UCLA letters sent out--Check Status Page

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got the letter on the east coast today too- exciting because I wasn't expecting it. Accepted, with $5,000 Scholarship! SOOO HAPPY! Thank you all so much for the support over this stressful waiting period.

i'm 20 minutes from ucla, but got no letter in the mail today. any other westcoasters?

for those who got the acceptance letter, was it in a small envelope?

no decision mailed for me. Interviewed in dec. I'm expecting a waitlist (or a rejection). At least I have one UC already. Congrats to everyone that heard good news!!!

Just got the acceptance in the mail today with the 5k scholarship! (I live in Norcal)
Interview Invite: 1/30
Interview: 2/8

Still in shock...

what?! you interviewed a little over a week ago and you got the acceptance already?!

congrats to everyone who has gotten the good news 😀

Is anyone who got a letter a student of UCLA??? (I'm trying to see if it's a trend to be from other schools)

I see it's your first post, so I'm guessing you've heard some rumors in the pre-med circle that UCLA does not like to take its own. I did as well in undergrad.

I've had a chance to hear from people directly involved in admissions, Dr. Parker, etc...this is just not true.

you are completely wrong in your assumption. i have direct information from a VERY trustable source that UCLA prefers its own over any other school. there's numerical proof of it too (# of acceptances). thats all im saying.

It seems like a lot of the acceptances that went out in this first batch also went out with scholarships. Perhaps this first batch were all the "no brainer" acceptances to all the stellar applicants, of which I am not. +pity+More waiting for me then...

i agree... it seems like the same thing happened last year.

at my interview, the student who gave me my tour told me that everyone accepted is given the 5k scholarship. he cited something about the David Geffen endowment. i am not sure if it is true...but it sounds pretty sweet.

Accepted here in SoCal! I made my mom go home and check the mail for me during her lunch break. Gotta love parents! I also sent UCLA an update letter last friday, the same day they mailed the decisions. Great timing on my part. Good luck everyone!

just to clear up some issues, i am currently a student at ucla, and live in the central coast area. i've listed my home address, not my school address, as my permanent address, and got an acceptance in the mail today, in a small envelope. i also got the $5,000 scholarship. so, it appears that 1) UCLA doesn't mind its own, 2) letters were not mailed only to the East Coast, or to non-UCLA students, and 3) the kind folks at UCLA are not humane enough to use large envelopes... my mom nearly had a heart attack. in any case, good luck to everyone who is still waiting!

It's not true as far as I have read. Last year and the year before, the first batch of acceptances got the five thousand dollar scholarship. The following batches of acceptances did not.

Congratulations to all who got into UCLA!! I remember last year how I felt when I got the envelope. UCLA is a great place to be--in my and many other opinions, the best place to study medicine. For those who are still waiting, all I can offer is just be patient. Everything will work out in the end. If any of you have any questions about UCLA or need extra info before making your final decision, don't hesitate to contact me. I do admit now though that I might be a little biased 😀

Also, just to end any rumors, UCLA undergrads are the most represented in our class-33 total students. That rumor is just a matter of statistics. UCLA has the largest premed population in the country, so naturally due to med school class size, the good majority of UCLA applicants will not get in. However, once again, UCLA does accept its own 🙂. Also, to my knowledge, the 5K goes to the entire first year class, courtesy of Mr. David Geffen.

Go Bruins!!

Rocky

Congratulations to those of you who received acceptance letters! 👍

I also received an acceptance with a scholarship. 😀
Interviewed in mid-Dec.

congrats to all that have made it! i hope that i can hear back soon too....

not that im making any assumptions, but of those that posted above with acceptances, on top of the probably amazing ECs and interview that you had, your mcat and gpa are amazing (38+, 3.7+), im jealous, and you definitely deserved it!

congrats to those who got in! I hope you're not reading this right now and are out celebrating!

may we all get (good) closure soon 🙂

Man, you guys who have gotten letters are lucky bastards 🙂

I'm beginning to feel the rejection bug from UCLA but who knows, maybe an average joe like me might get lucky.

Anyways, congrats all!

p.s. Are letters only sent out each Friday? Or is it randomly chosen?

So when is someone going to start a UCLA 2012 thread?

Congrats to all who got accepted!

Wow, you guys have insane stats.

Are there any people with normal stats that got accepted?

must not just be the first batch. my tour guide was not accepted until april and he got it. maybe there are just less the later it gets?

