UCLA MPH Class of 2012 Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'd say future interests are as ( or possibly more) important that just past exploits. Public health isn't something most people start out hoping to study, and the reality is that PH is a conglomeration of various other fields. Experience varies a ton from people with lots of research ( like myself) to others working in various fields, MD's, chemists, I've seen the whole spectrum at UCLA.

Hi everyone,

I enrolled in my courses last week and I have to say, I'm a bit confused as to where my classes are going to be. Those classes in the Public Health building are given a room number, but that only takes care of my Biostats lab and Epi discussion. I'm wondering about my actual lectures, which are in the Health Science campus/CHS building. On my study list there's no room number listed. And anyone who's been in CHS knows getting somewhere in there is tough the first time even with a room number! Does anyone know what the deal is, when these room numbers will be revealed to us? I'm sure I could ask at orientation, but I don't really want to have only 2 days to familiarize myself with all the corridors and floors of the CHS building :scared:

oh cool! i didn't know that we could already register for our classes.

Yep, it's time! UCLA didn't send us any email about our enrollment appointment time, so I figured I'd just check URSA. For future quarters, don't expect any email to that effect. If all else fails, check URSA 😉

Any one taking the Management emphasis?

If so, what classes are you taking for the fall?

Anyone enroll for their classes and not find a room number for any/all of their classes in the hlth sci/CHS building? Any current/past MPHers are welcome to please weigh in on this situation, cause I'm sure I'm never gonna hear back from UCLA if I inquire!

Swak, what are you taking instead of M236?

As an update to those asking earlier, I received an email today stating my eFAN was available to be accessed.

Also, for those who may be waiting on Weyburn Terrace, I received an email a couple days ago stating I was given a spot in a two bedroom apartment via the housing lottery.

Just an update to those that may be lurking!

Hey this is my first post, yay! I'm going to be starting in the fall as a Community Health Sciences (CHS) student (anyone else out there?) I see that there are other CHS Facebook student groups but none existing for our class? Just wanted to check that with anyone who may or may not have joined one yet.

Does anyone have any other tips for new MPHs (especially CHS students?) I have two months of more free time than I can imagine (in Westwood area), and I definitely want to prepare myself for the next couple of years...

The CHS/HS building are the main set of buildings used by med/dent/nursing and public health students. It's a huge maze, but all your classes should be in those buildings. For instance 43105 is 4th floor, 3rd hallway, room 105. room 105s are all big lecture halls. Does that help a little? sometimes they assign rooms closer to the quarter. I need to find classes now!

I know where CHS is, and I'm familiar with the confusion of the building from my undergrad days at UCLA. I guess I'm just waiting for them to assign a floor/hallway/room number! Do you know if the room number will magically appear one day on the registrar's site? I keep checking (haha - I have no job, and therefore not much else to do!) It would be nice to know all this ahead of time 🙂 I know that my discussions and labs, though, are held in the Public Health building, and all those courses HAVE been assigned rooms. Strange. Hopefully they get their stuff together before orientation (2 days before classes start), so I can re-familiarize myself with the behemoth that is the CHS building 😉

Thanks for replying Behealthy!

Dear Incoming Student,

Please note that the Recommend Course Sequencing for MPH program has been revised. Although HS M236 was recommended for Fall 2010, it will be offered in the Winter Quarter for more manageable course load in the beginning of the year. In place of HS M236, you may choose to take an elective class. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,

Does anybody know if the CH parking lot at UCLA the same as the CHS parking lot? I just got notified that I have parking in the CH lot, but when I look at the map I don't see a CH lot, I just see a CHS lot.

Hey guys, school officially starts in about a week and a half! Woo!

I just wanted to see if anybody out there got their textbook already for Biostat 100A (Fundamentals of Biostatistics by Bernard Rosner, 7th ed). I ordered mine through Barnes & Nobles b/c it was slightly cheaper, but I noticed it didn't come with the CD. I believe the CD is supposed to contain data sets required for working the problems in the book, but not sure. I went through the book like a crazy person until I noticed on the back cover that we can download the data sets and additional problems from the publisher's website.

Did anybody get a CD and know what's on it? Should I hound B&N for one?
