UCSD Fall 2010 Applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Will the school notify you if you don't have an Interview with them.. Will they send out interview invite rejection letters? I haven't received a single thing and I am very concerned. It's gonna be a sad, sad Xmas.

Yes SD will send rejection letters. I remember last year it was the same way. They send out interviews first and then the rejection letters come. Last year I got my rejection letter right before new years, and looks like it might happen similar to that again. I am hoping for the best for you and everyone else, but remember its only one school. Enjoy Christmas with your family.

I just got my interview letter from UCSD earlier, I felt so lucky probably because I graduated from UCSD last year. However, today, I got rejected from UCSF. 🙁 Hopefully, I can hear some more good news from other school soon.

just curious, did your SD letter say on it that the dates were picked to avoid conflict with ucsf interviews?

If this is true, then i will get a rejection from UCSD since I haven't gotten anything from them yet.

I'll be driving to, I'm about 1.5 hours away. My interview is at 8 though😱

I'm curious. UCSD doesn't send invites by batches do they?

If not, does that mean that all invites have been sent, and rejections will come after the holidays (to keep everyone happy =P)?

I have been checking the mail and still no interview or interview rejection. My fingers are still crossed for an interview. I'm driving myself crazy wondering if I did something wrong. I thought I was competitive enough but I guess I wAs wrong. 🙁

I spoke to someone that said they got an interview invite after the new year. If I am going crazy about these interview invites.. I can only imagine what I'd be like waiting for acceptance letters <-- if I get that far.

Same. Can you ask about the postmark on their letters?

I didn't apply to UCSF. I still haven't gotten anything 🙁
that's not a good sign. Where do u live?

Sorry to hear that Bellbell88....... I know it sucks! did you apply to other schools??? if so which ones? I applied to 4: UCSF, UCSD, touro, and california northstate college of pharmacy ( all in CA). so far: UCSF (interview), ucsd (rejected) and touro (???- havent heard from them), and CNCP ( supplemental application invitation)..... so we will see what happens! I currently am back in LA with my parents for a bit till i start pharm school hopefully in the fall....but I was living in SF for the past 2 1/2 years....
btw, dont feel so discouraged...... a little FYI, Im a reapplicant....... I applied last year.... but only to one school: UCSF and I interviewed but got wailisted and didnt get in..... so moral of the story: Never give up on the things you love the most! Be persistent! 😳

while glancing through info on pharm schools tonight, i saw that UCSD is the 2nd "hardest" pharm school to get into, right after touro, based on the application to enrollment ratio (for UCSD it's 23:1!!!)

so, nobody should feel bad about getting rejected by ucsd, it's damn near impossible to get in. Personally, i dont know how i even got an interview and i have a hunch i just wasted 800 on flights/hotel to san diego just to get a rejection letter later. *sigh*

best of luck with applications everyone

Wow, I never thought touro would be so high. UCSD is a tough school, no doubt, but don't discredit yourself just yet. Pharmcas says they interview 280 and accept 90. Being interviewed means you have almost a 1 in 3 chance of getting in! Thats alot better then 23:1....

I thought the same thing about ucsf though lol(just about the app, don't know about an interview yet)

I also applied to USC and Western. I think I should have applied to more schools but I wanted to stay local. I haven't heard back from those schools. I just hope I can get in the first time around. I think my problem is not having much involvement in school extracurriculars. Thank you for the encouragement!

for those who got interview letters (is it via snail mail or email, btw?), are you required to send in a confirmation for the interview? when is the first interview date? i'm having trouble getting my mail forwarded from my college address in norcal to my home address in socal.. and since i'm currently not able to receive any mail i'm worried that i might be missing a deadline 🙁!

It's through snail mail, and they give you a confirmation notice that you need to send back to them. My interview is for Jan 16th, and I think they said I needed to confirm by Jan 4th. I would definitely try and get your mail situation figured out so that you don't miss any of their deadlines.

Rejected. Good luck to those of you who got interviews! 🙂

Rejected, 2nd year in a row. I'm puzzled.

UCSF makes a very earnest effort to communicate what they're looking for in a candidate, but I literally have no clue what UCSD is looking for.

Any ideas?

Me and my friends sort of have a theory that I posted last year ( we initially thought they they favored applicants with higher stats over applicants with lower stats but more ECs). A ton of us that were accepted to SF, didn't even get an invite from San Diego. Personally, they rejected me two years in the row.

