yeah I'm not liking this staggered informing thing. If they were going to send us an email anyway...and it wasn't entirely form-it addressed me not "dear applicant," than they easily could have said "congratulations!..." Or "We regret to inform you..." But, in all honestly, I just feel that way because it is a long way for any letter to get to my house and there are two nonpostal days between the email and whenever I will get the mail. And, I actually prefer a real, physical letter than an email anyway. Hopefully, patience will pay off and it will be worth the wait! It's not on mine or Florida's shoulders anymore-GO USPS!! And good luck in the waiting game, everyone! There's nothing worrying can do for me at this point, anyway...

I really hope I get the invite since UF is my instate. I've been wanting this letter for years, so hopefully Tuesday everything works out.

Good luck to all

I GOT AN INTERVIEW ALSO!!!!!! Sorry after getting 8 No's already in my second year of applying... I'm not gonna lie this was the MOST exciting thing ever!!!!! :woot: :claps: 🤣 :biglove:

BTW I have a masters from UF and a Gainesville address!

Good Luck to everyone else!

Have not received a letter yet so this is all hypothetical but I could use some help in deciding something. I am IS, so if I get an interview it would be on March 6. I went to UF for undergrad, and I have an alumni function for my sorority on March 19-21, the OOS interview date. There is also an animal event March 6 in So. FL that I would like to go to. My problem is this: should I ask to switch dates? 😕 I can't afford to travel to Gainesville twice and of course the interview would come first. I talked to a friend and she seemed to think that even asking would not be a good idea and that it would negatively affect my interview. Thanks for your opinions!

Personally, I wouldn't ask because if you asked to switch dates, they would probably offer you the OOS date which you would be busy with anyway. You've worked really hard to get to this point, I wouldn't mess around with it unless there is a legitimate emergency, which the animal event & your sorority function are not. Good luck!

It can't hurt to call Mrs. Chapparro and explain your situation. I really don't think it would impact you negatively to discuss it with her...they understand the costs involved with interviewing. The worst that can happen is that she can't accommodate you on the OOS date and you keep your date. I asked another school (OOS) to switch my interview date because of my school schedule and they were very understanding and accommodating.

Honestly, I wouldn't ask either in my opinion. I'm missing my cousin's wedding for the interview. I don't want to make myself into a burden for them and hurt my chances.

I'm an IS second time applicant... and now a second time interviewee! I got my invite in the mail on Saturday! 🙂 🙂 🙂 March 6th is the big day...good luck to everyone else who will be interviewing!

(p.s. Would anyone happen know if UF is going to be sticking to the closed file interview system this year? I know that UF has changed their interview system a few times in the past.)

Usually 1/3 of the class at most. I believe the class is around 70.

The last couple of years it has been around 80 IS spots and 8 OOS spots. Does anyone know of/where to find any current issues in Florida that may be asked about during the interview? (e.g. animal welfare Issue 2 in Ohio or Proposition 2 in Califorina)

You never know. I thought my interview would be March 6th and I would be out of luck because I'm traveling out of the country for spring break but I got the March 20th date event though I'm in state and am a current UF student. I wouldn't ask them unless it was something that you had already paid extensive amounts of money for and couldn't get out of.

Yeah, sorry, I was very wrong. It's less than 15% OOS, not 30%. Sorry!

Yeah - I believe it's usually between 6-10 OOS (generally 8 out of a class of 88). I've heard this year they're increasing their class size by 12 (to 100) so I'm not sure how that will affect the number of OOSers accepted.

I'm IS and got a March 20th interview, but I'm suppossed to be out of the country, so I'm calling to try and change it. I don't think calling can hurt!

I heard from an alumni of UF CVM that they are increasing each class size by 5 over the next 4 years, not 12, but either way, it's more spots!

Is anyone else as impatient about receiving the letter as me?? I'm so close to calling and asking if I got the interview invite or not...they probably won't tell me anyway...🙁

My mail man should be here any minute now, and I'm hoping it's in there, although those OOS numbers don't make me very hopeful.

Its a rejection for me. Ah well, I'm incredibly fortunate to have the options that I do. Good luck to the rest of you!

I live in Gainesville and I still haven't gotten my letter. =/

Rejection for me. It hurt a little since its my instate school but I was prepared for it. So now wait for RVC and hopefully in september move to london. Big change :/

I think that could be a really cool big change, but I understand where you are coming from. What do you think caused it? Man, I would think RVC would be even more competitive.

Leave it to UF. Not an alternate, but an alternate to interview. if enough people decline interviews, I might get called, along with about 2 dozen other instates. No ranking given. 😕

I thought RVC was going to be way more competitive. I even applied there for the hell of it. I have my interview this thurday, so now i'm freaking out cuz it's the interview that determines my life. I know my GPA and GRE scores were low for UF. I'm pretty sure its b/c of that I didn't get in. I'm going to email them to see what was wrong with my application, just incase.

Last year, UF had telephone interviews to explain why you were rejected. In my case, it was not enough animal experience (also a first time applicant). I found this to be very helpful. I can't wait to find out what went wrong this time.

