Haha! I like that theory! My last name starts with P, so that works for me! Maybe we'll be getting our waitlist email soon...

Hmm, that theory might have some truth to it. The first letter of my last name, as well as the last name of a friend of mine that was also waitlisted today, are both in the first half of the alphabet. Perhaps JKA and MsJLewis can weigh in on this?

Maybe they are wait listing by alphabetical order? I interviewed mid September and haven't heard a peep. last name W

well that would explain a lot! However, cant be true... My friend whose last name starts with Z got waitlisted yesterday, while I still havent heard anything (we both interviewed back in October). The wait continues....
:bullcrap:

My last name starts with an A.

For all you people that have started making posts, you may want to add your name to the list. At least I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Received the waitlist e-mail as well - my last name starts with J.

I can't make any sense of this... I interviewed 12/5 and have not heard anything. Last name starts with "B" so no help there...😕

Does anyone know where to find any stats about the percentage of waitlisted applicants who are eventually accepted? And/or how many applicants are actually accepted off the waitlist? I know it's been discussed on this forum, but I'd really like to see some actual data on the subject (like at medschoolready.com, e.g.). Thanks!

The current students at the interview claimed that 40-50% of the class came off the waitlist. However, that information doesn't help you for two reasons: first, you'll never know how many students got off the waitlist, but eventually did not matriculate, so the 40-50 only tells you the minimum possible. Second, our acceptance is entirley reliant on others dropping out, which could vary considerably from year to year. All we can do is wait...

Is there anyone who interviewed on 3/26 and was waitlisted? or hear anything?

hey guys/gals, back from the second look day (this is the first year they've done it). A lot of family members/friends came along too, and they ended up asking the vast majority of the questions - something I didn't expect. Anyway, there were a few speeches by the administration, tour, student video/Q&A panel with students from various ends of the spectrum (e.g. a first year that went straight through after college and someone who graduated college in 1992 and has a master's degree who wanted to change her career), student activities fair, etc. They're gradually changing the curriculum so that you get in the clinic earlier (e.g. second year will end in april) and make things more integrated, but not sure on the timeline of when that would go into effect.

It was hard to tell with all the family around, but I'd say at least 50 accepted students were there. I also know that there were a bunch that didn't go either. In terms of admissions, the only thing they said was that UMass accepts less than 2 students for every 1 spot in the class, so all of the acceptances they give out (regular and to people on the waitlist) must be less than 200. I think a bunch of people there were planning on attending, but a bunch were still deciding, so I'm sure they'll be waitlist movement.

Good luck everyone, and I hope to see you in the fall.

Thanks tporter for taking the time to tell us about your weekend even though you are already set. I love how umass moves the clinic time up as soon as possible.

Believe me, I hope I will see you in the fall as well.

Are there still people waiting to hear from UMass??????

Any thoughts on why some people got the waitlist email and others are still waiting?????????

Yea, I'm still waiting... I'm assuming it's because we are rejected and not waitlisted. But I'm hoping I'm wrong.

I'm still waiting... haven't heard a peep!!! 😱

I'm hoping it's because our names are at the top of the list and UMass can't accept any more people until they have some withdraw... so they aren't waitlisting us b/c they know we'll get in very soon.....

I hope....

I've been telling myself the same thing. Yesterday I sent an email/letter to Karen Lawton to update my file (I just got promoted so I thought I would tell them). She wrote back saying congrats and that she'd inform the admissions committee of my update..

Now, obviously she wouldn't say "thanks for telling me, but you've already been cut.." but I liked the positive feeling I got from the email.

Then again, I could be delusional. 😉

Who knows what they are thinking, you could be right on. Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall in the admissions office?!

Is Karen Lawton the MBA who works closely with Dean Paraskos?

have you been updating UMass regularly or just once in a while? My fiance was told specifically at his interview not to send updates (they told the interviewees not to send thank-you notes... which we thought was a bit extreme)

I've wondered ever since if he should be sending updates or not....

Hi goosie -

Brenda told us that if we wanted to send thank you notes, to direct them to her and then she would make sure they got to the appropriate person. I also asked her about updates, and she said this was fine but to please not contact interviewers directly since they are very busy. Someone (I can't remember who) also said that because of their limited resources, the office doesn't have time to be in continuous contact with the applicants about their status. But I think an update once in a while is fine; just don't necessarily expect a response.

Brenda told my group the same thing about thank you notes that jka just described above.

I'm planning on sending a little update during the first week of May, and I'll send it to Brenda. Do you all think if I send via email, that it would be good enough?

I just really hope that there is at least one more batch of waitlists coming...

Yup! She's Director of Admissions.

I would cc admissions but send the e-mail directly to Paraskos and Karen L. That's just me!

what are john paraskos and karen lawton's email addresses? i searched the website last night, and couldn't find them... but anyways, this morning i sent a letter expressing my interest to [email protected], and just addressed it to the adcom. hmm....

i do think waitlists are still going out for another week or two, but mass rejections are going to start soon (no pun intended).

