OOS alternate. Congrats to everyone who’s been accepted so far!

SC contract seat alternate. Congrats everyone!!

OOS acceptance! I will be declining my spot because I got accepted IS elsewhere 😀 I was waitlisted for IS last cycle so I'm really excited to be making someone on the alt list's day very soon!!

To all those who were rejected today, keep your heads up. This is my third cycle, so I know first-hand the sting of rejection. If anyone needs someone to talk or vent to I’m here. Just know y’all are all amazing and know that no admissions committee can determine your self worth. Every single one of you is worthy of becoming a veterinarian, so just keep persevering and your time will come.

To everyone who was accepted: Congrats!! We are so excited to welcome you to the UGA CVM! I’m happy to answer any questions about the CVM, student life, materials needed for 1st year, Athens, etc.

To everyone who was rejected: It’s going to be okay, I promise!! Take the time you need to process your emotions. Do a file review; this is a non-judgmental process where the admissions committee essentially tells you how to make your application stronger for next time. Take some time to relax, and then work HARD to make your application better, if you choose to reapply. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

To everyone who was waitlisted: There is no “average” for how quickly and how much the waitlists move. It varies considerably from year to year. Good luck to you all! 🤞🏻

Hey guys! Unfortunately, I will be unable to join the facebook group because I do not have any social media. If there is a group me or anything like that created, I would love to be on it!

I’m not sure if anyone has started a group me yet! If so I would love to be on it too☺️

I would love to be on the group me as well when someone makes one! 🙂

Congrats to all!!! I do have a question for contract seat waitlist-ees... is it a disadvantage to be on the contract seat waitlist, as people may be less likely to give up instate tuition? I know it’s different every year, just looking for some insight.

I think it varies year to year but also depends on which state your contract is with. Like there are better odds to get off SC's contract waitlist cause there's 17 spots as opposed to DE's 2. I was #1 on the DE waitlist last year and it never moved 🙁

IS accepted, late to the party as usual though! If anyone hears about a potential groupme, I'd definitely be interested!

Does anyone know about financial aid for first years? I sent UGA my fafsa but I don’t see any other financial aid application or scholarship opportunities! Can first year students get scholarships?

I'm 99% sure first years don't have any scholarship opportunities directly from the school. The fafsa will give you enough loans up to your cost of attendance, which to be fair is low compared to most schools even for oos. 2nd-4th year you will fill out a scholarship application that will put you in the running for scholarships that you are qualified for. Idk exactly how it works though since I just submitted my first one a few weeks ago.

Yeah for sure if it's all pretty close in cost go wherever you like most! (But I may be biased and think you should definitely come here 😉)

i’m very very torn right now but the uga ambassadors I’ve called and zoomed with so far have made quite a convincing argument hahaha

If you want more convincing, here's what I wrote to someone a couple years ago when asked what makes UGA stand out and why I picked UGA 😁

"UGA was the only school I applied to (wasn't willing to incur OOS debt at other schools), so I can't tell you why I picked it over other schools, but I can tell you why it's great! A big seller for a lot of prospective students is our new teaching hospital (built in 2015). It really is an amazing hospital and way nicer than most human hospitals! 1st and 2nd year classrooms and labs are at the "old" vet school on UGA main campus, while the 3rd year classroom is at the new hospital. That being said, you still have multiple opportunities to spend time at the new teaching hospital as a 1st/2nd year, including clinical experiences for certain elective courses, palpation labs, or even joining a treatment crew.

Another great thing about UGA CVM is the professors. They are truly amazing... every single one. They are super dedicated to you as students, and do everything in their power to ensure everyone succeeds. Just as an example, our head anatomy professor would devote his entire weekend (I'm talking 10am-10pm each day) leading up to anatomy exams reviewing hourly with small groups. One weekend he even ran a MARATHON Saturday morning and still reviewed with us allll weekend long. And to top it off, he cooked the entire class a homemade meal at the end of the semester. I've never encountered more devoted professors than I have at UGA CVM.

A third great thing about the school is the sense of community and family that the vet school provides. The entire school is super close-knit, and you'll build close relationships not only with people in your class, but in all of the other classes as well as with your professors. And this isn't just my perspective; we recently had several people from various other vet schools and organizations visit us for a preliminary visit as part of our accreditation renewal, and they spoke with our dean about how they had never encountered a vet school with such a strong sense of community and comradery. Everyone is truly family and it's a great feeling knowing there are so many people you can rely on. There are tons of vet school intramural teams, big groups of students are always going out together on weekends, etc. etc."

i think the most amazing thing about what you sent in that message is the fact that i have heard it repeated from every single vet student i have spoken with at uga, even oos students who chose uga over other schools. everyone seems to have the same experience- that the professors are amazing, the community is incredible and close knit and you won’t find facilities like the hospital at uga at most other places. i’ll be completely honest that cornell has always been my dream and i think part of me would be heartbroken turning down that offer when it’s been the goal i’ve been working towards for so many years. but when it comes down to what the school has to offer, in terms of cost, atmosphere, community, faculty and program (because i’m a poultry person) then uga is really making this decision hard!!! i am so lucky to choose between such amazing schools haha.

I agree completely! I'm in-state too, but I'm so happy I was able to come here. Our anatomy professor is 10/10 an amazing human and stayed the whole weekend with us for our first large animal anatomy exam (which he doesn't even teach), but he really wanted to help us with anything he could. We couldn't have the group meal at his house this year bc Covid, so he made each of us our own personal take-out. I could talk all day about how great he is, but all of our professors are awesome too! I feel like my class is still really close-knit even with covid restrictions, so I can imagine it will be even better once we can all be together again. I love how we all work together to study for tests (people will share study guides they made), and there's no culture of competition. We all have "bigs" that are second years that are great for questions about vet school life especially when first starting out, and they are great for asking opinions about what to study/ what's going to be on the test. I've spent a little bit of time at the new hospital, and I do agree it is beautiful. Like Canyon said, you can work on small animal, large animal, or wildlife treatment crew and get a ton of experience in the hospital as a first year. Also, they're essentially building a new anatomy lab for next year, so I can imagine that's going to be awesome. And for the poultry folk out there, Athens is home to the Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center which does a ton of research that is used world-wide (it's pretty cool). Also, @Dana_May_B you could always go to Cornell for vet school and do your masters in avian medicine here since you'll get a good vet school foundation anywhere, but UGA has the largest poultry post-grad program that I know of (there's a couple others mostly in the southeast).

Been having some trouble with finding a roommate through the fb group- seems like everyone I talked to has already found someone to room with lol
I was wondering, anyone in this thread still looking for someone to room with? It's just me and my dog, and he's crate trained and house trained whole nine so he's no big trouble.

Does anyone know if they will start pulling people from the waitlist before April 15th or if that’s when they will start ?

Anyone get called off waitlist?

Hello all! This is my first round of applying and I am on the waitlist. How do we find out what position we are, or is that even possible to know yet? Thanks!

OOS was called off the waitlist today! I did not think to ask where I was on the list.

Parker Moore posted this morning in the Facebook group that the class is now full, so for now I think so
