Got the acceptance packet today. It was sent to my parent's place, who live in the western suburbs of Chicago.

So they send it to your permanent address instead of your current ones? God, I hate UIC sometimes...I called and they couldn't even tell me what address they had mailed it to...

Yeah, they have my permanent address listed as well. Good to hear someone got it, though - congrats AlexMorph! Hoping my mother gets the mail soon! :d

Thx zip. I hope all others looking forward to one get one too today. I won't be joining your class though. I got TFA duties to attend to first. So, I guess I'll be the class of 2014.

i just got my acceptance packet!

Capri, I'm in the same boat. Waiting for my parents' mail to be delivered. Ugh!

got the package today too (west side of chicago). very exciting! anyone besides me wondering about the tough UIC course requirements even though you have a letter of acceptance (ie. 2nd semester of psyc)?? or have all of you taken all the courses? i am a serious non-trad student from engineering with grad work, so not exactly your typical pre-med.. any thougths?

i've taken all the req's but I knew about them beforehand. I'm not 100% on this, but I've heard that UIC is a pretty big stickler about having those done before you matriculate, so you might want to investigate taking those online or at night or something.

Edit: Yeah, like Zip says below, psych is not difficult at all, and any upper level psych course counts.

I wouldn't worry about a "second semester of psych" being too difficult. Pick something nice and fun - like Social Psychology! 🙂

NOTHING. You have GOT to be kidding me. 😡 My patience is at an end.

Yeah this has got to be frustrating for you guys. At least the mail comes on Saturdays.

I apologize if this question has been asked already; I am sure it has, but I am a bit nervous.

My status page has finally changed - it says that a decision has been made on "xx" date, and I haven't received an interview invite yet. Can someone please tell me whether this is indicative of a rejection, or if there is the slightest glimmer of light at this long dark tunnel known as the application cycle. I suppose I was not expecting a whole lot, because I am OSS, although it would be amazing to study and live in Chicago, where I did grow up as a child.

Much appreciated, and congrats to those who have been accepted!

Yes, it's a rejection. Sorry.

Can I ask when you were complete?

Thanks for the quick reply. I was complete early August. I have stats that are above their median, and have extensive EC's, which is why I thought I may get one of their few OOS interviews (but still a long shot).

Strangely enough, I'm okay with it. Things always happen for the best, and I think by now the Chicago slots are filled, which is where I wanted to study and practice.

Thanks for answering. The OOS tuiton is brutal so you probably would have chosen another school over UIC anyway (especially since you have great stats & ECs). Good luck!

Thanks, that was a deterrent also. I probably would not have been able to afford the 50K+ tuition. I applied to all other Chicago schools aside from University of Chicago, so hopefully one of these will work out.

And good luck to you!

I have a question about in-state status,

Does UIC have the same criteria to state-residencies as Rush?

The Rush criteria is that either a)you are a resident or b) one of your parents are. (So, theoretically, you can be from NY and claim IL if one of your parents are from IL)

Any ideas? thanks a lot!

The real frustrating factor for me is that I have an osteo acceptance with a $1k deposit due on 12/14. Not much time for me to [hopefully] get UIC's packet, mail back the Chicago preference card, and have them confirm my spot in Chicago. Ugh.

Historically, the chicago spots did not fill up until mid/late January i believe. Also, if you're in the Chicago area you can always go and drop off the form instead of mailing it.

Yep, I'll definitely be doing that. Thanks. 🙂

hrmmm nothing for me today too.. that's weird that some chicago kids got it but not others.

CMOnNNnNn@#$@$#%#%@$%^@$%^

Yeah. It's so frustrating. I don't see why UIC can't just post the decision online like every other school... My house is the trainee post-route, so now I'm all paranoid about them mis-delivering it....

hahah how do you know that? dang you are a true sdn'r. but that does kinda suck..

hey zip.. are you talking about western university by chance?

in the meantime.. can we do a Rockford vs. Peoria subthread? i'll probably do chicago for my first choice and uiuc for second.. but i don't know much between these two.

Pros? Cons?
Any experiences?
Match results?
USMLE scores?
etc? etc??

Nice idea to get a change of pace. Here's the schpiel on the non-Chicago campuses that I learned when interviewing in Rockford at the end of last February (because I was interviewing at one and because it was so late in the year they really gave us an idea of what they were).

Champaign--First off, everybody in the non-Chicago campuses spends their first year here and then 50ish go to Rockford and 50ish go to Peoria for M2,3,4. The remainder in UIUC is pretty small--like 25 people I think. One unique thing about the Champaign program is it's where the MD/PhD students go, so I think that makes up a big contingent. There are still plain MD students there.

Rockford--Small class, small campus. The people I met there were very nice and enthusiastic about the campus. They have some student-house next to campus meant for studying and hanging out that was undergoing some renovations at the time so it was supposedly going to be sweet this year. Classes only run from 8-12 so I think that's the biggest difference--it's more studying on your own than Peoria.

Peoria- I haven't seen the campus or met the people. There's two things I know about this campus. Its classes run like all day from 8-5, and its match results are almost always the highest as far as matching first choice percentage of any campus (including Chicago).