I think they are just looking for different things in people. At first I thought it was very low GPA that got me rejected - ~ 3.3, but then they invited and accepted someone with like a 3.0 something last year. Now I'm just clueless.

I've got a low GPA too (3.3), and didn't get an interview at SD. I also don't have any research experience, which I think might have killed any chance I had. But I got an interview at my top choice (UCSF), so I can't complain. 😀

I am not to sure either. I have a 3.8 and no EC. I've been voulenteering at a pharmacy for about a year. I didn't get an interview. Ughhh

I totally thought they were a strict by-the-numbers school, but I guess what you posted proves me wrong.

Rejected today! Totally expecting it, but at least they're not stringing you along and actually sent a rejection (cough ... USC....)

Stopped by there yesterday. The campus is pretty big. The pharm building is nice, and it still looks pretty new.

On a side note, There's a graffiti hallway and stairwell in the art building. Its pretty awesome!

Ah, I thought they painted over that. Perhaps there's still some left but it was pretty cool before most of it was painted over. However, I think the pharm/med students usually venture around the med school campus than the main campus. It's just the weird setup of the campus b/c the med/pharm school is isolated from the main campus and it takes energy to walk over.

3.5 UC GPA + Published Research + Undergraduate Teaching Assistant + CPhT

Rejected!

Ya we drove between the two. I don't know if I'd ever actually walk between the 2 lol. The only reason to go that way would to see spectacles like that or to interact with the undergrads:laugh:

wow, thats impressive! I wonder why. How long have you been a tech? Either way, still wierd

3 years in Techie land. I am having a super ****ty app cycle this year.

Maybe private military contracting is in my immediate future. Hell, it pays a lot more than pharmacy!

Am I the only one that hasn't heard a thing from UCSD yet? They cashed my check and sent me a confirmation email a while ago, so I know that they received my app. I'm thinking they might have sent a letter to my college address (I've been at home for the last 3 weeks) even though my other pharmacy stuff is going to my home address...

Thanks! Actually, I just came back to school (UCSD) from winter break and found an interview invite in my mail dated Dec 15  All my pharmacy stuff has been sent to my home address over the last 3 weeks of winter break but I guess UCSD got confused. It's funny because all along I thought I got rejected since I didn't hear anything for the longest time.

did u guys mail your interview schedule confirmation or fax it??
I faxed it. but I still haven't gotten information about parking, hotel, and campus map.
have u got any information from them? I am worried that they haven't got my faxed interview confirmation...
Should I mail it to them?

I faxed it as well on 12/23 but still have not heard from them yet. I'm from east coast so I figure it would take awhile and it was holiday season... some delay maybe?

They probably won't get back to anyone until this week, since break started soon after they sent out the interview letters and the office reopens tomorrow I think.

It's around 2:00 PM (Eastern) and just received email from UCSD admissions office! There is information about UCSD nearby hotels/etc!!

I received an invite in email about 2 days ago. It has some attachments regarding hotels in the region and how to get to UCSD. The concern I have right now is that I won't be able to receive any of my mails until mid-January and I believe that most of the information is in the actual mail itself. This also include perhaps a deadline for accept/decline of interview. I don't want to miss it. Should I call them?

------------EDIT--------------

So I called the admissions office and told them that I will not be able to access any of my mails until mid-January because the managing staff in my residential complex is on vacation. Since they are responsible for all my mails I assume that I won't be getting them. However, the lady was nice and scanned a copy of the letter, dated December 15, 2009. I remember leaving school on December 19 and I still didn't get it. Anyways, the date to accept/decline interview was January 6, 2010, which coincidentally happens to be today. I immediately fax over the confirmation letter and called again to confirm that they have received everything. For those who have sent in the confirmation but havent received the supplemental material for interview, I wouldn't worry. I got my supplemental material in email 2 days ago before I faxed confirmation letter. This means even if they havent received your confirmation they will still email the interview material. Good luck to the rest of you.

Interview date: 1/16/10 8am. Hope to see you there. Let me know if any of you have the same day.

I did not receive an invitation until today since I called and asked them yesterday. Mine is on 01/15! I have already paid the deposit for USC. I do not know if I should go for the interview. Which one is better, SD or USC? Any comment? Thanks.