I would definitely email UF, definitely. Do you think RVC might be a good choice for those of us with lower-end GPA/GRE? I was not even considering to apply to RVC because of the cost of the flight alone and I figured I could put them in the same category of ivy-league schools. I feel like it would be a cruel game to make out of country applicants interview and not accept them. It happens from time to time, but generally, from what I understand, they interview you because they definitely want to know more and you are desireable. Still, I feel like I would be one of those unlucky few who forks out serious cash to interview there with no good news. I am sure that is rare and that's why I feel like Thursday will go well for you!!!! Do keep us posted. Good luck.

If you don't mind me asking, how much animal experience did you have last year? I was always under the impression that UF looked more at grades and test scores. Maybe I just made up that impression somewhere along the way :scared:.

From what I understand, they expect at least 500 hours, but most people seem to have more? How many do you think is good to have?

I will keep u posted for sure. The interview is actually in new york, so im making a trip out it since i haven't been there for like a good 8 yrs. Thats the good side of it. So lets see.

And i will definitely call UF to see when those interview phone calls will happen

I believe RVC usually interviews U.S. applicants in the U.S. (New York and San Francisco this year) unless something changed?

Edit: And apparently I left this reply box open long enough that chatter07 had already posted a reply. Sorry about that.

Don't remember the amount, but it wasn't much. All volunteer work and my own pets - no true hospital experience at that time. Have been working full time with a vet for a year and continued volunteering w/ wildlife/exotics but I guess its still not enough

I am extremely worried after seeing so many instate rejections, the mail man cant get here fast enough...

Congrats to those who have been invited

I got my letter in the mail today - Interview! Yay! (I'm in the Orlando area)

In answer to a couple questions I've seen posted above:
UF requires a minimum of 400 hours of veterinary experience according to their website and 600 hours of vet experience according to the info brochure you can request. I had 424 hours of vet experience. So either 400 is the correct number, or I was interesting enough they decided not to disqualify me....

UF is *notorious* for rejecting 1st time applicants. Most of the vets I shadowed were rejected the first time. They seem to like applicants who have a year of experience under their belt outside of college. I'm a non-trad but still felt like UF was kind of a dice roll since I didn't know what they were really looking for.

So even if you didn't get an interview this year, don't give up! I know a girl who finally got accepted on her third try.

OMG, OMG, OMG.....I GOT AN INTERVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CANT BELIEVE IT!!!!! Look forward to meeting others who are interviewing on March 6th!!! 😀

for those of you who got an interview, congrats a million times. Very happy for you guys. I just wanted to let you guys know, my parents own an apartment there. I believe its in a good location. Keep me in mind when you receive ur acceptances and we can show u the apartments. If you want more details let me know. I'll cross my fingers so that all of u with interview receive that acceptance letter in april. Good luck!!!!

It's NOT a requirement- I think it's a "suggestion".

Same here, especially since I live right next to the school and the mail isn't here :scared:.

I still haven't received a letter either, and I live right next to the school as well. My roomie got an interview letter on sat so i'm worried. my permanent address in tampa didn't receive a letter either so idk whats going on. I never received a letter last year so im hoping it didn't get lost again. what are the odds ugh. I just hope to get good news, and that lynette calls me back tom :xf:

Anyways I wanted to give the people who received alternate interviews hope. Last year I was rejected, but received a call during spring break so keep hope there is a good chance you'll get a call.

Doesn't look good for me especially since USPS has lost my Missouri letter already. Do you think it would be out of line to go to the vet school office and ask, sometime next week of course.

YAY!!! I got my interview invite today!!! 😍 Anyone else interviewing on March 20th? It's a little odd to me that it's on a Saturday, but it's cool because that's near the end of my Spring Break. I just might decide to spend my whole Spring Break there!

some of my friends told me today that UF had that problem last year and a few people had to go to the vet school to get a letter. So i guess if u don't get one by friday then i'd call and then go in and see. I called today just because my roomie got one and since mine was lost last year.

Hey - my bf and his roommates (2) are looking for an apartment for next year - where is it at?

I just got my letter today (I'm in Stillwater, OK -- random... I know) and I'm interviewing on the 20th! I am most definitely spending my whole spring break in FL. I figure if I'm forking out the money for a plane ticket I better make it memorable. I have family in Tampa, so it should be good to see them. I'm pretty nervous about this whole process b/c I'm a first time applicant and the OOS stats on the UF CVM website are pretty rough. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone interviewing on the 20th!

I emailed Lynette about switching dates, and she was very nice about it, just waiting for space to open up. So if anyone has a conflict on the 6th, I would urge you to ask to switch to the 20th!

Also, are there any other Florida residents interviewing on the 20th? I am at school outside of florida, but since I'm a dependent I should still be a FL res., and this is making me a little concerned about my residency status now...

I'm not applying until 2012, but FL is my in-state. I'd love to see some stats after decisions are received: accepted or rejected. Also, feedback on the interview session/s.

Good luck everyone...

Rejected.

They still had my old address so the way I found out was my old roommate texted me... it said "Univ of Florida said no".

Haha!
