Just wanted to start up a thread to discuss any thoughts/ impressions of UNC for those that have had interviews there.

Mine was last Friday (1/12). I thought the student Q & A session was pretty informative for all those important questions that we of course can't ask our interviewers. As far as my interview goes; I'm a little torn on that one. I thought it was going well, but when they ended it, I was taken by surprise b/c I thought it was cut a little short. I could just be panicking cuz it's my top choice, but did anyone else feel that way? I guess I was in there about 15-20 minutes but it felt like less. 🙁

There's a few of us that have interviews Wednesday, and I will post after it's over. I'm pretty nervous about it, but excited to get to drive to Chapel Hill and to experience the interview.

I'm scared. I need a hug real bad right now. haha

MuraRX, I feel pretty much the same about my interview. I had my interview in december and didn't feel so good about it afterwards. Compared to my Campbell interview they seemed not as friendly. I had two ladies as interviewers. I think im more comfortable with men are conducting the interview. Oh well, I will just have to wait and see. Good luck to everybody. And heres a big hug to you CarrollR.🙂

I feel exactly the same way! The interview time was scheduled for 20 minutes...but they only asked me about 4-5 questions and then let me go early! It is my #1 choice also so I am worried...

I had my interview on Friday too!! My interview lasted maybe 20-30 minutes, but that was because I had about 6-7 questions to answer. I'm not sure how well I did. On the one hand, I felt like I babbled my way through the interview. I even asked the interviewer to repeat a question twice. Eeek. On the other hand, my interviewers were really nice. They wanted to know where I lived, weather or not I was staying in NC before flying back home, and talked about a couple of people at the school who are marathon runners because I told them I ran the LA marathon. So who knows....I'm trying to be optimistic, but that's always easier said than done....anyway, good luck to everyone who haven't had their interviews yet...

CarrollR, here's a great big hug for you 🙂

Bes686, I think we met that day...did you have Dr. Raasch as your interviewer? Also, I was wondering, did you stay for the tour afterwards? PM me if you want.

Good luck to everyone who still have yet to go to their interview!:luck:

I'm driving round trip nine hundred miles for this interview! I better answer those questions well is all I've got to say. 😳

Come on now CarrollR, we're in the same group, so it's going to be fun. I'm a little bit crazy, but in a good way.

I'm sure all of you that have had interviews did just fine. Have no fear 🙂

Thanks for the hugs and the encouragement...I'm just ready for it to be over, you know? I did a very scary thing and only applied to UNC (I really have 0 desire to go anywhere else..i just feel like it's the place for me, you know?) - but we'll all be fabulous.

It's pretty funny, i actually have a friend from high school that's in our session, too. How many people are in each session? Does anyone know?

But yes, it will be fun. I'm crazy too 😀

No one's in 12-2? Poor acetyl, I guess you'll never find out who I am 🙂

The hotel I'm staying at kicks me out at 11 am, so I think I'm going to eat NY style pizza and then lurk around the college. I've got to pay 6 bucks for parking, so I imagine I'll get my monies worth. I bet I can guess who you are, you'll probably have a nice golden tan from that California sun.

That sounds like a plan. Yeah, most chapel hillians are pale. Actually, no. I'm kidding..but I am. If I was any paler, I'd probably be translucent. haha.

I think I'm going to be done with class at 11. Then I'm going to spend some time showering/getting ready/relaxing/trying not to spaz (I'm definitely not going to physics at 12 til 1 when our interview is at 2..I don't think so!). Aaaaaaaaaand then I'm going to catch a bus b/c I don't want to mess up my shoes (or my clothes, for that matter). And it will be great. I'm getting excited.. haha.

Get out in the sun a little CarrollR, geez, a little sun is good for you. Unless you don't want wrinkles.

I've taken both physics so I can bring you up to speed (you like that play on words?) on what you may have missed if you would like. I'm going to try to stay clean but god help me I've been one of those people who just can't seem to stay clean. Maybe eating pizza is probably a bad idea for me while wearing a suit.

I hope people at UNC dress more professionally than what I saw at Wisconsin :/

Good luck to everyone who has an interview tomorrow!

thank you!!

haha evilolive - well, think of it this way..if everyone dresses a little bit less professionally than you, that makes you look good. I'm wearing a skirt suit, so...yeah. Although, I know a friend who isn't going to wear a suit..I don't remember quite what she was going to wear.

