UMDNJ Discussion thread 2007-2008

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just a quick shout out...best wishes to those that are being voted on tomorrow by the adcom! May you hear some good news! 🙂

Man, you have no idea how long these 3+ weeks have been. The thing is, we probably wont hear until Monday since they are still interviewing tomorrow. This is going to be one longgg weekend :scared:.

Well, don't be too sure. The only way that those interviewees will be discussed tomorrow is if their interviewers turn in their evaluations prior to the adcom meeting. IMHO, I believe this is improbable, thus they will be pushed into the meeting in April. Soooo....you may be hearing something good tomorrow after all...🙂

I called and they said that the admissions committe met already, however they have interviews today. So I asked will they be making phone calls today and the woman did not know it is at the descretion of the committe.

on another note, any news about the match list?

got the call at 5:30 on friday. was in the "top 10" on the wait list.

😕 Did anyone here anything else, in reference to acceptances/watilist etc from the Adcom meeting on the 28th. I called on Monday and left a message and know one has returned my call yet. Do you know if they are just sending out letters?

They returned my call just this morning. I didn't ask if they were still calling, rather I asked what the committee decision was for me. I was told I was wait-listed. But I have a very high composite score and am in the top 10% and more likely than not, I will be accepted very soon.

I think they are just really busy and try calling the office again today, Paula is in the office.

I'm hoping that I'll have a spot to give to someone. I've been waiting months to hear from Drexel, my top choice, and have had to reluctantly hold a spot at UMDNJ SOM. I'll definitely let you know if or when anything happens.

What is the deposit amount? I found out I was accepted over the phone and am waiting for my packet to come in the mail, but holding out on one other school.. Hoping I won't be down a huge chunk of change if I decide to attend.

Does anyone know what % of the alternate list were accepted from last year or what the composite score is that candidates need to be accepted?

Looks like the adcom is starting to accept people from the alternate list.

They can lower their min cutoff for acceptance any time, so trying to figure out what composite score needed won't help. I think it's best to call the office to see if you are in the top 10% or if your composite score is fairly high. I think from a search of last years alt list, they got to someone who was #30 on the list (but that was at the end of July). Hope that helps.

I think I remember it being $185 but I could be wrong on that.

For last year (the 1st years now) they called someone off the wait list the second day of orientation. The guy dropped everything and was there the next day.. pretty crazy but awesome!

The official waitlist/alternative list thread for UMDNJ-SOM for the class of 2012.

Ill start...

Countthestars-Alternative listed (by phone call) April 3nd.

Good luck :luck: to the rest on the waitlist I hope we hear back soon!

For those that got into UMNDJ this year can you please share your stats? Thanks! I will be applying next year.

average: 3.5, 29. probably means that it will higher next year

My husband got in with a 28 MCAT and I think around a 3.2-3.3 overall GPA and maybe around a 3.5 or so science.

3.9 GPA and 27Q MCAT
best of luck to everyone

Hi, guys!
Congrats for those accepted! :luck:

I applied to the school back in September 2007.
They sent me no responce yet since I got a letter that I was "complete." I do not care, because I got to a school I wanted more, but this is just not nice: after all my efforts in applying don't I deserve a lousy reject letter?

I'm just wondering if anyone else got no response as well? 😕😕

Has anyone done anything to improve their chances of getting off the waitlist? or u just wait?

For those that were waitlisted, can you post your stats/EC/ MCAT, thanks!

I am looking for a place to live within walking distance from UMDNJ-SOM, (for my first two years!).

Can any UMDNJ-som students tell me what would be a good place to live (walking distance) near umdnj-som, and the rent I can expect. (On the interview day, we were told that many live nearby...about 5 min. walking distance--where exactly?). I am not sure if I want a roommate...depends on the size of the room, or the number of rooms available. Is it hard to find housing nearby? How does one go about finding housing?--I have no experience...

Also, how far are the supermarkets/grocery stores from such housing...is it tough to get there without a car?

Thank you in advance!

PM me your e-mail address and I will have someone get in touch with you.

Me too....Me too....I'd like some info on housing, too!

