My impression...based on earlier postings...is they initially accept sporadically(exceptional candidates) and then send out a bunch of acceptances/waitlists closer to March/April. This is my hope!

I was checking the mail/status page at an unhealthy rate about a month after my interview, but quickly returned to a healthy and steady rate of about once/day. I've been losing it again as of late...5-10 times/day! Will they just let us know either way?!? I'm going nutty!

Just thought I'd give some encouragement in this thread. I'm a third year here at UMass, and I know the acceptance mailings are anxiety-inducing to say the least. For myself, I interviewed in early December and got my letter at the beginning of March-- a three month wait. Many members of my class had even longer turnaround times than that (November to June is the longest one I can think of offhand).

Also, I wanted to dispel the rumor I saw earlier in the thread about all UMass Amherst students getting interviews. Having gone to that school, I know for a FACT that not everyone from there gets interviews at UMass med. However, there IS a very high representation from the school in every class (I think there are 10 in mine), partly due to the sheer numbers of applicants, and also I suspect that many Mass residents at "elite" colleges go on to "elite" medical schools rather than UMass.

If any of this year's applicants have questions or concerns, feel free to PM me. I didn't do as much advising or essay editing as in previous years, but I still like to help the people in the applicant crop that are smart enough to use SDN as a resource.

Based on the last 2 years of UMass posts, if your online status is going to change, it will be on a Friday (probably morning). Try just checking weekly, (that's what I've been doing, not that it has helped....) and spare yourself the excess worrying, guys!! 😀

She basically said we could hear anytime from now until the middle of the summer. Yea...super helpful, I know. I mean basically it's the 'no more than 100 acceptances at a time' thing, but it seems like they will send out some more acceptances in April. Either way, they didn't really give us a concrete date. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful!

Ugh!! So I went just went to the status page and got a different message than normal after entering my user and password. I **** myself, but then realized the program was just telling me my password was about to expire and I needed to change it. Like I said, ugh!! Funny thing is, now I reading a little too much into WHY my password was about to expire!! What are these people doing to me!! One more thing, this new guy/gal who just interviewed on Wednesday...Did you really have to tell us this waiting could go on til mid summer?? You ruined my day yesterday! JK. Hopefully we'll get something soon. I'm freaking out.

Well, I hope you're right MChitty. I haven't been too stressed lately, but maybe its because I'm a non-trad so I only know a handful of premeds trying to get into school. I realized recently that they have all accepted spots somewhere, and that made me cringe a little. Anyway stay strong fellow applicants. Hope that there's news soon.

I'm just trying to gauge at what point in the month I should increase the obsessive checking of the status page and mailbox to an unhealthy level.

At least we'll have some march madness to distract for a little...

So my take from previous posts thus far is as follows - bulk acceptance/rejection/waitlist goes out anywhere between March/April to possibly mid summer(according to a recent interviewee). UMass supposedly updates its status pages on Friday mornings. Regarding the once a month thing, I have no idea, but that wouldn't surprise me.

As far as obsessively checking the status page and SDN posts, I can't get any worse.

Yeah....I don't know how frequently the committee meets, but I do remember they said that it meets on Thursdays...which would fit the Friday status page update. Good luck everyone!!

When I called about a month ago...I was told that they do not have a "regular" meeting time or day. The way I took that was that they could meet once one month then meet like three times another month etc. I interviewed on 11/7 and have heard nothing from them. They told me I should hear 6-8weeks after or by February. When February past, I called and they said I could heard through April. It's getting to be a bit frustrating now.

from what i've heard...UMass can only have 100 spots filled based on funding from the state...so right now there are probably 100 kids holding spots...just keep hanging in there...I interviewed the first week of October and have yet to hear

this is all heresay...but from what ive heard...UMass doesnt form an official waitlist (again because of the 100 rule imposed by state funding). they obviously have one internally, but dont make it public. Thats why you might get a call from them in late may offering you a spot. dont hold me to this...but its what ive heard

I interviewed today (3/21) and the admissions woman told us that they are getting very close to 100 but the class is not yet full...so up until now everyone still is in the game...I got the same info that they could let us know anywhere from a couple weeks from now until mid May..hopefully this helps!

I'm not sure if the waitlist is official or unofficial, but from what I've heard from current students there, you can receive a call pretty late--like June or July to be part of the class. My friend who's an first year there was also saying that a lot of her class had been accepted in that manner.

So if you don't hear soon, I wouldn't be too discouraged...they're only allowed to accept 100 at a time, so after May 15, there's a TON of movement.

Thanks for the congrats everyone (and also, congrats to damoucci)! I'm almost certainly choosing UMass, although I am still waiting to hear back from a couple more schools (but unless I get lot of scholarship aid to one of those schools, I doubt I'd go there over UMass). I was the one in our interview group who was the Worcester native, and I interviewed with Drs. Ciocca and Baker. Hope that all of you hear good news soon and that I see you in the class of 2011!

Mine probably came on a Friday, although I can't say for certain - I had checked earlier in the week and there was no status change, then the next time I checked was a Sunday (because I had gone away for the weekend and couldn't check on Friday) and it said I was accepted.
