Hi...
I just found out Friday that I was accepted at UHS. I am really excited !!!! I interviewed Monday 10/6 and was extremely impressed by the school...Everyone I met (students, faculty, admin, and other interviewees) were really cool. It was nice to see that the students were extremely positive and upbeat about the school. Our student ambassadors were awesome . I think one of the best things about the school is the new curriculum that they have....It really prepares students for the boards.
I highly recommend UHS..Other schools are gonna have a tough time topping UHS.

Did anyone else find out they got in ?

I found out I got accepted on Friday also. I interviewed on 10/2. I was also very impressed with the school! I'm still making up my mind with other schools, UHS is definitely at the top of my list. I just need to get a better feel for Kansas City.

Congratulations to you!

Hi guys!

I also interviewed on 10/2 and found out last Wednesday that I got into UHS! I absolutely LOVED UHS and would NOT hesitate to go there. However, I have a small dilemma. My fiance is out in LA studying for the next 3 years and since he's into investment banking/finance I don't know how much opportunity he would have out in Kansas City. Does anyone know how it is out there? I could go there 2 years and do rotations in Cali but UHS doesn't have any affiliated sites in California. Tough decision...any help would be greatly appreciated!

Luwi,

I am a second year student at UHS. I'm not sure about the banking scene here in KC, but KC is home to one of the largest mutual fund companies in the country, American Century.

There are also other large financial or related companies headquartered here such as H&R Block. I'm sure there are some fairly large banks with a good presence here (UMB being one), but the mega-regional -national banks like Bank of America, although present don't seem to have a large presence. Hope this helps and hope you end up at UHS.

Carpe

p.s. Congrats to all of you now officially in the class of 2008!

Thanks Carpe for the input and advice! I forwarded it to my fiance and I think he will be doing more research on opportunities in KC. I really would love to go to UHS...it seems like the students REALLY enjoy the atmosphere.

Quick question...if I wanted to do my clinical rotations in California would I be able to do so? How stringent are they at UHS about sticking to their rotation sites? Also how would I go about getting rotations in Cali if possible when UHS has no affiliated sites there?

Congratulations on your acceptances! There are currently no rotation sites in California. I think this year a few students tried to get a couple of sites opened up in CA, but it didn't materialize. You might have better luck by the time you are ready to go on rotations, but I wouldn't count on it. You could, however, set up your fourth year electives in California, or any other place of your choosing for that matter.

with regards

I just interviewed at UHS on the 27th, and got my acceptance today (11/1). I was really impressed by the school and the students desire to be there. I am sure having a difficult time deciding which school to attend though. I will be interviewing with DMU on the 14th, and have yet to hear from 2 more. Any reason I should or should not choose UHS??

Totally excited

CONGRATS on your UHS acceptance!
I interviewed with several schools and I think it came down to what school fit me best. You just kind of have to go with your gut feeling. All the schools will boast good board scores, good curriculum, etc. and it all starts "looking" the same as far as numbers, stats are concerned. You want to go where you see yourself being happy. If you are looking for flexibility your 3rd/4th years, you can do your rotations all over the country with UHS. In your 4th year you can pick where you want to do all of your rotations, except for 3 core rotations which must be done at a core UHS site.
Good luck with your upcoming decisions!

I am a third year student at UHS. Also, I am in the MBA in Health Care Leadership Program. You get both degrees in 4 years, albeit challenging, it has proven quite worth it. The class of 2004, just started their residency interviews and you should hear some of the comments that the PD's are telling them. If you are going to UHS, strongly consider the 4-year DO/MBA track. You do not have to want to be an administrative doc or a CEO. The skills will serve you well in any realm of medicine.
