UMass Acceptances?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Any new news for 2007? Still no word for me, and my online status indicates that a decision regarding my acceptance has not yet been made. I hate this!!

Hey, just figured I'd contribute my information (joined SDN today, don't hate):

I interviewed at UMass late September, got my acceptance early November via snail mail. Also, I thought I did terribly in one of my interviews -- so don't take a "bad" interview as any indication (unless you spat on them or something).

I also personally know 2 others who got in (may or may not be on SDN?) - interviewed in oct/nov, accepted early December. Not sure how this information helps anyone, but you all seem to want it! Good luck!

Has anybody gotten an acceptance from UMass since early December (that's the last time there were acceptances on SDN, anyway!)!
😕

I interviewed on 11.15 and got accepted on 12.10. I'd been checking the online Acceptance page like a madman, since I think that gets updated the day the letter goes out.

Good luck everyone!

bumping ....

..... and bummed (no word yet!) 🙁

Pretty frustrating. My assumption is if we haven't heard by now, it'll be waitlist come April as a best outcome.

Does pressing the "I accept the invitation" button allows you to make the deposit online?

Yup. It should take you to the deposit page (or at least to a page that will take you to the deposit page 🙂). Congrats, and good luck to everyone else!!

Congrats cstar23!! Well done ....when you did find out and how?

Sorry for the questions, but I'm sure you understand how crazy it is to be waiting! 😳

thanks, i just wanted to make sure it wasn't a binding acceptance or anything. I got a letter in the mail yesterday. I thought i had blown my interview in November and written this school off as an eventual rejection, so keep your spirits up!

.... my interview in November...

when did you interview - early, middle or late November? I'm just trying to figure out if UMass is accepting people in order of their interviews or are they jumping around and picking people randomly! This is such a crapshoot!

Thanks!😉

when did you interview

It was the second week of November. They said to expect a two month wait, and it was almost exactly that. Good luck!

I interviewed on 11/8...probably same day as cstar, and I have not heard yet. Going nuts right now!! Crap shoooooooot!!

I'd say just try to concentrate on your other schools now, and hopefully UMMS will surprise you with good news. What else can ya do??!! 😕

Other schools? This is the only school that interviewed me...

From everything I've heard, too, the majority of the class comes from acceptances in May.

Unrelated, does can anyone tell me why my signature won't come up on my posts? I've got the right box checked...

"... so far!" 😀

Try sending I love you, please interview me letters to your other schools to take your mind off UMass or something!!

bump. Any new word from UMass over the last few days??

Hey um if people that have been accepted could post some of their basic stats (college attended, gpa/science gpa, mcat, other relevant info) that would be great! It would be nice to have some (very) rough indication of what it takes

yo caramba

this is straight from umass's website :
http://www.umassmed.edu/som/admissions/faqs.aspx

What do you consider acceptable standards for MCAT's and GPA's?

Over a number of years, our entering students average MCAT score has been 10.5 (which is above the national average of 9) and average GPA's have been 3.6. We have no "automatic cut-offs". The Admissions Committee reviews all completed applications in their entirety and MCAT and GPA scores are only two of many factors considered by the Admissions Committee.

For myself, I am in the ballpark. still waiting to hear from umass, so i guess one could say my voice doesn't technically count..

Anyone hear anything recently or know when the adcom is meeting next?

you could also check out mdapps for umass. it indicates the applicants who were interviewed, accepted, waitlisted, and declined. it provides a bunch of stats.

seriously...there's gotta be more than just 3 people on SDN that have been accepted. anyone? anyone? rejections?

i love waiting...it's like a fun game that exploits the OCD in everyone

I interviewed jan 23rd and still no sign. I know it's gonna be a loooooooooong wait. I am hoping for something within the next month.

Interviewed in November...nothing, nada, zilch, zip...what other words could apply to our situation?? I'm hoping UMass really is just taking their time before inviting all of us come March or April. Otherwise, just let me know already so I can move on. What sucks even more is I'm now planning on taking the MCAT again on May 25th. I'd like to know if I'm studying for something or nothing. Hard to do with uncertainties, but I'd rather be safe than sorry if I don't get in.

Good luck everyone...may patience be with all of you!

i gave up my spot for one of you brave souls. good luck.

