UMass Acceptances?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am dying too. To make matters worse I was just accepted to a medical school in Ireland which might sound cool at first except that a $9000 deposit is due at the end of next week. UMass is my first choice by far. So, now I don't know what to do...accept the other spot and lose $9000 if I get into UMass or gamble, decline that spot and maybe not get into UMass and be left with nothing. $9000 is all my life savings plus some that I'd have to borrow from my parents. UMass is killing me.

umass is killing me too. i didn't even apply. hell im not even eligible to apply. but from what i gather they're slow as f'ing hell. University of Massachusetts at Tortoise School of Medicine is what it should be called.

I heard that the Slowskis from the Comcast commercials are on the adcom.

Hahahaha....oh well played Cueball.

Anyone get a waitlist letter? I'm clinging to that prospect with all the hope I have left.

so in my boredom this evening (in an attempt to avoid studying for the MCAT) I perused last years UMass thread and gathered the following:

Apparently they are pretty consistent, so here is the timeline we might be looking at.

Snail mail WAITLIST letters: received sporadically from 4/14-5/4

Snail mail REJECTIONS: most received 5/3, but some as late as 5/8

ACCEPTANCES off the waitlist: many phone calls and emails received 5/17 (a wednesday) through 5/22 (monday)

All Spots FULL: apaprently someone received a letter on 6/30 saying that all spots were full, detailing some things to improve in his app., and encouraging him to reapply

Updating Waitlist?: someone received a letter on 7/4 saying the waitlist was being updated? and asking if the person was still interested (not sure what this means)

So looks like waitlist letters should start trickling in soon. Be on the look out!
Good luck to us all!

Think of it like this - it will be the best $9,000 you lose in your life should you land up paying it & getting in to UMass later! Unless you won't be kicking yourself later for possibly missing out on going anywhere this year, just pay it. Hang in there.

😆

(I just love that little laughy guy!!)

Good luck everyone! :luck:

But this doesn't include people who might just be getting an acceptance letter and no waitlist offer....is there any way to know about that? Because I've been told that if you aren't hearing waitlist offers or rejections...then you might just be on hold to get an acceptance once someone drops their offer

I suppose this is possible. But I'm going on the assumption that the 100 spots are filled by now and that even those people that are next in line for a spot will be waitlisted as well. but i could be wrong...

anyone heard anything recently? this thread was far back!

"Have you heard from UMass yet?"

No!! I'll let you know what I hear. PLEASE GET OFF MY BACK. Thank you, friends and family, for caring. I appreciate your love and support. But it kills me to be reminded multiple times a day that, yes, I'm STILL waiting to hear back.

Ugh. Thought some of you could relate...

Right there with you, my friend. Except for me, it's "Has your wife heard yet?" from my boss once a day.

Yes, family/friends/co-workers - get off our backs before we get violent. If you have not yet heard FROM US, the chances are we have not yet heard anything. If we continue to appear stressed or unhappy, it's because we have not yet heard anything. If we look angry or are short tempered...take a guess...we have not heard anything. Lastly, if we are still working our miserable jobs and have not handed in our notices...any guesses?....

hahaha.. its nice to know that many more people feel my pain... I have already handed in my notice for work though.. so i've quit my job, im buying a house, and i have no idea where life is taking me... gotta love living on the edge 🙂 And now i'm off to Costa Rica so I hope nothing important happens until May 5th when I get back!

My boss asks me EVERY DAY! At one point, I was like, how about I tell you when I hear something!

I mean seriously, thank god you reminded me about it, because I had forgotten that I had applied to medical school! Really though, I need to tone down the rage because it's not so good for the complexion...

 😆
You guys are crackin' me up! But it is all soooo true!
Trying to stay calm while waiting to hear is hard enough, but having to train family, friends, and co-workers to handle the waiting is just enough to send a person right over the edge!!

Should the Ad Comm, according to SDN, be meeting Thursday the 26th, or were they supposed to have met last week?

Ok guys...a little bit of light for you all at the end of this horrible tunnel

I was told that all decisions should be made either by this Friday or no later then next Wednesday

hope that helps!

What's your source on this tidbit of helpful info?

both a worker in the admissions office when i called.....as well as a family friend who is close to an adcom member (she asked for me...can you tell i'm anxious?)

anyone have a change when you login to check your status online?

i thought this was supposed to be the big day! anyone?

I'm not sure how they could let us know this soon since the initial list of accepted students don't have to decide to attend UMass until 5/15, correct?

Ugh...frustrating. Didn't someone post a few weeks ago that the 100 seats have already been filled, and the rest of us will not hear anything until after May 15th...which makes sense, in my opinion.

Thebee....how RELIABLE is your source? You're still covered, by the way, as you said we could find out by next Wednesday. However, like I said, I thought we were looking at a full class as of now and simply waiting for the May 15th date to pass.

Anyways, good luck everyone. I'm with you all with the current stress levels. Studying to take the MCAT again next month in not fun.

Hi! Like everyone else, UMass is my number one and the wait is driving me crazy 😱 . I've never posted before but I have been following the thread pretty closely for a while now. Which is why I'm so surprised that there's no waitlist announcements yet! It seems that in previous years waitlist notifications have already gone out? Maybe the people who are currently on the waitlist just haven't posted or don't know about SDN?

I would assume that if a waitlist had gone out, they would have let the rest of us off the hook and sent rejections too.

Hey everyone...I am also obsessively checking my status online every day...I was waitlisted last year and I definitely got the letter by this time...I think it was around late march but I also interviewed earlier last year than I did this year...good luck to everyone still waiting!!

just to confirm that - being OCD, i called the admissions office to see what they'd tell me (without giving my name or anything) and the woman i talked to said "today or by wednesday. so you should hear in the next couple weeks or so. or something." thanks, dr. specific.
back to obsessively checking my status page! but it's nice to know everyone else is doing the same.

I truly think this is worse than some addictions that are actually illegal. Maybe all of us should get together and do something fun to get our minds off of this. Who's east of Rt. 495 and wants to chill out tonight?

actually according to last years thread, waitlist letters were received any time between april 14th and may 5th. while rejection letters didn't arrive until after may 5th. so it seems like rejection letters come out after waitlist letters, which is driving me crazy.

I also called today and she told me that I should expect to receive a letter in the mail by the middle of may. back to waiting...

They seem to be a bit behind this year...and a bit vague. I know they're trying to keep us informed but I wish they would just give us a straight answer. Even if it was like we're mailing out waitlists around such and such date and then we're mailing out rejections 4 days after that. Instead of...oh you should hear today, Friday, or maybe next Wednesday..or maybe in two weeks/middle of May...

This waiting is gnawing at my soul.

I just got waitlisted via snailmail. The waiting continues. ARRRRRRRGH.

I interviewed in November and I live in the Boston 'burbs. And the letter was dated 4/25, if that's helpful.

Has your online status changed or does it still say a decision has yet to be made?

Nope, hasn't changed, still has the "decision has not been determined" bit.

received snailmail waitlist today. there still is hope!! online status has not changed.

may 15th is around the corner...good luck folks

anyone who interviewed after january hear anything?

hey for all of you getting waitlist letters... are they being sent to your permanent address or to your preferred address?

anyone here interview in november and get off the waitlist?
no change online, no letters home...

Hi, my wife also received the wait list letter dated 4/25/07, postmarked on 4/27/07. Yahoo! She interviewed on 11/8. Good luck to everyone else.

Darn mailroom not being open on Saturdays.... I'm all anxious now!

One of my friends just got accepted on saturday (yesterday). So it seems to be correct that UMASS is still actively accepting, waitlisting, and rejecting.
