I haven't interviewed yet but I clicked the group just to see... and I assume you're already a UF student because it requires a UF e-mail to join the group. So, you may want to create a normal open group for others to join.

Anyway, can anyone please give me insight about the interview?

Thank you. It's my first time making a group on FB however, hopfeully I fixed the issue now. Link should be fixed.

The interview was not bad at all. In fact, I want to say I enjoyed it. None of the questions asked threw me off gaurd. The interviewers (two) were extremely nice and supportive. Remember, you are basically in at the interview step for UF, just relax and be yourself.

Also, like reshma mentioned above, the actual interview was only 10-15 minutes.

For those of you who had interviews, how soon after completion of application did you receive the invite?
 
PCAT taken Sept 18. PhamCAS received the results around October 20th. So although my application, supplemental, and fees were submitted and paid September 22nd, my application wasn't "complete" until the last week in October. I then received an invite November 06th. So to answer your question, about a week and a half.
 
Hmm I guess right now they have more apps to sort through so the turn around time might be longer? I've gotten two your file is complete e-mails from Mary Beth, but no word yet. =/

Hi everyone 🙂 I am currently a first year student of Orlando UF COP. I used this website all the time last year as I was waiting for school to begin. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Good luck to those of you already accepted!
 
Are the classes easier or harder than you expected? Is it a good school?
 
I started with just my A.A, so I definitely did not have as large of an academic background, but it has not been impossible. Even some of my classmates who have a Bachelor's spent as much time or more time than I do studying, so do not be worried if you are starting out with only two years of college. There is a lot of busy work to keep up with, all of the work is very helpful in your future, but you can't get behind so it's more time management. I have been working about 20 hours a week plus extracurriculars and have been able to handle the workload fairly well. As with most of my classmates, we are used to getting A's, and that just won't happen so prepare now...

The school is great. It is challenging, but do-able, and UF graduates some of the best pharmacists in the state of FL...not that I'm biased or anything, but if you are accepted, it will pay off and be awesome 🙂 And the new campus in Orlando is amazingly nice and clean and plenty of rooms to study, ect.

I thought the Orlando campus was amazing! The open house sealed it for me as my #1 choice. You said you did not receive a BS upon matriculation. Just curious, what was your PCAT score and did you do any kind of pharmacy related activities prior to applying? Thank you.

I took the PCAT once and received an 88 overall with a 94 being my highest subcategory. I began working in a pharmacy as soon as I graduated high school, so about 1.5 years before I actually applied. My science GPA was a 3.59.

Yeah a 88composite and 3.6 SGPA will do it 👍

Im taking the PCAT in the summer and applying right after then. Any advice on material to pick up? I heard that Dr Collins will get you prepared.

Without a doubt, Dr. Collin's is the best study guide ever. It is 100% worth the investment, and still extremely useful if you just buy the study guide and do not attend the live classes.

I have a few questions please.
1) Are extracurriculars and working required your first semester?
2) Lake Nona seemed like a small city. Is it difficult to find work?
3) Is there a subject or concepts I should brush up on before starting Pharm School?

1) No, they are definitely not required but it will help you feel more like a "Pharmily" if you do more than come to campus for one class and then leave. And honestly, it will get depressing just watching lectures by yourself every day, haha. Not saying you would watch lectures with other people, but it is great to get involved and have social interactions with other students going through the same things you are. And between Septmeber to the end of the summer you have to complete a certain number of required volunteer hours in a community pharmacy, but actually working outside of that is not required.

2) I am unsure about the work situation in Lake Nona. A lot of people live near the UCF area and have jobs but there is an area about 10 minutes away from Lake Nona that is busier, so that might be possible. When you have career day and interview for a job the companies do a very good job of placing you in spots near where your family live or what is most convenient for you.

3) No, the material will be directed in a different direction than undergrad so I would recommend waiting. Even if the class is about the same material, teachers think differently and ask questions in a different way than you might have learned. Relax and don't study while you can, save your energy for Pharmacy school :laugh: We just finished our last final today and boy, have I been waiting for these 3 weeks off!
 
Where are you taking the class to obtain your CPR Certification?