Thanks man! 😉 where are you planning to go?

Right now, it's between Dartmouth and NYU. Harvard, Yale, and Mt. Sinai are in the mix if they EVER get back to me. 😛. NYU has always been my first choice, but the "alternatives" are favorable. UMass is a great school and it'll be sorely missed, but staying in MA any longer doesn't sit well with me. Ideally, I'd go to Nova so I could go surfing but eh...it poses too much of a distraction.

Nova is an osteopathic school, no? Do you prefer the DO concept over allopathic? It is interesting...

I'll send you a message since this is a UMass thread.

Oh darn - I wanted to 'hear' your answer, too!! LOL!!
Have fun wherever you land up, FutureLegend05!!
(And thanks for not holding onto your seat 'til May!!)

I'm interviewing in March at UMass...is that probably for the waitlist?

Wow! Interview in March...late. I've said it before, I can't imagine a school interviewing specifically for waitlist candidates. Simply doesn't make much sense to me, but that's my opinion. If you're a great candidate, I'm sure they'll let you in...if only good, maybe you'll get a spot on the waitlist. Who knows. Best of luck though!

UMass takes approximately 50-75% of their class from the waitlist. So, a waitlist isn't such a bad thing at UMass.

Thanks for the encouraging news! UMass is my only interview (completed criminally late and I completely deserve it), so I'm really hoping it will come through. Having grown up in Worcester I'm not really psyched about the location, but being three years out of school, I'd rather not have to apply again.

Thanks!!!

That was great of you to relinquish your spot @ UMass .... it is so frustrating playing the waiting game.

Best of luck wherever you end up!

Didn't want to get into it, but UMass only gives straight acceptances to the first 100 students accepted. The 101st favorable applicant is waitlisted. UMass gets the majority of its students from those waitlisted, 50-75% as indicated in the above text. It doesn't mean that they are less than stellar though. Much luck to you.

Thanks!!!

Not a problem at all. Though UMass is a solid school, I think I'm meant for something else. Much luck to you.

I knew about this, but didn't realize there was SO much movement off the waitlist. Not that I should even think about the waitlist--I haven't even interviewed yet!

And also, thanks for giving up your spot...

i was just going to bump this.. but had to comment. there are like 3000 views and only 92 posts. are you all in the same boat (waiting to hear about a umass decision.. or interview)? just curious.

Waiting for decision. Expecting something by March/April...ugh...

Just thought I'd give some encouragement in this thread. I'm a third year here at UMass, and I know the acceptance mailings are anxiety-inducing to say the least. For myself, I interviewed in early December and got my letter at the beginning of March-- a three month wait. Many members of my class had even longer turnaround times than that (November to June is the longest one I can think of offhand).

Also, I wanted to dispel the rumor I saw earlier in the thread about all UMass Amherst students getting interviews. Having gone to that school, I know for a FACT that not everyone from there gets interviews at UMass med. However, there IS a very high representation from the school in every class (I think there are 10 in mine), partly due to the sheer numbers of applicants, and also I suspect that many Mass residents at "elite" colleges go on to "elite" medical schools rather than UMass.

If any of this year's applicants have questions or concerns, feel free to PM me. I didn't do as much advising or essay editing as in previous years, but I still like to help the people in the applicant crop that are smart enough to use SDN as a resource.

4:13am...must be studying. Anywho, thanks UMassRower for your insight. It's nice to see current students who will take the time to give out advice to the tortured and mangled applicants waiting on the front steps of your school. This whole process sucks, but I'm glad I know I shouldn't be stressing out about UMass just yet. Oh, I've already started studying for the damn MCAT again, so that's the only thing I'm bumbed about - as far as the waiting game goes. Maybe the next few months of studying will just be one big exercise in futility!!! SO EXCITING!!

4:13am...must be studying.

Not a chance. I was working on a paper that, in my usual fashion, I left to the very last minute. I wouldn't be caught dead pulling an all-nighter studying, and DEFINITELY not during third year. Anyway, I get even more friendly than normal when I'm procrastinating. Glad I could offer some helpful words.

Speaking of procrastination, I think SDN is the beginning of my downfall. I can't get anything done!
