UCSF Secondary Application

I have kind of a dumb question.... are you guys folding this and sending it out in a regular envelope or sending it as a package so that it is not bent?
 
I got the email today and 21 days deadline. my application mailed out 07/24.
 
Oh and also for the rest of you guys who have finished the secondary - for the proposed courses you'll be taking this next year, what if it changes? I mean, fall quarter i know for sure but I put down the courses I'll most likely be taking for winter and spring quarters -- do they care if it ends up my schedule isn't not exactly the same as what I put?
 
I am a reapplicant and on the secondary they ask what is the step you took to make you a more competitive applicant. Actually, I just volunteer more at American Diabetes Association and work full time. I also will be taking Human Anatomy class in the fall. I am not sure whether to retake DAT since I got an interview with them last year and got on the waiting list. I didn't indicate my future test date on AADSAS application because I havent' registered for the test yet. If I do retake DAT, I plan to do it in March. So my question is should I mention I am studying to retake DAT? because if I said that, they probably will wait until I have new score. What do you guys think?

It says "what are the steps you TOOK?" not "what are the steps you're planning to take?"
So, I wouldn't mention anything I haven't done yet if I were you.

No! They don't care if you have a change of plans.
All they care about is that you complete your prerequisites, before you start school at UCSF.
If they decide to accept you, they will ask for your complete transcripts before you start school in fall, just to ensure you've taken all the required courses.

I left it unfolded and I put it in a larger envelope. I figured if I fold it, it's gonna become one bulky envelope.
 
One prerequisite is Biochemistry (4 qtr units). My biochem class was 3 units and yes we were on the quarter system. No biggie right? I went to UC Davis if that makes a diff.

I don't think that matters. My biochem class was 3 units as well on the qtr system. However, I took two qtrs of biochem so... I actually just put both on that same slot because I wasn't sure.
 
You won't get a secondary until they have DAT scores on file - self-reported through AADSAS or official. See the DAT FAQ link for other info: http://dentistry.ucsf.edu/admissions/admiss_program1-faq.html

I couldn't fit all my future classes into the slots so I called and they said make two copies of that page and put the classes that didn't fit on the second page.

Thank! I found that out too today when I finally decided to call them aha. ADA takes forever with sending these official scores!!!! Been 3 weeks already for me 🙁 ... At least I have been able to work on the secondary a little bit bc of the guys that sent the link on here

I believe getting a 4 on the AP psyc exam counts. I think I saw it in the long list of instructions on the secondary.

I am kinda in the same boat in terms of the psych requirement. I didn't take general psych, but I took psychopathology. I hope they are somewhat lenient on this requirement.

You and I have almost the same stats so I wouldn't give up hope! Its still really early.
 
So tonight I found out the hard way that the 21 day deadline includes the day they sent the email. I made the incorrect assumption and what with working three jobs and wanting to send out a perfect secondary I put mine in the mail the night before what I thought was the postmark deadline. Tonight after a long day at work I discovered a wonderful email telling me that my application had been cancelled...so long application fee, so long 3 weeks of precious spare time...

anyone else having trouble fitting the course name into the space? i cant fit "chem 51A/51LB" it only fits "chem 51A/51"

write che instead of chem

Also, write undercase letters, "a" and "b"

It looked ugly but it fit.
 
thanks! did just that. Also, for your employment history, should i mention any part-time work for 3 months? I'm leaning towards excluding them since it says fulltime or significant employment
 
Guys, not to be a punk but stop flipping out! You're all asking common sense questions, and you'd be able to answer your own questions if you weren't so stressed out about irrelevant stuff.

If you're gonna worry about anything at all, worry about the interview cuz I'm gonna grill you all. :meanie: It'll be worse than ASDOH, and you'll probably cry during the interview. 😱 ...perhaps I'm kidding. Perhaps not. 😀 Study Biochem ahead of time...

You should do the Legally Blonde thing. Print it on pink paper, and spray a puff of perfume on it. Makes you stand out, I promise.

sorry to hear that, It was closed to make your miscalculation. I got email 7/28 that means 8/17 (tomorrow) is deadline not 8/18! anyway I put mine in mail today. I hope everything will be ok! :xf:
 
I sent in my secondary a few weeks ago but I'm just wondering.. on the proposed course schedule for the upcoming school year, what if we end up not taking a class we put on there (but that's not a prerequisite). Would I need to contact them and let them know or would that not be a problem? I mean, I'm registered for my fall classes and everything but it also asked for winter and spring and I'm pretty sure I'll be taking the classes I put but it's not like I'm registered for them yet or anything. What do you guys think?

