for them) to have a calendar on their site saying what stage of the process they're in? if not for SDN, i wouldn't even know that interview invites had gone out! why only tell the interview invitees that invites were going out from feb 9-20? that's relevant for all applicants.

That was actually on their website.

ah, good call, jenk. guess i didn't look hard enough!

So I called yesterday cause I'm IS and STILL have no heard anything from them. The only information I got was that all interview invites have been sent and "everyone else will be notified" by the end of NEXT WEEK. Call me crazy, but I find it insanely rude that they can't tell those of us who have been rejected sooner than two weeks after all invites are sent out. Clearly it means rejection but they know we're still hanging on my a thread of hope! Sorry to be negative, I'm just frustrated with them. But that's all the info I got! Hope this helps 🙂

Does anyone know the annual caseload at the VMTH?
(in particular, small animal. but I'm also curious about large and exotic/zoo/wildlife)

Can't seem to find this info anywhere... I even asked the hospital tour guide during my visit and got: "I don't know but it's in the thousands" 🙄

In the interview, is there time to ask the interviews some questions? At the interview workshop it didn't sound like there would be, so I wasn't sure.
Thank you in advance!

Last year, no. Don't know about this year. Overall, UC Davis seems to have the attitude that your interview is not the time for you to be asking questions. Kinda sucks, IMO, but that's the way they do it.

Yeah...this year I didn't have time or the opportunity to ask them questions.

Wish you were my tour guide!!! 😉

I saw on the interview thread that there were a few people on here interviewing today...hope you guys did/do well!

Anyone else on her get interviewed with the Small Animal vet?

In my interview today I had a small and large animal vets and the 3rd was a pathologist. I thought it went ok the one guy, I think Dr. Nelson didn't seem overly interested and just by his gestures I got the feeling he was being critical. Oh well I cant read their minds Ill have to wait till the 23rd to find out what they really thought. Im just proud I got an interview, one of 220 out of i think they said 1200 or something like that.

I had a small and large animal vets

Were they practicing vets or faculty members?

I had a private practice small animal vet from San Francisco (as in a non-faculty member) and I was wondering if anyone else had an interview with him as he was very hard to read in my interview. Anyone else know who I'm talking about?

Hey GeeQued, I had Dr. Nelson as well, and he was the same way with me. I left feeling that the interview didn't go very well because of him. It's good to know that maybe that's just how he is.

Do you guys happen to know the names of the other two interviewers that you had today and if they tried to match you up with interviewers that were in line with your interests?

Also why did you get the impression that he didn't like you, did he grill you? Now I'm all worried!!!

Sorry to ask so many questions.

I wasn't matched with people in my area of interest and I don't get the impression that it is a match so much as you get who's available at the time of your interview.

jjohnston was your interview today, if so what time, I was in the am. I was hoping he just wasn't a morning person, I felt the other two were somewhat friendlier either that or my interview just sucked lol

As to the other question - no they dont match for your interests since they really didn't know mine, I wouldnt be worried just be confindent and know your app, if you have a particular field of interest know current issues in that area like for example I got asked (I said equine) what are common lameness areas of concern in race horses (question nailed down to the specific joints that were examined during an exam on a race horse as well as current issues in the equine industry (I spoke about HYPP since im more so involved in quarter horses and can recite the disease front back left and right)

GeeQued -- no, my interview wasn't today. It was actually Wednesday, the 25th. And it was at 2pm, not in the morning. So I think that's just how he is! And yeah, my other two interviewers were pretty nice, but he seemed so disinterested that it totally rattled me. I did not feel that it went well at all.

For the other questions -- my other two interviewers were Dr. Snyder and Dr. Ian. Dr. Ian was mostly quiet, and Dr. Snyder was pretty nice. And none of them were in my area of interest.

Well that makes me feel better that my interview may have gone better than i thought since he was my main concern.

I'm still waiting for that rejection letter. Is anyone in the same boat? I'm starting to think they've lost my file.....😕

Im in the same boat.
Dont worry... It will show up when you are having a good day 😳
lol. Then again its never a good day when rejection letter shows up.

ok just got my rejection letter..

Finally got my rejection email today. What took so long?! haha

Just survived my interview. Whew!!! Atually it wasn't so bad. Luckily no Dr. Nelson. I was nervous after reading about that guy. Mostly I just got grilled about my research project. I mean really. At some point one of the other interviewers turned to the Dr. Synder (the guy grilling me) and said well know that you've passed your orals I have a question related to the field of veterinary medicine.

Man three weeks suddently seems like a long time, but, that was my last interview so hopefully I will adhire to my own advice and just focus on other things because I've done all that I can do.

It's hard to realize that the more you want something the more you risk if you don't get it...

Good luck to everyone else. :luck: I will post on the interview feedback, but, really a lot of my questions where about research models for horse OA which may not be helpful to anyone else.

got rejected today.

it said nothing about a file review though, do we just call the contact number listed on the site?

I had my interview too. I thought it went ok but who knows. There are so many brilliant applicants!

Overall though I had a very pleasant experience! Now comes the hard part--waiting and wondering and trying not to over-analyze everything that was said. Yikes!

Good luck you guys!

Hey UC Davis interview survivors!

At the interview workshop, the Associate Dean talked about how the interviewers may give us the opportunity to give a 'closing statement' of sorts where they ask you to tell them anything else you really want them to know at the end of the interview.

Was this your experience? Or did your interview end differently.