Por favor 😍

Thanks in advance :hardy:

I'm looking for a place near the campus as well but it doesn't have to be walking distance...I'm looking for an apt (single bedroom) that's cheap ($500-$800) located in a safe and quiet area...can anyone help? =)

What's up with the wait list? Anyone here knows?

I've been calling the AdOff, but noone's answering...What's the deal?

Luckily I have had better luck calling them. I am on the waitlist too. I think it all depends on what your number is on the waitlist. UMDNJ is one of those schools that actually give you all that info. If you are higher on the list, you have a better chance of getting in. I know for a fact there are like 152 or 155 ppl on the list. I think more movement will happen after the 15th of may. But trying calling again to see where you are on the list.

152? 155? That's a rather large number!!!! 😱

AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! 😕

I'm scared 👎

Thanks for the info, Countthestars! :luck:

hi,

i'm sure most of you are referring to matriculation for sept 2008 but i'm interested in applying for 2009 and i don't know if my stats reach what umdnj som is looking for..

i took the mcats three times, with my highest score only being a 23, but my gpa is 3.73 with a 3.56 in science..my ec's are not too amazing but i'm planning on shadowing a do and doing more volunteer work this summer before i even start my primary..does anyone know if i stand a chance at even getting a secondary app?

thanks a lot.

Would anyone mind passing on the information they found out so that we all could see and one person doesn't get bombarded with PMs? Thanks!

your admin packet has all the housing information with closeby rentals. check it out.

FYI: you dont have to live walking distance to school. the subway is down the street (2 blocks away), so you can practically live at many more spots along the subway line. Nice areas like, haddonfield and collingswood

Why the 15th of may? Why is that day so special?

May 15th because that is the day when people who are holding multiple acceptances from MD schools have to choose ONE school to go to. That means there is a lot of wait listmovement that happens in the MD schools on the 15th. Since there are some ppl that applied to both MD and DO schools, they could very well be waitlisted at MD schools. This means there is a possibility of those getting off \ the waitlist of an MD school and drop out of the DO school. That is why the 15th is so important.

I have recently become interested in DO, mainly due to the additional avenue (that muscle manipulation thing) available to DOs to treat patients. As of now I would like to specialize in neurology and possible conduct research as well in med school. I was wondering if UMDNJ-SOM would give me opportunities to do this.

I knew about the May 15th for the MDs, I just didn't really think it would impact the DO schools that much -- but what you said makes absolute sense. I thought UMDNJSOM had some May 15th deadline of its own.

Good luck to everyone on the waitlist!

BUMPYDDYYY BUMP BUMP BUMP!!!!

Any word?😕

Is this anyone's first choice? 😱

Its my first choice. Last I called, they said they had some ppl withdraw (unsure to the exact number), but the committee hasn't meet yet so they haven't made any decisions as to who to take off the waitlist. I really hope they meet this Friday.

oh, Ana, did you call to see where you were on their wailtist?

Hi Countthestars!

I called the office last Tuesday. I'm still on the waitlist and was told that I'm in the top 30 (TOP 30...I don't know if I should be happy or scared to death...Makes me wonder, how long is the waitlist, really? I asked for the total # of people on the waitlist, but I got a very vague answer)...

At this point, I'm really sad/depressed/discouraged/ready to give up on the guy known as "God"...I've prayed, I've fasted, meditated. etc. What gives?

I don't want to be anywhere else, but UMDNJ. 🙁

Congrats on being in the top 30! Don't worry, they don't go straight down the list one by one. They can pick and choose who they want to accept off the waitlist. That means #15 can be selected before #2 if #15 can offer UMDNJ-SOM what the other person that withdrew offered them. For example, if the person that dropped out was a 25 year old female living in Cali and had a GPA of 3.5 and MCAT of 30, then admin committee would be looking for someone on the waitlist that is as similar to the one that dropped out. That means your number on the waitlist isn't as important. What's more important is what you can bring to the school. From what I understand, they use the number system cause they look at those higher up first but if the ones higher up aren't similar to the person that dropped out, then they will go further down the waitlist until the find an approach substitute. I hope that calms you down just a bit.
