Support thread for those of us on the alternate list at UC Irvine. It will help us know when theres movement and will help future students.

So who's on the list with me? And what do people know about the waitlist? Do they openly rank it? Do they cut it down and reject some people early on?

On past threads SDNers claim that about this week they received an email asking for updated contact info and to reaffirm that they wanted to be remain on the alternate list. Beyond that I can't find much info on the subject - anyone have anything to add?

Anyway post on here so we know how many of us are waiting and we can all keep each other updated on people who get off the waitlist - that will keep us all hopeful!

hey alwaysaangel. i'm on the alternate list at UCI, too. i think i came across a thread from last year that said their waitlist is actually ranked internally in a computer system that divides it into three tiers. when spots are available, the computer spits out the next candidate and the dean (dr. peterson) has the ultimate authority on if the person is accepted or not. the committee meets in person to go over what the computer says, and if the dean wants to pick someone the computer didn't spit out, she can do that too. sounds kind of crazy to me, so i'm not sure how reliable that thread was.

i haven't got an email or anything from them since the status change. do you know when they usually get around to the big waitlist movement? i know a few people were accepted 2-3 weeks ago or something. anyways, good luck to all of us waiting... i hope they don't keep us waiting too long!

See I have yet to see someone from our day get in. So maybe they accepted fewer than usual and will take more of us off the waitlist. We can hope! Also a cursory glance through mdapps shows that not too many people have actually been accepted and kept it. So we can hope they have seriously underaccepted and will be letting a lot of us in.

Of course, it may be wishful thinking on my part.

do you think our interview class was just put into the alternate list b/c they didnt have enough time to convene on our apps? 3weeks doesn't seem like enough time to do so. maybe i am wrong??

They claimed they were going to do it on 5/16. So decisions by 5/18 makes sense. I can't imagine they just didn't decide and stuck us all on alternate list. They would have just left us longer with no decision.

Really? Wow, I figured they'd just continually be pulling students from the alternate list throughout June and July.

They do like most schools, but through my "research" of SDN and mdapplicants I have noticed most people are pulled off the waitlist the following 2 weeks right after the 5/15 deadline. This is just an observation I have noticed, nothing really substantial.

Hi all! 😀 I stumble across this thread and just wanted to wish all my prospective classmates good luck. I feel your pain. I myself was waitlisted @ UCI for 6 months before I was finally accepted in April. Hang in there & good luck again! I look forward to meeting some of U in August.😀

P.S. As a bit of good news: I seem to remember reading another thread that listed UCI as having ~37% retention rate, meaning 63% of accepted students choose to go elsewhere... definitely good news if you're on the waitlist.

If you look at the acceptance thread and md apps most people got decisions in 3-4 weeks from their interview. From September to now. They're pretty consistent on that.

And I sure hope that a lot are pulled off this week and next. But last year and the year before it looks like a lot of movement happened in June too. So people who don't hear in the next two weeks - don't lose faith!

Hey guys, a very quick perusal of obvious waitlist threads over the past couple years gives these numbers of SDNers getting off the waitlist:

2006-
May: 3 (5/25 and 5/31)
June: 0 that I can find, but a poster said that Gayle told him that regular withdrawals were occuring and they were taking them as they came. But there was no chaotic rush like there had been in the past.
July: 1

2005 –
May: 5 (mostly late May)
June: 4
July: 3 (some VERY late July)

I haven't received anything yet, but in past years it was this week that they sent out letters requiring people to confirm their interest to stay on the list.

Also - BUMP! There have to be more SDNers on this list! We need to support each other and give hope when one of us gets the call!

She told me that the adcom liked me and that it was possible to be accepted anywhere from June to August. If you have any questions, I suggest calling the office and asking for her, she's really nice and helpful.

I also got on the alternate list. After sending in the updated contact info I got an email back saying:

Office of Admissions & Outreach would like to recall the message, "Alternate List".

What does this mean?

Also, GreenCenter: usually if you get something that says they wanted to recall a message it means they sent an email and then "recalled" it. So it wouldn't be sent. So maybe they had responded to you and then changed their minds and recalled it before your email retrieved it.

Hmm, I might give it a try next week but considering the email today specifically told us they can't give us extra info so don't ask - I don't know how it will go for me. I should have tried to beat the email I guess.

Seems like most everyone from 4/26 has heard back, maybe you've been accepted but they haven't been able to reach you by phone yet.

I did receive some financial aid emails probably a week after the interview telling me to set up an account online to view my fin aid status.

kinda ridiculous but at least i got a response

Hey,

I'm not zebumeat, but I got accepted to UCI, too (4/9).

I got a call from Dr. Peterson on a Monday, but I missed it. She emailed me later on in the day, mentioning that she tried to call me. I doubt the protocol would be any different for May/June admissions.

Also, I checked my status page just for the hell of it. It says "Accepted" for "Admission Status."

As far as I know, the UCI Adcom meets every 1.5 - 2 weeks.

Yeah, I got a phone call from Dr. Peterson (missed it). She left me a message and I called her back. Everyone else I know that's gotten in has gotten the phone call too. When I got home, admission status had changed to "Accepted." No e-mails though--I think that's her second resort.