I don't necessarily think that is the greatest idea. If their emails aren't listed on the website, they prob don't want people sending emails directly to them.

Plus, if the website says to send everything to the [email protected], and you "sneakily" find another address and send it, it kinda seems like you aren't following directions.

Just my personal opinion. But I am not saying ngc76 did anything wrong either! I am sure if he/she has their email address, it was given to them by someone and the situation is different.

I know that every time I have sent something to the [email protected] address, Brenda quickly replies and lets me know that it will be put into my file.

You could be right. Go with your gut.

If you want to contact them directly just google them along with umass med, and you'll get their contact info, at least this is the case for Paraskos.

But if the catalogue says explicitly to only send stuff to the general address, then maybe this is best.

I had done that. Emailed Paraskos but that was before I applied to the school. Umass was giving me alot of crap owing to my non trad status and so I found his email and wrote to him directly and I got a reply from Karen Lawton immediately. However I did not do it after my interview because I thought that would be a bit too much. I did send in thank you notes to my interviewers and to Lwton,Paraskos and Brenda for accomodating my unusual application and for the opportunity to interview. I have however not heard after my interview and don't expect much (3/26). I have one acceptance and I am going to stick it out to see what happens with UMass. I got a lot of **** for my low MCAT and not enough shadowing from one interviewer so I don't think I will make the cut. Oh well! we will have to wait and see.

I got an acceptance from UMass today (4/29) via email. I don't usually post on this board, and I won't give out my background or stats for the sake of preserving my anonymity, but I will say that I interviewed at UMass many months ago, early in the admissions cycle. So don't lose hope, they are still admitting people. 😀

I don't understand the point of a waitlist if they're going to do that. The class, at least as I was told last friday, is completely full. The whole idea of a waitlist is to have a pool of people to tap into should a spot become available. If they didn't accept you for over 6 months, why not put you on the waitlist last week to at least make sure you send them a letter of intent before accepting you? Bah, just when I thought Umass was predictable...

By the way, CONGARTS!!! will you be attending this fall?

The admissions process does seem a little odd, but I'm in no position to complain. I'll probably end up going to UMass, because I really like the school and I haven't been accepted (so far) at any of the other schools I interviewed at. I'm going to bed now, but I wish the best of luck to everyone who's still waiting for a decision.👍

I also got an acceptance today (4/29) via email. My interview was in the beginning of January so obviously they are still sending out acceptances. I will be attending UMASS in the fall.

Good luck to everyone else.

haha... my fiance and I as well...

but hey- they are still sending out acceptances and that's the important thing, right?

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE AND STAY OPTIMISTIC!

Yeah, I'm pretty surprised myself. The best I was hoping for was a spot on the wait list.

Hey Merrimack! Congrats on your acceptance! I know you didn't want to give too much away (don't blame you), but did you have above average stats, average, below average?

I also got an acceptance today (4/29) via email. My interview was in the beginning of January so obviously they are still sending out acceptances. I will be attending UMASS in the fall.

Congrats to you both!

thanks, they stated in my email that I had until may 15th to submit a deposit so you guys still have a couple of weeks for acceptances probably.

What does the amount of time you have to submit your deposit have to do with the time available for acceptances exactly?

because they probably will still send out some acceptances up until may 15th. obviously i'm just guessing here but it's better than believing that they are down with the acceptances.

you guys (and gals) think tomorrow is the last day for any kind of positive decision before rejections start streaming in? it seems like last year, rejections started being given out the first week of may...:scared:....anyone care to share an opposing opinion?

called the admissions office this morning and was informed by Karen Lawton that the "class is not full", and they would get back to me within this week, I interviewed on 3/26, the last interview day, so I guess by next friday they should have all the decisions made

Since today is a Thursday, I'm assuming "by this week" means next week?

Thanks for calling- I'm sure that was a bit stressful!

Out of the three people that I know who interviewed the same week as you, one has been accepted, one waitlisted and one hasn't heard. At the very least, it means the committee has had a chance to review all interviewees. It baffles me that the class isn't full and that letters of waitlists and rejections didn't go out en mass today??

today's actually friday...and yeah by this week i meant a week from today...so of those people who interviewed in the last week, any on 3/26? not that a day or two makes much of a difference, just curious

WOW- can ya tell I'm stressed?

Don't worry about it- thursdays suck anyway. It's not hump day and there's no TGIT. There's a reason they have to be thirsty just to get through them 😛

Now I am even more confused! To answer terrier hoya's question, I interveiwed on 3.19 and am waitlisted.

The most logical conclusion I can come to is that they did a preliminary waitlist (last Friday) to see the response to it. Assuming some spots on the waitlist will also open up, they will do a second batch of waitlists. There is also a select group of people that haven't heard anything because they are at the very top of the list to be accepted, and admissions assumed they wouldn't need to be waitlisted since spots are slowly opening up every day. And then there are the rejections.

Either way, it is STILL A FRIDAY. So far it seems oddly quiet out there. Please post any news when you get it.

Thanks and good luck.
