Do the optional sections really need to be filled out? Would it be frowned upon if you had nothing to say in those sections? I feel like I don't have enough words to explain myself nor many experiences to share with them. Maybe I am just a boring person.

When I talked to Joel he said yes. Although I do remember a few students saying last year that they didn't fill it out and have gotten in. Joel talked about how successful applicants have such rich life experiences that they will take any opportunity they could get to share their story. I am paraphrasing so if Joel is reading this I hope I am providing an accurate picture of what he said. 😉

So did you ever fill out the optional sections, rycetrix? Bringing back an old thread but you were accepted to UCSF

Wow, you must've been bored kmoogs to revive such an old thread. No, I never filled out the optional sections. I don't think it matters at this point for you since you've already interviewed and everything is out of your hands. Let's put the past to rest shall we? 😉

Haha yes 😀

I'm just preparing for re-applying ... just in case ...

Always prepare for the worst, hope for the best. I'm already hoping. I'm starting my preparations 😛

Haha, it is an old thread, but a good one. I didn't leave a single question blank. I felt I had so much to share and it was the only opportunity to give UCSF a glimpse of my character. I also know someone who got in that didn't complete the optional section.

I left it all blank, I couldn't really write in those sections without exploring non-issues. I'm fortunate enough to come from a background where social/economic/educational were not really an issue. If something comes up, I try and deal with it. It's almost always my fault one way or another anyways 🙂laugh🙂 or can be remedied by my actions/effort.

Of course, in the event that I have to re-apply ... I'll have tons to write about to fill in my gap year (for that one optional question in Form B). 😛
