UDM prereq courses

Hello,

So I had a pre-dec interview with UDM and they saw that I had already graduated. I don't have the second part of Orgo nor do I have a first year English. Now I'm already taking them this year and will hopefully have them done before school starts next year. The interviewer didn't really ask me anything about whether i'm taking them or not. Do they expect me to take them anyways or does that mean they might not really care as much??

The reason I ask is because it's really annoying to have a full-time job and also take a course or two on the side. If I don't really need them, then I might as well drop them.

Any ideas?

I called their office regarding the same problem as you and they said that it would be fine.
Call their office and double check it. Oh wait...they are probably not able to check your status as you already interviewed.

That was a question you should had ask during the interview!! Semester is almost over so you should just finish it, Plus you probablly already paid for it! Dropping a course is not advice and you working fulltime/ taking partime classes is not an excuse..

Are you seriously going to base your decision on what you read on SDN? Call the school and find out. I would assume if its required then you need to have it finished before you start dental school.

Interviews are not design to go over a checklist. While schools can accept one with just a 6th grade education, unless you happen to be one of those candidates to die for, you might want to change your attitude. There are good reasons ds have pre requisites even though the justification appears to escape you.

No I'm not basing my decision on a reply from SDN, but what's the point of engaging in forums then? I'm just trying to get some insight from someone who might have asked that question before doing so myself. I'm obviously going to call the school eventually before I drop any courses.

Lol, we are just trying to help but I think is better to be safe than sorry. Just finish it, English class shouldnt be too hard, now orgo is another story but ITS a REQUIREMENT and they might end up NOT Accepting you because you dont have all the requirementb by time DS starts. You can do it 🙂

Check. You think your interviewer was/is clueless. If you do get accepted, you might wish you had English rather than some of the pre clinical courses and if you believe one course is costing you a "lot of money", wait until you see your final bill for the 4 years of dental education.

based on ADA book if your gpa is around 3.4~.5 and dat is ~20
you have a good chance of getting an interview

First regarding the question: I'm not sure what AP means, but I have grade 11 and grade 12 Ontario English credits. As long as you have a C (60+ for Ontario), then that will suffice the requirement. (That's what they told me on the phone)

Now regarding DM. It's a great school, great clinical program and an AMAZING new campus. I really enjoyed touring it. You will notice a big difference when you compare it to other schools, it's pretty much brand new. I don't know much about the curriculum but when I compared it to some Ontario schools, it looked pretty similar. Faculty that I met were amazing, very nice and successful people.

AP = advanced placement - they are a series of classes are offered in US high schools to achieve college credit (to participating schools) given a certain grade on the achievement test at the end of the course. Not sure if Canada has something equivalent/similar, I assumed you were a US student. To be honest, I'm surprised they are willing to accept classes from high school that aren't AP.

I think some Ontario schools have AP classes, I've heard of them now that I think of it. I was very surprised myself. I'm a US resident now, so I didn't hand in the Canadian high-school transcript like regular Canadian applicants would, but apparently that's why they ask for it.

mine is not AP. I'm Canadian as well so I'm not sure if AP courses would also be accepted or not. Best thing always is to ask them directly.

On their website, it says something about grade 13 english counting towards the requirements. I didn't see anything for grade 11 or 12. But that's amazing news, EH!!!

Do I really only have to have grade 12 english to satisfy part of the english requirement?!

I took composition last semester, but they said they require 6 semester hours of english to satisfy the english pre-req.

I was currently under the impression that I need to take an additional English course...can one of you clear this up for me? It would be greatly appreciated!! 👍

That's exactly what I thought. That's why I'm taking a full year English course right now. Turns out grade 12 English from "Canadian applicants" will suffice the requirement. I'm in the process of getting the transcript now, I just found out today.

Edit: call them and ask yourself to be sure 🙂