Hello everyone!
I have my interview tomorrow, and I just wanted to wish everyone the best of luck! I know I'm super nervous, but everyone keeps telling me the same thing and I just wanted to pass it on because it's been a huge encouragement for me - Just BE YOURSELF. Sounds cliche, but they aren't looking for the perfect answer or the perfect candidate. They know you aren't perfect. And they know you don't know everything yet - that's why you are applying to the pharmacy school - to learn. Someone reminded me that they already think you're a great candidate - that's why they invited you to interview.
I was wondering, to those of you who have interview already - I know the scheduled time for the interview is 2 hours. Are you talking to people for the whole 2 hours? What exactly is the format for the time spent there, and how long do you physically spend in "interview"?
So don't get discouraged, everyone.. and I'm looking forward to *hopefully* being in the UNC Pschool class of 2011 with all of you! Best of luck!
And by the way ... not all "Chapelhillians" are pale... 🙂

Haha. TarHeelBaby24, I was kidding, i just know that I'm pale. 🙂 What can I say? It's the Norwegian in me.

Glad to see more people on here that have interviews tomorrow. When's yours? Yeah, I was curious about the time allotment stuff too..and how many people are in each session. I'm interviewing from 2-4:30 tomorrow. We're gonna be greaaaat!

I have interview tomorrow at 2 PM also. I would like to wish you all the best of luck. I will be coming from Greensboro. Carrol, I also applied only to Chapel Hill school. Can not and do not want to go anywhere else. I was not born in US but consider North Carolina home and want to stay here. I am excited, happy, but also nervous. I got myself a nice pant suit too. Let us all post our experiences tomorrow after interview.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who did that, tashka. 🙂

I'll definitely post after the interview. Well..I have class after the interview, but after that. 🙂

Yeah, I'll definitely post after the interview and I can't wait to hear how it went for everyone! Mine is at noon, so I will probably see you all on the way out! GOOD LUCK to you both, and everyone else interviewing tomorrow!
Oh and btw - I only applied to Chapel Hill too. That's where my heart is, and I don't want to settle for anything else. I don't think it's a bad situation to be in at all.
I can't wait to hear how it went for everyone tomorrow!! Get some sleep!!

Sorry if this is a little late for those of you who have your interview today...

At my interview (I was in the 2-4:30 group) we were each given folders with our transcript evaluations, some other forms we'll need if accepted, and a schedule for the afternoon which included the time you had been allotted for your interview. Then we went into a classroom where 5 students had a Q & A session with us, which was very informative. My interview was from 3:30 to 4 although I don't think the interview lasted more than 20 minutes. After that, they offered a tour, which I didn't stay for cuz I had a long drive ahead of me.

Good Luck today! :luck:

I sent my UNC application at the end of oct., havent heard anything from them yet. when did you guys send the application? should i call them to check up on the status?😕

hi there pekingduck, I sent my application in on August 1st. I'm not sure exactly how they're offering interviews... as for calling them, I suppose that couldn't hurt.

As far as talking about my interview today...I think it went alright..as well as it could've gone. I stumbled around a little at the beginning, due to being nervous. I just freaked myself out, but I recovered alright I think. At least one of the interviewers seemed to like some of my answers. My interview was scheduled from 3:00 til 3:20 and it took me the entire 20 minutes (and a little over). But yeah. It was a good experience, and nothing to get too worked up over. They make it a pretty nice time. 🙂

I was the one of the last to be interviewed from my session today..it was from 4:00 to 4:39 p.m. When I came out, everybody was gone. 😀

Peking, unfortunately today was the very last interview session 🙁

But to the people who had the 2:00 interview session at around 1:45 waiting at the front of the signin hall, did you see a large group of other 12:00 session people walk by? I was in that group 🙂

Hey everyone! Hope your interviews went well!! Mine felt like a good conversation - I don't feel like I said anything particularly memorable, but I really enjoyed talking with the professors, and the students who showed us around were amazingly nice. I think I was in the interview from like 1:50 to 2:20ish, so I hope that's a good sign. I'm really hoping for some good news in four weeks!! Everyone keep us posted on your acceptances!
Peking, today was not the last session, so don't worry. I know they have a session on the 31st of this month (although I'm pretty sure they've contacted all the candidates about that date) - and i believe they interview through february (but don't quote me on that) off the wait list, etc. So don't get psyched out just yet.

really? The office lady lied to me then 🙁

Congrats everyone on a job well done! Now the waiting game begins. TarHeelBaby, are you sure they will get back to us in 4 weeks? One of the students told me when she got accepted, she didn't hear for almost 2 months!

I don't know about you guys, but that interview process was pretty cool. It wasn't a drill the typical type questions to the applicant like I was expecting and was in my previous interview. They were really laid back and made it more of like a conversation, which makes me wonder what type of qualities or traits they were looking for, or even how they scored the interview. Anyone know?