Haha, how am I a true SDN'r?

I know because the mail on our block gets cross-delivered all the time and we have to go return our neighbors mail. We finally got annoyed and asked the maillady and she explained that because our block has the mail boxes right next to the front door (and not on the curb), they give the route to the trainee postal employees 'cause they have to deliver it on foot (as opposed to being able to sit in a warm truck).

yeah, the issue is that i work full-time (50hr/wk!) and it would be really tough for me to find time to take a course. i hope that is not the reason why i won't go to uic and choose another school. why is uic so picky with these courses?! and would they give me a letter of acceptance if that was an issue? in the acceptance package, they only say that you have to prove your bachelor's degree by sending transcripts in and show that any additional course post-amcas app. was a C or better... we'll see.. thanks for the reply though! you'll get your letter tomorrow!! then party!

You know what's nuts? According to a previous post, UIC said the letters were mailed last week, on Nov 30th. The letter in the envelope is dated Dec 4th, and the postmark is Dec 5th.

in my opinion, it really comes down to whether you want to focus on urban or rural health care. peoria and rockford have great programs for M2,3&4 if you're interested in less urban/medicaid/medicare patients. think of what kind of medicine you want to practice and go from there. the chicago campus caters to the poor population of west chicago loop/ south loop. those are the patient's you will see.

I think the poster meant that the decision was made on the 30th (which is what the website displays). I guess they're slow to mail the letters...

i remember from the day of the interview that they said that once the decision was made, they would do their best to send the letters within a couple of days (the dean wanted to sign it himself).

yeah i actually called today, right before i received my letter, and they said the letters didn't get mailed till tuesday! so keep your hopes up because it looks like the "post-interview message" theory phoenix proposed is still valid 😉

Online, buddy. Online. And are you really willing to risk matriculation to your medical school by hoping that it slips by them that you don't have one of their specific requisites fulfilled (which on the secondary application had to be filled in)? I don't think you should take this as lightly as you are if you're at all serious about going to UIC. It isn't a "ahhhhhhhhhh let him in anyyyywayyyy!!" type thing.

This is kind of BS. You're not doing your residencies at these med schools--it's to teach you medicine for the very first time. Yes, Chicago has the UMed program and Peoria has the RMed program. But really, unless you definitely want to do RMed, nobody's picking anything but Chicago for their first choice. At the same time, there's 125 people that don't end up at the Chicago campus. I'm sure plenty of them are interested in practicing in urban type areas, and I'm sure their clinical experience is sufficient to get a residency in an interest like that as well.

Congrats to all who got acceptances!!! And for those still waiting, keep the faith! I think we can finally put to rest any worries that a post-interview status change doesn't mean an acceptance. Once again though, congrats everybody!!!

Completely not true. As someone who is in the UPR track the people that are interested in rural medicine are in the RMED program (15 people). The majority are from the Chicago area and don't have much interest in rural medicine as a group.

Hey, I was mostly reiterating what one or two people said who applied last year, but I'll take credit! 🙂

About a week after I received my acceptance letter from UIC I got an email saying that I was missing a behavioral science pre-req. It looked like a form letter sent to everyone who was missing it. So it seems that they do let you know if you haven't satisfied it. I had filled in three classes on my secondary that I thought should satisfy the behavioral science pre-reqs, and argued my case over the phone as to why they should be sufficient. The woman I spoke to in the admin office (forget her name) said she'd double-check and would email me back to let me know. I then got an email saying that I had satisfied the pre-reqs.

I think you'd probably get the Chicago campus outright, but since in years past it seems to have filled up sometime in December, it's not a certainty. However, I think that you would definitely get the Chicago campus eventually. I'm sure there will be a ton of Chicago campus waitlist movement as people who were given acceptances early on who selected the Chicago campus decline their acceptances to go elsewhere. And you'd be right at the top of that Chicago campus waitlist. But I still wouldn't bet your CCOM acceptance on it if you would absolutely prefer CCOM over a non-Chicago campus UIC acceptance. I guess what I would do is to plan on driving over the CCOM deposit on 12/14, so at least it would give a few days more leeway. I'd also call UIC on Monday if it doesn't arrive in the mail that day, and further attempt to plead your case with respect to the CCOM deposit. Maybe they'd make an exception and let you pick the letter up? No idea, but it's worth asking in this case. Good luck!

I got my packet yesterday as well (north side of chicago) and sent the response back today. Does anyone know how quick they are at letting people know if they were able to get into the Chicago site? Do they send an email, or more slow snail mail. Thanks.

They snail it, but they send it right after they get it. I got mine 4 days after I sent my request to them. I don't know about now though, Chicago mail seems to be really slow because of the holidays I guess.

thanks for the info! that's good to know.

Does anyone know when their next meeting is?

I got mine too! 😀 Feels SO good! Thanks, all, for the encouragement! Looking forward to seeing everyone in Chicago next August!

Chaz, they say they meet around the third Thursday of each month. Good luck!
