oh my god!!!!! I can't even say how I feel right now, I feel like crying, like jumping our of joy, I know I haven't even gotten admitted to medical school, but just to know that I have finally made it over the secondary stage at one program is a great feeling, I'm going to call my wife right now, my mom, my dad, my family in south america, damn it everyone that I know....Even before I got axed out from almost every school I applied to, UCLA/DREW was among my top choices, and now it's definitely my top choice!!! For those of you who have interviewed there already PLEASE give me some tips on what to expect..I'm afraid this might be my only chance this year, so I want to leave a good impression. For those of you who have known me through SDN and even those of you who don't, thanks for the support....damn it I'm a grown man, and I can't stop crying....

Drew's going to be my first choice for next year, too! I love your enthusiasm and, even if you don't get in this time, keep persisting!! Maybe we'll be classmates in 2003!

Congrats man, just get all of the emotion out now and remember to keep a cool level head at the interview. You will inevitably be nervous, but prepare yourself and you will do great. Good luck!!

Congrats Dr. Don!!

Dr. Don Congratulations on your interview!! I just got a postcard in the mail to call and set one up as well. I would really like some more information about the school if anyone has any. Dr. Don where from South America are you? I'm ecuatoriana. Good luck!!!!

Hey Don, funny how we were refering to Drew in our email and literally on the same day you get the interview. Congrats. Make sure you practice for the interview. I made the mistake of not prepping for a couple interviews and that wasn't a good idea.

thanks peeps, my whole family is very excited about the news, it's a wonderful feeling! One thing though, interview feedback is not working!!!!! and the SDN medical school interview feedback does not have DREW in it...so if any of you who are reading this or have heard about DREW, let a brother know!!! thanks,

congratulations dr.don. drew is a wonderful program and for the most part, it seems like a pretty laid back interview, they get back to about six weeks afterwards.

the skinny:(if you have any other questions, just let me know)

interviews are on saturdays. if you want to be one of the first people to interview for that day, then you need to show up early, like at 8am or so. when you arrive you will sign up on a list and they will call you off of that list while they present a few videos. one is on dr. charles drew, and it is a really good account of his life. he was a truly amazing man, to say the least.

dr miller, who is really cool, will most likely give a little spiel on the school and the school's mission, ie serving underserved areas. from what i saw, drew/king hospital is in compton, which will offer a first hand experience with the underserved.

there will be one interview, and most likely it will be with a local doctor affiliated with the school, or a current student. they ask a bunch of questions off a standardized sheet. stuff about where you grew up, how you have shown commitment to work with the underserved, why medicine, why drew, etc.

my interview was very laid back and one of the most enjoyable ones that i have had, we talked for about an hour or so.

i wasn't asked any difficult questions, but i would be up to date on current issues in both medicine and the world.

a tour of the drew faciility is also provided and if you plan ahead, ucla will be more than happy to get you into one of their tours at the westwood campus. best of luck.

hey amaecua,
do you still live in ecuador? i was in quito for about 8 months last year with an exchange program. i liked the country quite a bit and will be back there this summer, para practicar mas espanol y viajar. i really liked montanita too.

thanks jdub! I will definitely start looking at some current issues regarding health care. well it looks like I might have my interview this saturday...Wish me luck people!

Congrats, Dr. Don! Knock 'em dead!! :D

Hey Dr. Don,

I interviewed in mid-december and my interviewer was pretty tough. This may be atypical, but his questions came directly from my application. Fortunately, i was accepted. I live minutes from the campus, so that may have helped me out, but be prepared. If you marked disadvantaged in your app, that may be the essay they read. Questions relate to helping the under-served, so your answers should reflect that you are willing to do just that. The area is actually called Willowbrook, which is next to Compton and S. Central. Just make sure you mention that you lived or worked in an under-served community, that is EXACTLY what they are looking for.

I am so happy for you! You waited a long time.

Hey jdub. I was actually born in L.A., but both of my parents are from Ecuador. My mom is from Quito and my dad is from Portoviejo in Manabi. That's great that you will be going back in the summer. Que cheverre!! Es muy importante saber el espa?ol. Que te vaya bien.

Congrats Dr. Don!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yippeee Dr. Don.
Man its about time. I am so glad that one school was smart enough to see how dedicated you are to becoming a physician and was willing to give you a chance. Now study hard for that interview and kick some ass, so that they give you no reason to reject you. I am really happy for you man. Let me know if you need any advice or help. I might have a few websites you might want to check out that may give you information that will impress the interviewers.

Go Bruins!!!!