Thanks!
good luck everyone!!!!
😀:luck::xf:

Ha! I didn't really get to make any kind of final plea / why should you pick me over other applicants argument because we were so out of time (but I also didn't have the associate dean as one of my interviewers!). Sad, because I really wanted to, but the fact that we covered so much ground in 30 minutes was astonishing to me. Didn't feel like I covered nearly as much ground at my Western interview.

Also...on a similar note:

I don't know how many people got ethical questions, but I didn't get one! Instead, to my surprise, towards the end of the interview one interviewer said that they could "gauge my ethics and character" based upon an experience they asked me to talk about. :scared: That statement has been a hard thing to keep off my mind ever since because the experience is not one that can (in my mind) be judged ethically because it was experience that was in a foreign country where they do things VERY differently than in the US. I'm just hoping they understood that...:xf:

Hey Pomona,
They ask you the ethics question to ensure that your ethics match those of the school and AVMA etc. If there was any question about your ethics based upon your experience and statements they would have asked you an ethical question to make sure you were on the right page. So don't worry about that part 😉

I really hope you're right Sunburntcheetah! :xf:

Thanks for answering my Q Pomona.
And I'm sure you rocked your interview. 😉

Here's to an SDNer clean sweep!
(Ok, now back to talking aloud to myself in my living room. 😛)

haha...wouldn't it be fantastic if all of us SDNers got in! Wow...that would be phenomenal!

Judging by the way the question was phrased, I assumed that you were not given the opportunity to give a closing statement or something of the sort either. What was the case for your interview, KittyRex?

My interview is actually the day after tomorrow... I'm just really nervous and I wanted to get a better picture of the format (and if it was really as clear-cut as the assoc. dean claimed). Guess I'll just have to insert all of my major "pick me!" points into answers for other questions instead of preparing a kick ass closing statement. LOL.

My bad - - - I didn't realize you had yet to interview! I am sure you will do wonderfully! Just remember, you're selling yourself during the entire 30 minutes...so it's not likely that one particular thing you say at the very end is going to sway them one way or another. It's more or less an overall impression 🙂

Good luck to you! ...and let us know how your interview goes!

Here's one SDN'er that I think won't get accepted this year. Although I felt I had a good rapport with the interviewers and they were very nice, I also felt as though I was getting the post-mortem on my file during the interview. We'll see. I mean they're obviously going to ask questions about anything in your file that concerns them.

Kitty Rex--I was given the opportunity to close by telling them something about myself that they might not have gotten from my file. Unfortunately, I gave them the answer I had "prepared." I should have said something instead based on the questions they asked during the interview that clearly indicated their concern about my file, but frankly, I just wasn't that quick. :bang:

Good luck! You'll do great! Really everyone was very, very nice and the atmosphere was very relaxed. I knew my weaknesses when I started this process and fully expected that I would not get in anywhere this year. I think I'm going to be in the position Sheltergirl was in last year--I'm going to be told to reapply after I get more clinical experience. :luck::luck::luck:

You know, reading people's afterthoughts post-interview last year, it seemed like a lot of people who felt drilled or who didn't get a lot of direct positive feedback during the interview were accepted afterall (including a friend of mine!). I bet your interview went a lot better than you thought.
How much clinical experience do you have? If they granted you an interview, I'm sure that whatever it is, it's not a deal-breaker, they probably just wanted to hear you explain that you understand what your'e getting yourself into! 🙂
Regardless, I am crossing my fingers for you JustCats. :xf:

I've also already had my interview and I too had an opportunity at the end to try and sell myself to the tune of something like "why should we pick you over someone else?"

I walked into the interview thinking it was going to be a little more intense than the interview workshop led on to, but wow! It was like rapid fire questions. I didn't get a bad feeling about the interview or get the impression that my interviewers were disinterested in me, but I was definitely grilled about my experiences, knowledge, and aspirations for sure. I think that's just the style of interview they do at Davis.

At least we're all in the same AHHHHHH!!!! boat.

I agree with bunnyslippers - - - I wasn't prepared for the rapid-fire of questions. The orientation made it sound like it would be a much more relaxed pace. I mean, I am glad that the questions were asked so quickly and that we were able to cover so much, but gosh 30 minutes goes by fast! Parts of the interview I felt I was being "grilled" but others felt more relaxed. I guess it varied by the topic. I was a little concerned that the interviewers wrote very little down during the interview.

As for JustCats - don't count yourself out just yet! I am sure they poked holes in all of our potential flaws. I know I got a little defensive when I was "asked" (at two different times) "So you don't have small animal experience?" from a SA vet. I told him that I DO have small animal experience but it's in non-profit settings: shelter clinic, spay/neuter clinics, just not in private practice, but that I would be getting private practice experience this semester. ...Is this similar to what you got JustCats?

I'm kind of worried know that they really didn't ask me much about my application or my low grades. I also didn't get a lot of rapid fire questions? Why the different format? Do you think it was just different interviewers or are they not really interested in me as a candidate?

I was given the chance to give a closing statement of sorts, but, having missed the orientation I didn't know that was going to be part of it.

Crap! Was my interview a blow off...:scared:

I wouldn't worry about the focus of your interview . . . I know people who got in and all the interviewers did was bs w/ them about their research for 20 min . . . I also know someone who answered that they would euthanize a healthy puppy and got in . . . I'd be more worried about getting grilled than not getting grilled at least. Last year i felt grilled on my interview and didn't get in. This year felt more relaxed and i think i improved my application a lot. I also know people who have gotten in w/ like 2.9 GPA's so that's really not a deal breaker either. Some bits of it really feel like a crap shoot to me so i think the best we can all do is just try to distract ourselves as much as possible for the next two weeks . . . the 23--27th are going to be the REAL stress days . . . no need to jump the gun
