Does anyone have any information on, or know of any links to information about UF's exotics/zoomed program? I keep hearing it's great, but I can't actually find much information about it - ie. caseload, field trips, clinical year experiences. On our tour, they told us the exotics students work mostly with hoofstock. Is that correct?

For instance, I know that UF brings their vet students down to the Central Florida zoo to help do annuals and such, but I only know that because I live in the vicinity 😛 I also don't know if the students are DVM students, or interns/residents.

Thanks for any info!

(And good luck to all interviewing on Saturday!)

Best of luck to everyone interviewing today! I hope we will be classmates:luck:

Yes, good luck to everyone interviewing today!! Show em whatcha got!!

Wow!! The facilities we're amazing just as everyone said, and this is after touring a few other places. The people there we're also super helpful and inviting. It definitely changed my outlook completely 😍. Now the waiting game until April 1st. 😱

I agree. However I got asked a bunch of screw ball questions in my interview, even things on my thoughts about Bailout and healthcare it was BS. I still hope to get in, but if I was rejected I wouldn't be shocked.😡

Yea, I agree. One of my interviewers didn't seem to follow any set of questions and just asked whatever he wanted. He even interjected during another person's question 😱. It was so awkward for me trying to decide what to answer. I feel like it too me a while to explain my answers because I wasn't sure exactly what they were asking. 🙁 Oh well, I hope my academic record carries me through.

I've heard many interview horror stories that have turned into acceptances. One first-year that I met in Ohio said that he left his interview almost in tears...he was accepted the next day. Don't count yourself out yet!

JuniorJumper: That place looks nice in the pictures. How is the noise there? I am really concerned about loud neighbors and paper thin walls when studying! Do you know of any complexes that have primarily professional students...i.e. less undergrads?!! Thanks!

Hey,
I'm in the class of 2012 and live with a student in the class of 2013 in a 3 bedroom/3 bathroom condo about 4 miles from the vet school and we'll have one of the bedrooms for rent, available this summer ($400/month plus utilities). There are few undergrads in our complex and we've both been really happy with it. Feel free to message if you're interested or have any other questions about the college, Gainesville, or apartments. Good luck with acceptances everyone!

🙁 sorry you guys don't think your interviews went well. Guess it just depends on your interviewers. Mine pretty much followed the questions I found on the cached link, some of them word for word. I was so glad I spent so much time working on answers for them. Hope my link helped somebody else besides me. BTW, thanks lyndaelyzoo for the heads up on the sea world question. The waiting game continues....

I've definitely learned through this whole process that patience is definitely not my best quality...one more week (about)!

Well, I'm glad some interviewers followed a question set. 🙂 By the way are any of you sending/have sent thank you notes to your interviewers. I hear a lot of the first year students say they did.

I know how you feel!!! I think I'm going insane!!!! Hope we will all be future classmates!!!!

Hi all,

I just joined here, and maybe this is the wrong place to start with, but I wanted to introduce myself to all of you UF hopefuls such as myself.

I live in Jacksonville and have just returned to college after a decade out of it. Honestly, I did not do well the first time. I am 33 years old now, not the same person I was back then and I am very serious about wanting to get into veterinary medicine after having done some work with a cat rescue. I am attending a local community college and trying to make good grades and make amends for the academic sins of my past. So far so good (all A's), but there is a long way to go. I hope to get a transfer to UF to pursue a bachelor's degree in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation (pre-professional specialization), then eventually apply to the College of Veterinary Medicine. I am currently seeking a local vet who will take me on and help me get the experience I will need.

I am pleased to meet you all and look forward to the sage advice of all of those who have been there and done that.

Good luck with everything! I was in a very similar situation- I made a complete mess of my first undergrad experience (failed classes and all!). When I started back I told myself it was straight A's or nothing if I really wanted to prove that I had changed and can do this. My best advice is to be honest on your application- explain things but don't make excuses. Some schools are very forgiving about past mistakes-NCSU has an additional essay you can fill out if your overall GPA is not up to par. I interviewed at Florida (I guess I see how understanding they are in a week... lol) and have one acceptance so it can be done. I really wasn't expecting it either.

I wish you the best! :luck:

Thanks adunastella, I needed to hear that! It is encouraging to know that someone was able to turn things around and get an interview. How close to straight A's did you get? 🙂

I'm a long way from applying to the vet school, but am putting a lot of pressure on myself not to get any B's because it only gets harder and it would not be good to get B's this early on.

Did Dean Vickroy say they'd be sending out emails telling us to look for mail a few days before they mail out the letters or after they mail the letters?

He said he would send the e-mail indicating the letters were sent. So, just a little bit after. And he said that would be the beginning of next week. So nervous!!! :scared:

WOW!! Let the panic attack begin!!!:scared:

Ah I'll be out of town until Tuesday! Why does this always happen to me!??

Wonderful news...thanks mitshu!! I know Dr. Vickroy mentioned we should get an email late this week when letters were mailed and letters received at the latest by April 1...however, the sooner the better! I can't believe this is finally happening. Waited sooooo long for this and we are finally down to the wire! Good luck everyone!!!! :luck:

Probably bad luck to worry about this tooooo much before I even know if I've been accepted or rejected, but I was looking through the student handbook online and saw the exact tuition and fees #: ~23k per SEMESTER. Then I noticed the amount that the government loans out per YEAR: ~40k. Correct me if I'm wrong please, but if I'm right can anyone give me some ideas on how they plan to pay the extra ~6k/year that the loans aren't going to cover(not to mention living expenses). I had an approximation of the total cost, but now that I'm looking at exact figures, I'm somewhat worried.......sorry in advance for being a downer in such an exciting time. Good luck everyone! I hope that we get the email tomorrow and our letters shortly thereafter!

my info said 23 k per year IS, almost double OOS. "subject to change"

Must be a typo in the handbook then. I was hoping that someone would say that =) Thanks!

It's for sure a typo. 40,500 is the max amount of Government Stafford loans. However, a lot of OOS students will need more, in which case there are Grad PLUS loans to cover up to the cost of attendance. Not important in this case but just an fyi 🙂.

no email today 🙁 I guess we have to wait till Monday. But Im thinking POSITIVE 😀

Still could send letters tomm... One can hope

Too much silence here!!! I guess maybe we will hear tomorrow?

Here's hoping to that! The wait is unbearable. :xf:

I'm pretty sure they said the letters will most likely go out monday. Also they mentioned that if we haven't heard by the 2nd to contact them.

Is anyone else in full blown panic mode yet?

Yup. I keep checking my e-mail like 10 times an hour to see if they've even sent the letter..... Good luck to everyone! :xf:

*sigh* More waiting I guess. Seeing how no e-mail was sent today that's probably the case.

I just called and asked about it. They are hoping to get them sent out today or tomorrow.

The wait is killing me. I thought for sure we would know by the 2nd. Now who knows, the letters will prob get to us April 14th.

Don't say that!!!! I did hear a rumor that Dr. Vickroy was out of office and they were waiting on him to sign the letters. You would think they could just use a stamp!

Thanks for calling! This wait is unbearable

No problem everyone. And I'm happy some of you may have your letters in hand by Friday, I live in Boston though, so I'll have to wait till next week. NOT FAIR!🙁

Im hoping since I live literally down the road from the vet school that I hear soon. I also hope that I dont hear 5 days later than my roommate like I did for the interview letter. That was just torture. How can it come on different days when we live in the same apt. The mailman sucks!

Good luck to all of us! :luck: :xf:

Emails are posted ...... now more waiting
