Starting to stress a little over UMass acceptance(or lack of...). I interviewed 11/8, and I'm curious roughly what kind of timeline I'm looking at to hear back from them. Only one person has posted as accepted(foofish) and he/she found out one month later. Maybe that means this posting is a little premature, but I'm getting anxious.

Has anyone tried calling UMass to ask for a timeline? Is this a bad thing to do? Does anyone know the answer to my question?

Thanks.

I talked to the students when I interviewed, most of them were accepted late, one of them last second may or june.

They told me "most applicants find out their status by april".
I interviewed begining of october, no word yet.

This process takes forever, give it time.

This is probably not helpful, but last year I interviewed in the beginning of October and got my acceptance right before Thanksgiving. So it took about a month and a half. I remember them saying we could hear anytime between a couple of weeks and April. UMass is kind of stingy on the early acceptances because they are required by the state to only have 100 accepted people at a time, so they can't overaccept like other schools.

Yup, I'm also playing the waiting game with UMASS. Interview was 3+ weeks ago, and no word yet. Lets keep our fingers crossed for quick and happy news!!!

I interviewed on 10/24 and as of today, i haven't heard a peep from UMass. As other people have said, i think they tend to really take their time, which is a huge bummer for all of us sitting on the edge of our seats looking for a positive note from ANY school. I'm not really worried yet, so take a deep breath and try to relax.

Any other news/tidbits/advice/complaints or otherwise joyous announcements to make from fellow UMass applicants?? (Just keeping this post up front...)🙂

Does anyone know if they let you know if you are officially on a waitlist?

Interviewed in late September, and absolutely nothing yet. It's kinda what I expected though. Most people I talked to said that they reeeeallly take their time. This doesn't add anything to the previous posts, but I guess just confirming the general perception.
G'luck everyone

I'm pretty sure you don't find out you're officially on the waitlist until April.

Hi fellow UMass applicants - I interviewed in September and received an acceptance roughly 2 months afterward via snail mail! Hope the info re: "the wait" helps...Good luck to everyone!
:luck:

You should post on acceptances...there's only one UMASS acceptance so far...foofish. Also, are you going to go to UMass? The only accept exactly 100. Were you early decision, by chance?

I'm in the same boat... interviewed 11/1 and still nothing. UMASS is my #1 school... I'm really hoping to get in!

Is it true UMass gives preferance to UMass Amherst students? I remember hearing this somewhere. What do you guys think?

Preference, no, but there are always a few UMass Amherst students during interviews.

Yes, I will be attending and no, I was not early decision. I didn't post it because I was afraid of messing up the quotes - I'll ask for help 😀

:luck:

Good job BallerinaDoc. I noticed your official acceptance as of this morning. Now could UMASS get on the ball and let the rest of us SDNers in soon!! I hate waiting, but it's part of the game, I guess. Regarding interviews, I had no UMass Amherst grads there. Strangely, many fellow interviewees were from great schools, a few Harvards, UPenn, Brown, Darthmouth. Slightly intimidating, to be honest, but also interesting. Anyways, best of luck, people! Keep the updates coming.

Hey everyone! I had my interview on 11/14. Any more of you out there? Any acceptances yet? I'm starting to get a little nervous, too, D-Bone. I suppose there was a holiday in November that could have slowed things down for those of us still anxiously awaiting acceptance/waiting list/rejection. I wouldn't recommend calling UMass for a timeline. I'm sure they can't stand getting those calls, and they probably will tell you the same thing they said on the interview date (anywhere from a couple of weeks to May). Best of luck to all. If anyone gets accepted, please keep us informed.

I'm an M1 at UMass, I interviewed in Late March and heard back in like May.

my labmate interviewed in october and heard back in April.

Basically UMass can take a while, try not to stress too much if you don't hear anything.

Also, the waitlist comes out, if I remember, after the last acceptance goes out.

good Luck!🙂

I know that every applicant from UMass Amherst is given an interview without exception. I figured that would mean something- *shrugs*

Are you sure about this? I never heard that before and I'm from UMASS.

Well, my first-class 8x11 envelope showed up at my door yesterday afternoon with the acceptance letter.... so the UMass adcomm is still alive and functioning... which is nice to know. I interviewed 11/15 and heard 12/9, so decent turn-around actually which surprised me. I'm also a third time applicant, so I guess third time is the charm, right?!?!

Good luck to the rest of the anxious UMass hopefully folks still waiting to hear!!!!!

