how'd it go?

interviewed exactly two weeks ago. the student one went well...although those tend to do so. the faculty one...eh... i have no idea. two words? either way. the guy was slightly pretentious...went into the hierarchy of health care providers when i briefly mentioned i was interested in nutrition with preventive health...and said..."no! don't become a nutritionist...i hate to say this .. but we all know that the doctor is at the top..etc.etc". yeah. and consider me talking about this to an MD who is obese. hahahahaha. i coulda shot myself. however, when he learned of my acceptance to another school...somehow he *seemed* to be more interested. but... then again. who really knows. this whole thing is just faster than i thought it would go. i Had been planning on just watching this drama unfold through all of you. hehe. but i guess i've been sucked in faster than i woulda thought.

please don't let the 3/7 batch be mixed.... i can tell it'll just be me with the bad luck..and big mouth. ha. do i sound angry? boy. this waiting messes with my normally unjaded and relatively pleasant demeanor. ugh.. just let it be over. in a good way. :scared:

Sorry - I would be more than willing to trade places with you right now. The 3/3 batch looks like it really is all waitlists - sigh.

Bad news. 3/7 is bad. We're 'hold.' ie low-priority waitlist. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Maybe your letters will be different. I'm done with this thread. On to the columbia waitlist...

aaaaaaaaaaahahahaha. iknew it. this sucks.

please be lying.

The NHP:1f is a database code of some sort, probably Access. When they make these letters there are codes all over for where to pull info... your name, address, date, the text, his copied signature etc. Most likely there was something that was supposed to go there or they just forgot to delete the code.

Doesn't that macro driven letter make you feel special?

Should I even bother if the letters don't come out to June? I was hoping to start some research this summer since Im gonna be busy during classes. So much for that plan.

This is starting to feel like cruel and unusual punishment. How can it take a letter almost a week to get from LA to SF? I am pretty sure that everyone in the Bay Area that had a status change on 3/3 has already got their letter. And the odds of my letter saying something different than the other 3/3ers are very slim, but I am still clinging to hope as I conjure up all sorts of permutations of why my letter is taking longer.

No offense, weirdos, but NHP:lf (not 1f) stands for Neil H Parker, written by Lily Fobert. Stop coming up with crazy theories for every small, inconsequential occurence in this otherwise hectice process.

you spelled, hectic wrong. that "e" at the end must mean something. you're trying to tell us in code that you're really from the ucla adcom and that we have finally cracked the code to your strange and torturous system of admittance. wow, now i'm seeing everything in the form of streaming green lettering...

take it easy, agent smith, we're just playing. 😛 what else is there to do these days besides coming up with crackpot ideas anyway? get a life? HELL no! 😀

Waitlisted (from the 3/3 batch). Good luck to everyone else still waiting!

Damn chill out man. Just going off of what my roomate said who has taken some access and networking courses. Jeeze Moving on in life...

Anyone sent in their waitlist letter yet?

Any of you who were"completes on 3/7" heard anything? (Still blank here 🙁 )

Waitlisted...yet again...(I'm really sick of this 😱 )

nope, but i'm hoping, praying, wishing that it is very well mixed (minus the rejections). :luck: :luck: :luck:

Well, it's official... add me to the 3/3 waitlist, er... list.

Stinkin' CA.

Add me to the 3/3er unranked waitlist. But the one saving grace of the situation is that my friend who is a M1 at UCLA this year was on this list last year. The admin office told him when he would call that this is the list to be on.

If that's the list to be on, how many different lists are there???!!! 😛

I think there's a low-tier waitlist as well. I'm still debating on whether or not I'm going to accept my waitlist spot. We'll see...

I believe there are two waitlists. The ranked and the unranked. That is how it worked last year. But I do not know about this year.

I thought there was an unranked waitlist (the good one) and the hold list (lower tier). I was looking at the class of 2009 thread and about half (literally) of those people on SDN there were pulled off the waitlist. Good luck everyone!! 👍

So what is the 3/7 batch? Has anyone else heard besides DrHouse?

Wow, you mean that last year, about half of the people who posted about receiving a waitlist letter were offered a spot in the class? Whoa, I hope we're just as lucky this year!

Would you mind terribly to post a link to the class of 2009's thread? I'm having a hard time finding it. 🙂

Its just based on people that post on SDN, not representative the actual population...Like someone said before, its probably a third of the class that comes in via waitlist. good luck!

Yes, a good number of people get off the waitlist! 🙂

Hey UCLAStudent, do you have insight as to how that waitlist w/o rank works? Realistically even without a specific chronological # tied to each candidate, they MUST somehow distinguish the waitlistees by high, medium, and low preference, right? Please find out for us, thanks. 😍

Got my letter today- I am in the HOLD/ polite rejection category. DAMN IT. Oh yeah, I am in the 3/7 group. Anyway, for those of you on the waitlist, the M2 that interviewed me said that almost half or her class is from the waitlist. That sounds like a lot but it's what she said. Does anyone know if there is even a chance of getting in from the hold list, and what is the purpose of this distinction in the first place? Just curious.

that SUCKS... UCLA doesn't know what they're missing out on... 🙁 i'm from the same group, so i guess i won't be going to school in LA?

