After coming across another thread in regards to the next application cycle... I wanted to open up a thread for those of you who will be applying to Maryland for Fall 2011 admission.

If you have previously applied or will be for the first time, let's get some discussion started on this... I for one am a non-traditional applicant having been waitlisted at UMD for the past couple years. I spoke with Dr. Meehan and she recommended an M.S. which is what I am presently working on. I should be finished by next December and have my fingers crossed for Fall 2011 - I don't think I can afford, both financially and mentally, a 7th application cycle (yes, I said 7th).

Also, for those of you who have any recommendations or suggestions about this school, feel free to add to the discussion...

If Dr. Meehan told you to finish the M.S. degree, then that is absolutely what I would do. I know of several applicants/reapplicants who have followed her recommendations on how to improve their applications and have been accepted in subsequent cycles. I don't know if she said anything else because your DAT seems to be ok, but definitely speak with her if you have any other questions about how to proceed for the next cycle. And of course, apply early. Best of luck!

Thanks - yes, I am definitely following her advice! It just took me a year or two to be able to finance the masters, but I am more than half way through it and should have it wrapped up by December. She wanted me to somehow finish it by this summer so I would be good to go for Fall 2010, but unfortunately due to class availability at my school I will have to take 2 remaining courses next fall. I too would recommend applicants calling the school to find out what they need to do to become a stronger applicant - and not just MD, but any school.

Are you in dental school?

No, I am not a dental student yet but I will be starting at Maryland starting this Fall.

I will be applying to in the summer as well. BEST of LUCK to you. two ppl from my highschool are there and did very well on their boards and from what i have heard its a really good school.