Well, as far as the time before they give us a decision, in the packet of information we received at the interview, it said they would contact us within 4 to 6 weeks. I know some people in classes ahead of us found out within 2 to 3 weeks.
The interview did seem pretty laid back - not like an interrogation, but more of a conversation which was great (and will hopefully be reassuring to those of you who still have interviews to go!) acetyl, check your private messages.
And as far as what they are looking for.. I'm pretty sure they aren't looking for one trait in particular. Obviously, that you can carry on a competant conversation and would be comfortable counseling a patient and relating to others. But they aren't necessarily looking for one particular trait so much as a well rounded class. So if you're shy, don't worry about trying to come off as outgoing. Don't be painfully introverted, but don't pretend to be something you're not..
well that's it for my two cents.. hah

Pekingduck, I sent my application on the last day before the deadline-Oct 30, and I had my interview yeaterday. They review all applications at the same time, after the deadline and make their decision. I would not recommend calling them-the e-mail that they sent acknowledging that the application is complete asks not to call them and not to inquire about the status. I am sure, if you received this e-mail, they are aware of you. I wish you good luck and hope that everuthing works out.
My interview was very nice, it felt more like conversation than like interview. Interviewers were very pleasant and genuinely interested. I got strong impression that they liked me. My interview was scheduled for 20 minutes, and we talked 30 minutes instead. There was a lot to discuss, and conversation was always going. I hope, I presented myself in a good light, though I was nervous and stressed at first.
Carrol, I kept looking for you, but I did not recognize you. There were several girls in skirts. Everybody was dressed so formally! I am glad I bought that pant suit. It is always better to overdress, I think. Students were very nice too and very helpful. And now the waiting, and it is so hard to wait.

Carrol was sitting next to me, to the left of me, and we were sitting in the front row, on the left side of the room (from a PY2 perspective). I'm from KY, have blue eyes, and short brownish hair. I'm also short in height, and talk a lot.

The UNC interview made me fall in love with the school. I'm starting to re-evaluate whether or not UCSF and Michigan are my top choices anymore, because they really captured my heart in that two hour session...

Acetyl, I was sitting at the right side. I am tall blond, a little older than typical student. I think, I was right across you guys.

yes,i got their email that says they have received my application. i guess i should just wait then.

thanks

ohhh. hmm..tashka, did you go on the tour with me? I went on a tour with a male applicant and another female applicant (maybe you?). Do you have an accent?

Yes, that was me! It sounds weird, but I remember the guy (Asian looking), but your face is a total blur. I do have accent. I was born and raised in Russia.

Ohh good times! So we technically did meet. Kind of. Very cool! 🙂

I remember what you look like, too. You were sitting in the front row across the way from the girl sitting next to CarrollR. You're kind of tall as well? I remember your accent when you asked a question.

I really hope, we all will get accepted and meet again. I did my hepatitis B shot today. Just in case. Acetyl, where do you live? I remember, you said that you have to drive a long way to UNC interview. And how was your trip-driving and all?

I'm in Lexington, KY. Roundtrip it was 995.7 miles. I was pretty tired last night coming home and ready to get outa the car. I'm glad that I'm within walking distance to UK and I don't really have to drive anywhere for a few days.

Acetyl, did you like Michigan or UNC more? I've come to realize that I really don't know that much about michigan, but when I go visit, they have a high bar to pass in order to impress what we saw that day! (Assuming I get into UNC of course)

I wish I would of had my interview the same day as you all. I had mine back in december and I didn't know anybody. I hope we all get in. Good luck!

I'm in the same boat as you. However, I have spoken with a few people currently in the program, one from KY, who both say that it's awesome. I'm sure it is, but like you, I don't really feel like I know that much about it. I'm going to visit Ann Arbor sometime this semester and sit in on classes and talk with Dean Perry regardless of my decision of where I attend. I was tickled to death to get accepted at UM and would like to tell Dean Perry personally if I decide not to attend. Who knows, maybe visiting the campus will sway your opinion just like being in Chapel Hill.

I think the programs are probably about the same, and cost about the same from an out-of-state perspective, the decision probably really lies on where you want to live. I think NC is beautiful and I have family there, so it would be sweet to get to live there. Plus, Chapel Hill is a sweet campus and seems to have just about everything a nerdy pharmacy student would need.

I'm going to try not to think about it too much more until a decision is made.

Do you by chance have their emails (should they be willing of course)? I would love to get some insight!

I'll get back to you tomorrow.

Ok, so who is going to break down and send an email to student services about when the date for admissions is to be set. You know they will make a date when they start to send out admissions letters, and one of the papers they gave us in the interview said to contact them whenever we had questions...so, who's going to break down and do it?

Ahh I want to know...but I'm not sure if I'll break down and do it..on the pharmcas website it says they send out the first acceptance letters mid-January..but those are probably for the people interviewed in mid-late December. I'd probably think we'd hear by early-mid february.. but if you wanna email someone, by all means, go for it. 😛

When I said the pharmcas website, i meant this one: http://www.pharmcas.org/collegesschools/schoolUNCpage.htm

Student services don't answer e-mails: I tried before with different question. So, I'll just wait and see.