Hey medworm! I'm not sure on this, but I think you're right that the school probably does have some sort of pecking order for its waitlisted applicants. It doesn't make sense any other way. Just because you weren't given a ranking doesn't mean that there isn't one.

Anyway, I'm not at school right now (spring break! 😎 ), but I can ask around for you when I go back. Good luck! If you had to get waitlisted, that's a good list to be on. Looking back at last year, it seems that UCLA initially accepts pretty close to the class capacity so that the waitlist moves well once people start deciding on their final schools.

2nd priority waitlist/hold list/unranked waitlist/the "you're good, but nowhere near as good as we'd like you to be" list... so i guess school in LA is completely out of the question now. that's fine, i like my climate less smoggy anyway, it'll be better for my complexion 🙂 .

Thanks uclastudent!

Btw, does anyone have an MSAR on hand? I can't seem to find mine anymore, and my place is hellla small. What does the bible say about historical # of interviewed, accepted, and matriculated?

Can't help but to be obsessive-compulsive at this point!

Thanks and good luck to everyone who hasn't received a decision yet! :luck:

7018 Applied, 717 Interviewed, 169 matriculated

Hang in there for those still in waiting, some more spots will be available on May 15. Good luck for those still in waiting. :luck: :luck:

So if they initially accept 169 by 3/15, then only ~40 of those decline and free up spots for waitlisters... is my math right? Wow, it's amazing that that UCLA is first choice for that many applicants. Hmm. 😎 You would've thunk that the smog, traffic, and stucco would drive people up to places like the Bay Area instead.

Don't sweat it man, your alternatives kick ass.

i'm ok, it's just kinda tough knowing that i'm going to be at least 2000 miles from home in about 5 months. it's exciting, yet extremely nervewracking, haha.

just to be sure...u mean 5/15 right?

Errr..no. according to AAMC recommendations, they need to have issued a number of acceptances at least equal to the size of its first-year class by 3/25. May 15th is the date for applicants to narrow down to one school.
Thus the impetus for UCLA to mass mail all their letters this month.

interesting, thanks for clearing that up!

I thought there were about 120 at UCLA. Is this including Drew? Does anyone have the numbers for UCLA alone?

This included 24 from UCLA/Drew which do their last two years at King/Drew hospitals for most of their rotations.

It also includes 24 from the UCR/UCLA program where they do their first two years at UC Riverside (same curriculum) and then join Geffen student at UCLA for the last two years.

Both of these program are equally if not more competative to get into (comparing applicannts vs. acceptances). All of UCLA rocks!

I see. So does anyone know the application/interview statistics for UCLA's 120 spots?

So the stats suggests that the 600 interviewed, 200 accepted, and 120 matriculated at UCLA still holds. Interesting!

ok. it's funny how one always hopes to be the special case, or some exception to the rule. and though my head is prepping for the Hold (still too fragile to say...ReJECT) spot, something else keeps distracting me with thoughts of...."perhaps...." anyway, so much for the 3/7 status change. just saw the mailman leave my house. time to face the truth. the show is over. good luck to everyone else though.

Good luck, let us know if anything cool comes...

3/7 letter: "HOLD". 👎

i know exactly what you mean. yesterday i kept hoping that they accidentally changed my status or sent me this letter and that soon they'll send me an acceptance 🙄 . today i have a much better grip on reality 🙁 .

for the furrent ucla med folks: i know that ucla accepts a bunch of people from the waiting list, but does ANYONE get in from the "hold list"? 😕 😕

THANKS

well... so i got the mail this afternoon and put off reading it until now. just stuffed the envelope into my bag and dumped it on the floor. finally pulled it out now and started reading the letter through the paper of the envelope bc i didn't REally want to read about the hold yet... can't face reality i guess. anyhow, somewhere in the making out of "blahblahblah... adcom acted on your app..etcetc....given the really competetive applicants this year.... put on... waitlist." 😱

so i tore it open, re-read it multiple times trying to make the words mean "Hold" like i was expecting. but instead, it said to send a letter if i accept the waitlist position

... and now... the strange relief? disbelief? exhilaration? that i wasn't, in fact, put on hold. funny what having really low/no expectations can do to one's perspective. screw the acceptance - i'm not on hold! woohoo...?

anyhow for those lurking around with the 3/7 change and haven't yet gotten anything.. perhaps you're still up for an acceptance. stranger things have happened. ... i mean, really, like driving home from work through hail/snow in the middle of march in sf last night. maybe it's a sign? good luck yall.

Got my hold in the mail today.

On the plus side, SDN gave me many days to come to terms with this before receiving the letter, so I'm not crying.

so has pretty much everyone that posted on this thread heard back now?
