If you are an undergrad and take a grad level course, it counts the same as a normal B (whether in a prerequisite or upper-level course) in your undergrad GPA. If you are a grad student, any classes you take toward a graduate degree are counted separately.
yeah, but what i'm trying to ask is that when adcom looks at transcripts, does a B in gen bio look better/worse/equal than a B in an upper division biochemistry class? aside from the fact that Bs can kill GPAs, is there anything else to it?
If you got lower grades in the prerequisites and then higher grades in upper-level science it would help erase a bad impression of poor effort in the prerequsites. If you get the B in both types of classes, the impression is neutral. If you got a C in both types, they'd think you aren't going to have much potential in med school for getting good grades. So i think a B in Gen Bio is the same as a B in Biochem. Neither is special. Neither is bad.