No one cares about last year classes. You do eventually tell them though. I think we just need to pass the classes. I don't even think we need to take the classes we claimed to take as long as we get the prereqs done and have a decent workload.

That.. or you could do like what the other guy's friend did... just start cursing in your answers... that'll definitely make you stand out! I'm sure the adcom will enjoy your response to the supplement apps! :scared:
 
finally got the UCSF email invite for supplementary. Gonna get working on it now.
 
I had a quick question:

I am a reapplicant and I ended up retaking O-chem at a different university (I got a C- the first time around). So am I supposed to put that grade in there? Because there's no room on the application to list both grades.

Also, is it ok if I repeat some of the stuff I mentioned in my personal statement. A couple of the essay questions require me to talk about what is already said in my personal statement, but I don't know if it looks bad to be repetitive.
 
Hey everyone, how can I confirm that UCSF got my secondary? I mailed it out 8/12 (email invite received 8/5) along with check to different addresses. Check cleared today. Supplemental Material section on AADSAS says: "No Action/Response Required" and School Decision section unchanged since 8/17:"Received/Waiting Additional Information". Want to make sure they got it before 21 day deadline passes. Sent regular mail w/o confirmaton of delivery request.🙁

They send a confirmation email. Mine took about 5 days to get to me after sending the secondary.
 
I saw that a few on this thread got a confirmation email 4 days after mailing. I'm 7 days out since mailing so just want to make sure.
 
Well...they don't confirm it right away. They receive it in like 2 days (we can tell because they cash the check) but then spend a few days processing it. So if they are really busy they might take longer. I would try to contact them because you do want to make sure they get it within the 21 days.
 
Mine took over a week. I called to see if they had gotten it, and was told that they had gotten it but were just so busy they hadn't gotten around to sending out emails confirming it yet. I got the email a few days after that.
 
what did you guys talk about for the educational obstacles essay (essay #2)..im really drawing a blank. do they want me to talk about upward trends? Like how i changed my studying?

I got an email saying my application is cancelled!
I got email from them July 28th and I put my secondary in mail sunday Aug
16th that means postmark would be Aug 17th. it is exactly 21 days with counting the day I have recieved email. Am I missing something? they have cashed my check Aug 20th! 😕

Call them immediately. The only thing that I can think of is that the letter didn't get post marked until Tuesday. Apparently they are quite strict on their 21 day policy, though, so good luck and let is know what they say.

Counting July 28, that is exactly 21 calender days. I was starting to worry because I sent my secondary a week after I got the invite but did not receive the email confirmation until the 21st day.

Well they do send their confirmations later depending on how busy they are.

Anyway, I would definitely call them!! You should be within the 21 day period. Good luck!
 
I just got an email for UCSF saying my application was cancelled because I didn't meet the deadlines, I think it is a bunch of bull.


Email to start Secondary app: 7/28/09
Secondary mailed: 8/11/09
UCSF cashed my check 8/13/09

How could this be, has this happen to anybody else who was within the 21 day period?

Hmmmm...Danny has the same problem.
 
wow this is SOO ******ed! I also got this e-mail today and I called the lady ASAP. She told me that I sent the secondary application to the address that I am only supposed to send to secondary fee to. The actual application needs to be sent to a different address. HOW DUMB IS THAT?! :scared: I asked her what i can do about this and she said to mail it again - postmarked TODAY! I am at work till 5pm and being the ****** that I am, I didn't even save anything because it was all in PDF so I just printed it out!! 😱 I guess it's just not meant to be. theres really nothing i can do about it at this point!!! ughh soo frustraded 😕 I'm gonna try and call my bank see if they can cancel the check i sent them - but I don't think its worth ruining my credit score for one stupid school! ughh sorry for venting soo much its just soo frustrating

Welcome to the club my friend. :laugh: my deadline is tomorrow because I am in Texas and post offices will be closed by the time I finish the secondary. thanks god I have saved all mini essays :meanie:.