Wow, so should I just figure UMass isn't getting back to me?(My secondary was done in July and I haven't heard a thing besides I'm complete.) Oh well, guess that preference to UMass students doesn't apply to post-baccs from UMass Boston.

Thanks Mizilan! From the little I understand - if you get in during the first go-around, you should be hearing very soon (like.... tomorrow or Tuesday!!!!) Good luck!!!! 🙂 Otherwise, I guess its waiting till March or something.... UMass's acceptance process really is a bit strange..... Let me know when you hear! Would love to say 'hi' to other UMass class of 2011-ers! 🙂

heyya...last year i applied later because i took the mcat in august...interviewed in january and then waitlisted in late march i think..also, one of the interviewers told me that unless you're an AMAZING applicant you probably wont hear anything until march or april because they dont over accept...good luck everyone!

Congrats RuthP. Downside here is your great news is just going to stress the rest of us out more. Thanks! Just kidding. I guess the lesson here is we can find out now...or next year sometime. Ugh! RuthP, do you mind me asking what kind of numbers you have?

you were right. i heard today.

D-Bone - So true... one person's excitement is someone else's stress. Sorry....🙁

(I'm uber-new to SDN so bear with me if my number-presentation style isn't the normal format... )

Undergrad at MIT. GPA 3.4. Math and Science GPA 3.0
(Applied in 2004 and 2005 with no luck before going back for my masters...)
Masters of Medical Science at BU. GPA 3.72
MCAT 32Q

I think thats all the important data, right....?

Best of luck! Hang in there!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

🙂 Just saw your post on the acceptance thread! 🙂

thanks! you too! so, umass and dartmouth for you too...hard decisions coming up.

Man, I am so jealous of you guys who've already been accepted!!
Congrats & Good luck!! :luck:

RUthP, how's your luck at BU? I'm a former GMSer who interviewed and got waitlisted last year. This year...flatout rejected. Who wants BU when UMass is on the horizon anywho?! Anyways, thanks for responding. I'm running home to check the mail.

Hiya.... interviewed at BU last week and now waiting till the January 10th date for an acceptance/rejection/deferal. We'll see how it turns out. What was your GPA in the program? It seems like they use your GPA in their program as a big assessment factor in determining who to interview/accept. The past two times I applied I ended up with NADDA acceptances, so the concept of possibly having two acceptances this year is just... bizarre. Let us know when you hear from UMass!

Uh oh, are you from that 😱 ooooother 😱 cambridge school? <shudder>

Just kidding! 🙂

I'm also waiting... interviewed at the beginning of December. Does anyone know if they let you know anything other than acceptances and waitlists? As in, is it possible for me to receive a little white envelope from UMass? :scared:

SO like...what if I am submitting my secondary NOW to UMass...bad?

I'm pretty sure that the only possible envelope right now would be a large acceptance one. Flat out rejections and waitlists probably won't go out until spring after they have filled the 100 slots. If you interviewed this month, I wouldn't expect to hear anything until some time in January. I interviewed in November and still haven't heard anything while others on this thread who interviewed in November have received acceptances. I'm pretty sure that i'll be getting a small envelope now. I've been crying for 24 hours straight...

Just submit your secondary and you should be fine. My secondary was finalized at the end of November and I got an interview offer the day after.

Awww... I can sympathize. Maybe we'll be okay. Just keep your head up. And hopefully we'll get in somewhere!

bump bump bump

I had the craziest UMass secondary submission episode:

So I was aware that the deadline was 12/15. With finals and all I figured I was going to submit by then- no problem. Too bad I find out that 12/15 is not the postmark date....its the date that they want all the **** in their office!

So on 12/15, after my achem final I drive to Worc within 30 minutes (they told me it had to be on their desk by 4 pm) from Amherst. I run around the campus trying to figure out where the office is...i jump over hospital beds and wheel chairs....and at 3:58 pm I spill into the office with my damn check. Somehow I made it...I was so out of breathe, and so exhausted, I didn't know what to do...I just waved the check in their face and said...TAKE IT...*passes out*.

It was so messed...I SO better get in after all that.

How'd admissions staff react to you?

How'd admissions staff react to you?

The lady laughed at me. Asked "you must really want to go here huh?" to which I couldn't answer as I took deep breathes and laid on the ground.

I got an interview invite today...literally two business days after submitted my application...I don't know if that is a good sign!