My college offers a class HSC0405 - Basic Life Support (Cpr) Students that I just enrolled in. It's one day (8 hours) and $100 but it's covered by my pell grant. After completion of the class and a score of 85% on the test, certification will be granted.

Can you all please share why you want to go to UF? All I hear is "because it's a good school!" But no one ever backs it up. The interview process didn't shed any light on the school or program whatsoever. They didn't attempt to sell themselves. We didn't meet any faculty and the students had no idea what was going on. It was extremely unorganized. I was extremely disappointed at what this "top institution" had to offer. It may not be the right school for me but I would like to know why it appeals to you all... besides cheap tuition. Maybe I just have it wrong. Thank you!

I will admit, the tour on the interview date was rather lack luster and unorganized, but the students and the directer answered all my questions. I left unimpressed, but still satisfied. I was however, shocked to see how many bells and whistles you loose by selecting a state school over an expensive private one like NSU. No library, computer lab, printers, cafeteria, lounge, media facilities, gift bags, freebies like ink pens, no vending machines, book store, or housing. There was no wow factor, but like buying a car, you have to make a decision and pay for it. Do you want fully loaded or economical.

I chose UF Orlando for the following reasons:
Cost, location, tradition, reputation, and rank

Other schools I considered:
Belmont, Manchester, and Nova Southeastern Univ.
 
Florange, do you recall how much tuition is for orlando campus? I remembered someone said 26k?

It's about 13K per semester, and our 4th year is only 11K per semester. 😍 a big savings when compared to a lot of private institutions.

As a student at the Lake Nona campus, what I have seen so far is this...
Most students, unless you live right next to campus, don't use campus to study except on test days. You would be surprised how many of us use the UCF library, and the UCF med school library is open to us (about a one minute drive from lake nona campus). We do have vending machines with many snacks and more importantly coffee drinks, orange juice, many other juices, soda and water. We often go to UCF med school or the hospital about two minutes away to eat a hot lunch for a reasonable price, or there is an abundance of restaurants/fast food about 7 minutes away. We have a wonderful quiet study space which is our testing room and almost all other classrooms are open for group studying. Who actually uses the books in a library? 😉 all of our books are on computers, so the need for a "library" is unnecessary and we would probably complain if our tuition went toward books we don't use. Parking is WONDERFUL compared to a main university because we can literally park with zero problem and walk a couple hundred yards directly to the building. No parking garages, hunting people down for spaces, ect. I might be biased since I go here and UF was my number one choice, but I came from a huge University and I personally love the smallness and noncomplexity of our campus. Until your second and mostly third year you are not even on campus very much unless you are very involved in organizations, so I personally would not base it off the building. And I also love that I know everyone on campus, everyone. Unlike being in the middle of another campus with ten different programs going on, and knowing a select handful of people in the hallways.
Anyways, my point is, pick the best school for you, but please don't base it off snack choices 😉 all schools have theirs positives and negatives 😉
 
I agree with olivelaughlove0. Each school has its pros and cons, and you have to select the school that's the best match for you. Good luck with your decision chemistress.
 
olivelaughlove0, as far as text books. Are you able to purchase the actual texts or is it only available on the computer? If that is the case, i have to adjust as i am used to having the tangible texts in front of me.
 
Does anyone have recommendation for how to find a roommate? I havent yet joined the fb group yet but i was wondering if we had other options. thanks guys 🙂
 
When looking for an apartment, how do you know what you can afford in rent without knowing how much you qualify or in financial aide and loans 😕

I think I might put apartment hunting on hold until after I do FAFSA.
 
Hey guys!

I am new to sdn; I am currently in the process of applying to UF right now! I feel like I am so late compared to all of you who have already gotten accepted! I just turned in my pharmcas application and the UF Entry Level Pharm D application. Currently working on the supplemental application.

I am really worried after looking through all the scores people have posted. My PCAT score is only a 66. My science gpa is around 3.7-3.8. How good are my chances of getting in?

Hi everyone. I want you all to be honest and let me know if I have a chance of getting into UF. I have applied to Orlando and Gainesville and here are my stats

58 composite pcat with 82 chem and 71 bio
3.09 science gpa and 3.31 overall.

What do u all think?

Your GPA is very good. If I were you I will take the Jan PCAT just in case. If have the options and funds apply more schools.