Agreed. There are hundreds of premeds at UCLA--one has to assume that MOST of them will apply there--state school, cheap tuition and all. So the odds of getting into the school (even if they enroll ~33 of their own) are still no greater than if you are from outside of the school. Being a UCLA undergrad is not an advantage--nor a disadvantage. Just that the largest pool of applicants probably comes from UCLA, so when you see 33 enrolled, it appears skewed, but really isn't. Considering they only enroll 120 or so, it's slim pickin's no matter what!

yea... i know ppl who have received the scholarship without being in the first batch, too.

good luck to those of us who are still waiting!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got my two-page letter~! And I'm in~! With the 5,000 scholarship (which I also heard was given to everyone).

Have hope ya'll! I have average stats: 31 and 3.87 gpa, and I went to ucla undergrad. 😀😀😀:luck::luck::luck:

FYI, I sent them a two-page LOI pre-interview, and a week and a half later, they called me for an interview for the next day. Anyone who's questioning whether LOI's are worth doing, DO THEM. But also make them personalized, especially if you REALLY REALLY want to go there...

Good luck everyone~!

so... this batch has been all acceptances?

i interviewed in oct for the md program and my status page hasn't changed yet. anyone in the same boat?

😕

congrats raininspain!! were those letters of intent or letters of interest?

I sent an update letter, and was invited to interview a week later for the following week, so correspondence definitely does help. Unfortunately, my status page hasn't changed yet. I wonder if people in the same boat should send UCLA letters of intent...

what a piping hot thread. so hot right now..

if i get a 5k grant, im treating the ucla c/o 2012 sdn-ers to some nice steak dinner. (don't you ever wonder what we all look and act like in person?, i do)

anyways, i guess i should start drafting a letter of interest too since the whole world seems to be doing it. =p

sounds good to me 😀

arggggggg, take me already! raininspain, when were you invited/interviewed if i may ask? im just curious, you know us neurotic premed freaks like to calculate everything... congrats again!

soo i check my email innocently today only to discover that i have received an interview invite from UCLA. wtf...craziness?! im OOS and i had pretty much written off UCLA as a rejection but now im super confused as to whether i should bother going or not. ive already been accepted to a couple of med schools now, i really wish the invite had come earlier cuz i would not have hesitated last semester.

im curious as to what my chances are now of getting in since its so late in the game and ppl have already been accepted.

at this point, do they still prefer IS applicants?

also how late does UCLA interview (i wanna make sure that the date i request isnt way after they are done interviewing ppl)

any input would be greatly appreciated cuz i am super confused!

You have a chance. The website says:
"Residence: No preference is given to state of residence. However many applicants come from California. Acceptees from California are more likely to matriculate at UCLA. Out of 145 freshman, 85 percent were from California.", meaning 15% were oos

Just recieved a beautiful little letter from The University Of California, Los Angeles today. Accepted with a $5,000 scholarship. Congratulations to everybody who has been accepted and good luck to everybody who is still waiting.

hello, i just called the adm office

the lady said that final decision letters are being sent out almost everyday from now till mid march. so there's no particular day of the week where they send a bunch out. if your status hasn't changed, that just means the adcom hasn't got to your file yet. the adcom meets 'sporadically' so we just have to sit tight.

she assured me that there are A LOT of seats left for the 2012 class. she wouldn't give me the percentage but from the way she said it im guessing like 60%-70%.

she also told me that the decisions from here on out will be mixed bag (acceptaces, waitlists, rejections) and that the 5k is given to ALL matriculating students.

hope this was helpful.

s3park, you're awesome! Thanks so much for calling and finding all that stuff out!

anyone have the number to call their admissions office? I cant find it on their website. thanks

ever since the letters started going out ive been so anxious/worried. should i just stay away from this thread!?

oasis: http://dgsom.healthsciences.ucla.edu/shared/contact-us-dgsom

all: it has been brought to my attention that ucla has done their final letters differently in previous years. just wanted to let you know that im only parroting what the lady over the phone told me ( i asked twice because i read the threads from previous years too.) so please don't shoot the messenger if she was misinformed lol

edit*: called again just now. (i have a lot of time waiting for my probe to hybridize to my southern membrane) this time it was a dude with an english accent. he clarified stating that because the adcom meets so sporadically that there is no set day of the week where they send out decisions. but they DO send out decisions (acceptances, rejections and waitlists mixed) in tiny batches slightly varying in size (but around 25% of the pool) and frequency (anywhere inbetween 1x/week or 2x/month). so i guess the first lady meant that people will be recieving letters almost everyday since we all live in different places. there DONE. hope i didn't confuse anyone... im not coming back to this thread for a while... like after dinner

nooblet: stay far away. it's too late for the rest of us...

I have the same exact problem. It's difficult to stay away, but I'm going to really try to do so for now since browsing this thread somehow makes me more anxious. It's totally irrational, but it's reality for me.
