So I called the housing office and it looks like there are 50 TOTAL guaranteed spots for the entire medical school. The entering MS1's get guaranteed housing based on interview date and not acceptance date. So those of you who interviewed early on will probably hear some good news soon! I on the other hand interviewed on the last interview date! 😱 no hope for me LOL

Yeah and thats new. Last year we had none. As I said before though - MS1s are getting all 50 slots because its "recruiting" season. So a little more than half of your class should ultimately be able to get on-campus housing.

Congrats penguinny! :clap::clap::clap:

Congrats to everyone getting acceptances. Join the facebook group ASAP! Does anyone know exactly when we will get out for summer/start year #2?

I read somewhere that the last day to complete prerequisites for UCI is July 15th. I can't find this anywhere online. Can someone verify this ?

June 12th is your last exam next year according to the calendar right now.
And 2nd year usually starts the Tue after Labor Day.

Thanks alwaysaangel! Now I just need the stupid housing to come through and I will be set.

Anyone ? It's kindda urgent. If this is true, i need to switch out to another section.

Are you on the guaranteed housing list? If you're not you might be hard pressed to get in. In addition to all the grad students that are guaranteed you are battling with all the current 1st years who have been on the wait list for a year and are trying to get in.

If you were to get a spot it will likely not be until September. Because the rest of the school starts then thats when most people move out and most leases start. The 3 people who got housing last year had to couch surf or live in a hotel for the first month of medical school before they got in.

So it can definitely happen - just realize it is likely that it won't happen anytime soon and you need to be ok with the possibility of starting school with nowhere to live.

Dumb question, but how do you find out if you on the guaranteed housing list?

I got an email from housing shortly after I was accepted telling me that I was on the guaranteed housing list and that I was being assigned to a 2bed/2bath in VDC Norte.

It says it in the acceptance packet, my friend.

You would already know. Its basically the first 50 people who were accepted. If you don't already know you're on the list you're unfortunately probably not - but you can call housing and double check.

I don't think they go by acceptance date though, they go by interview date. So the earlier the interview date, the better. There are people who were accepted after me and have guaranteed housing because of an earlier interview date.

True, I guess I worded that funny. My understanding is back in May they took the 104 people who were accepted at the time and gave it to the first 50 who were interviewed (whether or not this includes the 8 MD/PhD and the 12 Primers who are already guaranteed housing I don't know).

But at this point they've given out all 50 spots - so if someone is pulled off the waitlist now an early interview date won't help you unless the person who dropped had guaranteed housing.

I guess a few people on the guaranteed list at this point would drop and someone would get the spot - but my point is - if you haven't already been told that you're on it you probably shouldn't count on being on it or getting on-campus housing unless you are willing to wait until september.

If you are not on the list. Please do not BEG them. Just wait it out if you get it great, if you dont, at least you know you did not sell out.

any waitlist action recently?

I think they have already made their minds about us. We both have stats well withing their range, so if they liked us, they would have accepted us already. There must be something about us they don't like unfortunately. Wish you the best of luck !

Well they can't accept people when there is no space. As people withdraw as the summer continues on people will get in. I know several people in my class who got off in July.

hey guys, i was offered a spot 2 weeks ago, but withdrew last week. so hopefully one of you gets that spot.

:luck:!!

JULY !!! how is that possible, you can only hold one seat after may 15th !! unless there are rounds and rounds of student exchange after that date.

Alwaysaangle, how much scholarships/grants does UCI typically give to students? I know a lot will depend on the students' financial need, but for the ones that do get grants, how much is it typically?

Yes, it can go on and on until the first day of class. People are getting off waitlists everywhere all the time. So there can be many people later on this month and next who get off waitlists at other schools and may decide to decline UCI. never lose hope!! :luck::luck:

Plenty of people hold more than one seat after May 15th - for one reason or another. Still waiting for financial aid, just got in somewhere and needs a few weeks to decide. As long as all the schools know whats going on plenty of people hold their seats. Then they withdraw and that person gets in, that person withdraws and someone else gets in. There are rounds and rounds of exchanges. So people withdraw into July no problem.

The whole all waitlist movement occurs on May 15th is a premed myth.

Grants are kind of scarce at UCI - I know someone with a Regents scholarship for 7k, and most of the need-based people get 5k or so.

bump, is UCI waitlist movement really this dead?
