congratulations dr.don. drew is a wonderful program and for the most part, it seems like a pretty laid back interview, they get back to about six weeks afterwards.
the skinny
if you have any other questions, just let me know)
interviews are on saturdays. if you want to be one of the first people to interview for that day, then you need to show up early, like at 8am or so. when you arrive you will sign up on a list and they will call you off of that list while they present a few videos. one is on dr. charles drew, and it is a really good account of his life. he was a truly amazing man, to say the least.
dr miller, who is really cool, will most likely give a little spiel on the school and the school's mission, ie serving underserved areas. from what i saw, drew/king hospital is in compton, which will offer a first hand experience with the underserved.
there will be one interview, and most likely it will be with a local doctor affiliated with the school, or a current student. they ask a bunch of questions off a standardized sheet. stuff about where you grew up, how you have shown commitment to work with the underserved, why medicine, why drew, etc.
my interview was very laid back and one of the most enjoyable ones that i have had, we talked for about an hour or so.
i wasn't asked any difficult questions, but i would be up to date on current issues in both medicine and the world.
a tour of the drew faciility is also provided and if you plan ahead, ucla will be more than happy to get you into one of their tours at the westwood campus. best of luck.
hey amaecua,
do you still live in ecuador? i was in quito for about 8 months last year with an exchange program. i liked the country quite a bit and will be back there this summer, para practicar mas espanol y viajar. i really liked montanita too.
